You should use that money you sent to Taiwan Jump Coach and buy a nice pair of lifting shoes and socks.

that shoes i wear in the video is GOLD
I wear it to work (it look like black leather shoes on top)
I wear it to shower (is full of hole on the side)
I wear it to gym lol.

this native corrado rubber shoes from Canada is just perfect for me when i am always on the go.  U know I have to bring a pair of basketball shoes already.  I dont want to bring a pair of slipper with me all the time too.   so i wear that ugly pair of rubber shoes everywhere I go.

In fact.. that color way is so bad, that the local distributor did not Import it to asia, and soon later the Original Company Native Canada had discontinued this color way.
I am lucky to find the china factory which still have them.. i think I had went thur 2.5 pairs, and i brought 2 pairs extra sitting at home.

it is gold to me.. LOL

170928 Skipping Upperbody Circuit
btw, Taiwnsee coach is making me lose weight,  as of today the program is scheduled like this
Mon Lifting  (squat, hipthrust, Calf raise and Core)
Tues 20 min cardio before breakfast  and Upper body circuit if u have energy
Wed Max effort jump ( FOR SOME UNKNOW REASON, I got HIGH... it is not my best jump, but it is my best height it seem.... placbo effect may be?  I have video to prove it also)
Thu 20 min cardio before breakfast  and Upper body circuit if u have energy (today, i will skip the upperbody circuit)
Fri Plyometric (not sure what i have to do yet)
Sat  20 min cardio before breakfast
Sun  20 min cardio before breakfast

I am running with my girl at night 3 times a week, and yesterday we did 4x 800m with 5 min rest between which is 3.2km.... my leg is quite tired... but the next morning i still stick to the program and did 20min cardio.    i am at 181lbs now.  consider i was 188lbs few weeks ago... i guess... there is progress..

Hello I’m in HK right now, just wondering if you know where there are lower rims?
I had Pm-ed the exact location in google map to you.

^^^agree.

didn't you used to squat below parallel, as well?

I had been squatting for near 8+ years.. there is all kind of things i had done before..
conventional stance, wide stance, below parallel, atg.. half squat.... what not...
seriously.. i just want to get up.

Thx for the great location scooby. Took me 1.5 hrs to get there but was worth it. I found the lowest rim and just did every plant on it. Dribble dunks, lobs, from every angle, etc lol. Was fun. Do u have an estimate on its height? 9’7 or 9’8 u think?

Ok so the rim heights are 9’6.5, 9’7, 9’8.5, and 9’9 in feet. Good range of heights. Will continue working on the 9’6.5 one the next time I get back.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEgZ6qbA1YM" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEgZ6qbA1YM</a>

eh.. did you do all of that stuff before you jumped? all of those drops/DJ's?

i wouldn't be able to jump for shit after all of that stuff either..

before my jump sessions, I did ~5-10 minutes of just light dribbling/short sprints, then I started working into progressively more intense jumps/dunk attempts. I've mentioned this several times to you, but all of that stuff before actual jumping can actually "shut you down".. so, if your coach has you doing it, you have a few options:
1. don't get discouraged because that stuff is going to most likely wreck your CNS prior to jumping, so realize that your actual jumps will be affected
2. ask that some jump sessions be "free", with the only goal being actual jumping
3. a session like that could generate alot of fatigue and help you jump alot better a few days from now

To *ME*, drops precluding jumping is not the best idea .. if the goal is to actually jump high. These things are a "shock" and can completely wreck your central nervous system - i mean, it's an out of nowhere force absorption while consciously preventing any rebound effect.. they can just throw everything out of whack. Utilizing them *AFTER* some max jumping is fine IMHO. Low box DJ's before a jump session seem to be ok.

so, you being discouraged, becomes: should I be discouraged given the context of what precluded my jumps? IMHO, no.. should you be discouraged in general? dno, but, from what I saw in the video, you looked really "dead" and still got some decent jumps off.. you looked "fried", but jumped ok.. so to me, not discouraging.

FWIW, the only thing I really liked before jumping was some pogos, but light/reflexive, just to get my "triple extension" firing real solid .. but that was just like 2-4 reps max, just a few bounces to make sure everything is locking out as I extend every joint.

peace

Thanks Adarq. It wss actually my common practice to do 5 reps of drop and 5 reps depthjump as warm up.
Guess it is doing more harm than good.  Would take ur advice and in my next effort jump session next week.

