i'm talking, glutes literally fatiguing??

when I do bodyweight calf raises for very high reps, my glutes actually die before my calves.. they just burn and become useless.

am I alone? mutumbo seems to think so  :ninja:

Nope, I definitely also feel it in my glutes. Because of the posterior chain, from calf muscles, which I keep my knees locked and that places stress on my hamstring and that connects to my glutes, which gets sore too.

So you are not alone. But since its body weight calf raises, it makes sense for the glutes to fatigue quicker as the calf muscle has high endurance rate then the glutes.

Warm up drills
   - a walk, b skip quick powerful switch (heel to hams focus), a runs, dribbles small to big to run, straight leg to runs (force, reflex, go up/forward). force to hit the ground before it hits the ground knee/hip is at 90 degrees.
   - acceleration: low heel recovery, shin angle low, drive legs back before hitting the ground and drive thighs/knee forward not up

Measuring reminder:
5 toe to heel steps = 148cm

I read somewhere that the glutes are also actually plantar flexors due to the way the muslces attach to the knee joint and the physics resulting from that... let me find this before I sound crazy to everyone

edit: i cannot seem to find it. basically, since the anterior and posterior attachments to the knee don't line up perfectly (there is some overlap), and since the leg is a multi-jointed limb, it turns out that flexing the glute causes some slight plantar flexion as well. the physics behind it was interesting.

but thats probably not at all what's causing your glute soreness after calf raises. it does seem like a few people get sore glutes from calf raises, but i havent seen any explanation yet. maybe you are contracting your glutes without realizing? perhaps you're pulling your hips forward to line yourself under the weight properly
