Thanks seifullaah73!

I deleted my post because I felt embarrassed talking about it. That's a funny story about rugby but yeah I'll work my best and reform myself.

i read it earlier. it was a good post.

also fwiw, i definitely don't think it's easy for people to stop drinking, so when i throw out a "just try not to drink alot" etc, I don't expect it to be easy, or useful .. im just throwing it out there, because it definitely seems like you drink more in response to "negative" situations.

one thing that always helped me was "taking it out on the barbell". i'd lift pretty hard & crazy, in response to negative situations. sometimes i'd lift so much that I had no more energy available to think about things. it's somewhat similar with running etc, but i don't have as many negative situations lately. some of my longest runs have been attempts at clearing my mind.

peace man!

i understand the embarrassment but you shouldn't be. drug addiction -- and alcohol is a drug -- is a nasty disease. our bodies compel us to do things like drink water and eat sugar and fat and breathe in and out by rewarding us chemically. when we find something that goes straight to the reward system, and takes us out of ourselves by altering our consciousness, it can be extremely difficult to give it up. and some people are more susceptible to impulsive, compulsive use than others. seems like you're in the former category, it's been clear on here for years that you have an issue with alcohol abuse.

so no, it's not as simple as "just stop drinking." but you do have agency. get yourself to an AA meeting. AA doesn't work for everyone, or maybe even most people, but it's saved some people i know. my dad's best friend is 35 years sober and still goes to AA every week, even on vacation. it completely failed for my brother. ymmv. but try it. see if you can find a therapist in your town who does dialectical behavioral therapy, one on one or in groups. try that. just keep trying to stop. do not quit on yourself.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

Thanks adarqui!

Yeah I knew you didn't mean it like that. Even though I'm still struggling with alcohol I have become wiser around trigger points. E.g. I avoid purchasing cartons of beer because I know I'll be tempted to drink it all within a day or two. I actually don't have an issue with wine or spirits mainly because I literally don't drink them. I don't drink wine because I hate the taste of it and with spirits I feel like I can't control myself very well when I drink. When I say can't control I mean the effect it has on my body. When I drink beers I can feel my body going through the stages of intoxication. With spirits I'll go from feeling normal to being passed out 30-60 minutes later so I never get to enjoy the buzz. It's different with pre-mix spirits but I don't like Coke /sweetness so the last time I've drunk spirits to get drunk was actually back in 2011. The one and only time I got drunk off wine was back in 2005 as a 15 year old and I ended up just vomitting in the middle of the night and woke up feeling awful, which has put me off drinking wine ever since.

Thanks for the advice LBSS. It's funny when people mention drugs most people think of meth, coke or heroin etc. If alcohol wasn't a multi-billion dollar industry with a large amount of social acceptance it's hard to see how it would be legal. You can literally die from drinking too much at one time and it's also one of the only drugs that you can die from not drinking it (severe alcoholics). Yet instead it's a widely accepted product and you can't even watch a game of sport without being flooded with alcohol advertisements or the billboards of alcohol sponsors.

Soreness-
Neck and shoulders. As already discussed I had a couple of heavy nights on Wednesday and during the day on Thursday so I ended up sleeping on the floor and used to many pillows and somehow managed to twist/aggravate my left neck and traps.

Friday-
Didn't train due to soreness.

Saturday-

Track-
5x100m with walkback recovery increasing the speed on each one. I only timed the last 2x100m, which were 12.6 on the 4th and 12.1 for the 5th (rested an extra 60 seconds on top of the walk back for the 5th set).

Squat-
60x6
100x3
105x3x3
80x8

Pull Ups-
8x3

Exercise Bike-
150 calories

Treadmill-
150 calories including jogging for 2:30 minutes at 15.8 km/h.

Sunday-
Rest.

Monday-

Exercise Bike-
225 calories

Squat-
60x6
90x5
102.5x5x3

Chin Ups + 15kg
5x3

Treadmill-
150 calories including 2:30 minute jog @ 16.2 km/h. As I increase the speed these jogs are getting more difficult and starting to feel more like runs, particularly after I've been running for 2 minutes I'm just staring at the clock counting down the seconds haha.

I've been really slack with training for the last 10 days. I finished work last week and haven't trained since the beginning of last week.

Friday Night-
Went to a work dinner straight after work to an Italian restaurant and had a 5 course meal.

Saturday-
Had guests come over staying from interstate for Christmas. They just left today (Wednesday).

I'm off to Melbourne tomorrow for a few days so I won't be training until New Years.

I hope everyone had a great Xmas! Happy New Years and I'll be back updating my blog again in 2019 once festivities are over.

I'm back from my Melbourne holiday. It's such a nice city and massive compared to my home city. Unfortunately I was sick (Gastro) on my first couple of days of the holiday so I couldn't do as much sight seeing as I would've liked and spent a lot of time on the toilet with diarrhea and vomiting any food/liquid I ingested. On Friday night I drank some Gatorade and it cured my symptoms.

On Saturday I caught a train out to Werribee to meet a friend I played rugby with. We arranged to meet at a local pub and it was one of the most feral pubs I've ever been to. I got there at 4pm and half the patrons were already pissed off their heads and there was an unusually high amount of head/neck tattoos. I went to the urinal and people had defecated in it and there were flies everywhere- it was fkn disgusting. I went to the disabled toilet and it was even worse! The bathrooms were uninhabitable.

I arrived before my friend so I bought a beer and went out to the beer garden for a smoke to kill the time. So I go outside and within 30 seconds of being there an old drunk man wearing a santa hat is yelling out "you black bastard" to a random African teenager walking past to the amusement of his acquaintances. I thought if the African had come back and retaliated I was definitely not going to stop him. However, he kept walking so I said "that's not a very nice thing to say". The old santa man said to me "I don't like them" so I told him "keep your opinions to yourself". He didn't say anything back to me he just shut his mouth and his acquaintances gave me some dirty looks but didn't say anything. We all sat in awkward silence until I finished my smoke and left.

Eventually my friend rocked up and we went back to his house and drank a cartoon of beer.

Hahahahaha. Werribee!!! Does not surprise me at all.

Let me know the next time you're in Melbourne. I'll take you to a slightly less neck tatted area  ;D

Yeah definitely a place I won't forget!

I probably won't go to Melbourne for another couple of years now but I was very impressed with all the infrastructure occurring and the amount of commercial buildings in the CBD. Adelaide is such a rust bucket city in comparison. Unfortunately I haven't utilised my holidays very well in terms of searching for new jobs. However, if I can't see myself having a meaningful career in Adelaide and expanding my skills I could see myself relocating to Melbourne in the future.

Sydney has jobs but it is overrated and too expensive. I like Brisbane but there are less job opportunities than Melbourne. Perth is struggling and the distance is too isolating. The only bad thing about Melbourne is the beers! Surely some pubs could have Super Dry on tap instead of Carlton Draught and VB  :P

PS- adarqui I won't be going back there haha

Soreness-
Absolutely none- what happens when you don't exercise/train for 2 weeks  ;D

Chin Ups-

bw+10kg 5x2
bw+ 12kg 5x2

Treadmill-
300 calories including 2:30 minutes @ 16.6km/h, which equates to a 3:36 minute km. Felt relatively easy.

Squat-

60x6
80x6
100x3
107.5x3
82.5x9

Treadmill-
200 calories including 2:30 minutes at 17km/h (3:31 minute km speed). I was breathing heavily afterwards but atm it's still more of a mental challenge as the speed is still comfortable for me.