Mean while a video log.

171007 W2 Plyo
Some of the contact time is way too long.
Coach suggested to focus on low ground contact time while maintaining 90 percent height.
He said try to not lose more than 10 percent of vert while keeping the speed up
Thats the idea, but in no way i can tell if i am jumping my 90 or 80 percent height...
I just know.. I am slow... When i am on the ground too long.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw6A_zcCVWU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw6A_zcCVWU</a>

again, "i just know, i am slow .. my contact time are way too slow". why? says who? it's not that bad .. the problem I see, is that you are thinking about that landing after the jump, it's obvious that's what's going on in your head.

in a true depth jump: you drop, and jump as high as possible while trying to get off the ground as fast as possible, that's all you think about. That's the cue that the guy who created depth jumps, found to be the best/most effective. He also used an overhead goal (something to hit/touch), which makes them more effective, but not everyone has that kind of setup. If you can implement an overhead goal, I would do it.

there's no 90%, 80%, or thinking about what to do after you jump (ie some kind of landing).

so i'm not trying to go against your coach, but, there's no 90% in a true DJ. If you are doing 90%, that's a submax DJ effort.. which again, could be the purpose, to get more volume in or maybe just as preparation for more intense DJ's, so who knows.

but, the biggest problem is that you are thinking about landing in some "squat form" after your jump.. I don't get that at all. If you jump as high as possible, you will land all kinds of different ways. It'll never be one consistent type of landing: sometimes you'll twist, sometimes you look all funny & be off balanced, sometimes you'll land picture perfect -> NONE OF WHICH IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER. Many of my highest jumps after DJ's had my literally landing facing the other direction, because i'm reaching up as high as possible with my right arm and that causes considerable twisting.

so, to me, the fact that you have added another "link in the chain" to the movement, means you are sacrificing the ability to truly focus on the DJ itself. Someone has told you, or you are trying, to do a "Depth Jump + Depth drop" .. IMHO, those are two different exercises. The Depth Jump itself has a drop, the initial drop off of the box/etc. The next phase is the jump. There's no reason to have yet another depth drop after the jump .. I mean it'll happen naturally, you're landing .. but no reason to actually think about sticking the landing in some kind of specific form.

your DJ's are not as bad as you think they are.. you often think things are worse than they are, I feel that this may cause you to overanalyze in the wrong direction. Since you think you're slow off the ground, or your jump plant isn't low enough, or your runup is too slow etc, you try and manually correct these things, causing more "thought" during the movements.

the more you think during an explosive/dynamic movement, the worse it gets. Just "think" about that, no pun intended. It should be reflexive, free, with as little interference from the brain as possible. By thinking too much & correcting (or what we think is correcting, actually incorrecting) various components of a movement, we actually teach ourselves to be more mechanical. We are not machines.

Clear your mind and just, do - with maximal effort, passion, love, intensity, etc.

my 2 cents.

peace!

Thanks adarq. i read that loud and clear.  Less thinking.. Just attack the floor and explode up.

btw, the squat position in every END landing phs concept... is what i got from doing BoingVert (by Shawn Myszka) back in the days.
he always do this... Hand swing down/back squat position every time when he end in a Landing position.    (I guess it is to take that EXTRA depth drop stimulation? I m not too sure myself.)

dope vid. reminds me of the jump/dunk sessions i used to love the most: at night, with tons of people at a court, getting my jumps in - in between their full court game etc, feeling the extra nerves/adrenaline from those kinds of environments.

also, you had some really nice jumps in there.. they were all over the place.. it looks like you might be starting your run up from too far out, but then on that last jump (and a few others before it) it came together beautifully.. you also "yelled" prior to that run up, that's good shit... Could really see the aggression before that jump, pacing, the yell, getting amp'd up, then you got up really good.

so like i just mentioned above, about run up .. that's a critique most people will give, and it could be a valid critique. However, I mentioned it more so from the perspective that people will bring it up, and that you should still just do what feels good/right WITHOUT OVERTHINKING IT and go HARD, just really focus on giving everything on each jump.

overthinking is like consciously adding speed bumps to your nervous system...

no speed bumps. floor it.
