I mean I have these machines at the gym, I wonder if they could help me in a way or another? Maybe there's some glute medius involvement or other muscles that have been overlooked all my life?

What do you people think?

And no, no "oh that's for the girls" replies.

useful? sure a little.. if you have weak adductors/and glute med+TFL, it definitely can help strengthen them..

all of those machines can be useful to some small degree.. being able to isolate lagging muscle groups can be effective.

one of the problems with machines is how they can create imbalances or alter 'firing patterns' which can negatively impact performance.. but for the most part that's an extreme circumstance.. for example, if you aren't free squatting/free lunging, and are just performing lots of leg extensions, you're going to have problems.. but throwing in a little accessory work on isolation-machines, isnt a problem.

Yeah that's what I was thinking... if I'm ever going to use them I'll use them high reps, and I was thinking about them possibly creating some imbalances but...

as long as the most effective compound exercises are your meat and potatoes, it's no problem to throw a few carrots or parsley into the mix.

winninks.

spine is compressed during these exercises. I prefer to do isometrics with bands or a swiss ball. My old boss said the spine was compresed not too sure
"Performance during stretch-shortening cycle exercise is influenced by the visco-elastic properties of the muscle-tendon units. During stretching of an activated muscle, mechanical energy is absorbed in the tendon structures (tendon and aponeurosis) and this energy can subsequently be re-utilized if shortening of the muscle immediately follows the stretching. According to Biscotti (2000), 72% of the elastic energy restitution action comes from tendons, 28% - from contractile elements of muscles.

why would that be? i mean your spine is somewhat compressed as long as your torso is upright, but why would those exercises compress it more?
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.
