Not sure where to ask this but I'll try here :)

How much sleep do you guys get on average per night (or day KF lol)? I know I don't get enough as I'm a borderline insomniac but I was curious as to how much your lack of sleep affects your recovery times. Does it matter if its all at once or broken up? Can you sleep too much?

I've done a little reading on REM sleep and the like but would like to hear from your guys actually experiences.

I am sometimes not able to sleep at all, all night long. I just lay in bed and just don't get over that "step" of actual sleep. I just lay there with my eyes closed but I still voluntarily think about stuff etc... and it's so tiring and annoying and really depressing.
Current PR status:

All time squat: 165 kg/Old age squat: 130 kg
All time deadlift: 184 kg/Old age deadlift: 140 kg
All time bench: 85 kg/Old age bench: 70kgx5reps
All time hip thrust (same as old age hip thrust): 160kgx5reps

Yep. I used to do that and over the years I've been able to learn how to force myself to sleep but I still average 4 hours of sleep per day. A good day will see me sleep 6ish hours.

I get like 8-9 hours of sleep a night. I take a 30-90 minute nap a couple of times a week.

somewhere between 6.5 and 7.5 per night. 6.5 is not enough but if i get 7 or more i'm golden. right now i'm having a rare insomniac night where it's 2 something in the morning and i'm not tired. that wouldn't be weird if i were out but i'm not; i just watched some tv with my gf and now she's sound asleep and i'm wide awake.

I get about 3 to 4 hours a sleep before it used to be 1-2 hours sleep then i would wake up at 3 am, awake till about 1 hour, then i feel a bit more tired so i try to get atleast 7-10hrs of sleep so the majority of the sleeping is done after i wake up at in the middle of the night. so probably then sleep like from 4 to 11am.

Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up

If I get less than 8.5hrs sleep I'm a zombie the next day. Don't think I've got less than 8hrs unbroken sleep in a night for at least a couple of years. I'm lucky that I can just go to sleep quick and sleep heavy. I don't nap regularly but if I'm particularly sore I nap when I get home from work and it helps a lot. Wear compression tights if you nap, helps even more (can't tolerate them overnight though).

Thanks for the replies guys. I got 7 hours last night (which is probably the most in months) by forcing myself to bed earlier. I dont feel any different yet but I'm betting I wont notice the extra sleep until later today or even until a few straight days of more sleep. I'll continue to try and get 7ish amd see how it goes.

I've got 26 years of it to overcome lol! But I strongly feel like this is an important piece of the puzzle I'm missing. I didn't notice it much before the last 6 weeks but I hadn't lifted like I have been. The last two weeks I've just felt something missing and this may be it. Worth a shot if anything!

Sleep is an interesting factor for me but I just never get enough of it. 2 young children means I have rarely had an unbroken nights sleep in the last 4 years. I average 6 or so hours a night but I could remedy this by going to sleep earlier. I'm usually getting to bed at 11-11.30 whereas I could be there at least an hour earlier if I really wanted to.

I actually plan on watching a 18 hour course on sleep in the very near future so stay tuned.

Interesting read Coges! Ive read about the first/second sleep before seems like our kids do it very naturally lol!

Sadly I fall into the 'insomniac, stop thinking' category. I have gotten 6 hours each of the last two nights so thats a positive.  :)

Haha. Don't they.

I've never really struggled with that so can't really offer any advice. Maybe meditation if you haven't tried it.

Yea, I've had severe ADHD since I was very young (I'm always that annoyingly bouncy kid lol) and my brain moves 9 million mph at night. Over the years I've gotten better at forcing myself to sleep but only once I'm semi tired.

I am getting around 6 hours consistently the last few days however, I feel a little more awake in the mornings now. Good sign.
