I had a big night of drinking beers last night. I woke up feeling shit today and I must have slept on my neck because the side of my neck/trap has been aching all day.
Played pick-up ball for 2 hours. It got pretty heated because one of the teams we were playing kept calling out fouls every time they drove.
Which is worse though: a team that calls a foul on any contact on offense or a team that never calls them on defense even when they're hacks? I could never decide.
This team were charging right at us and drawing contact most of the time and just calling fouls whenever they missed. One guy was leading with his shoulder the whole time and initiating contact. Being pick up outdoors you can't exactly take a charge so the only option is to give a bit of contact back otherwise you'll fall over. The only way to beat them was literally not to give them the ball and score 5 straight to rotate to the next team. I don't get frustrated over pick up because it's just a game, but these guys were terrible to play with and people who take it more competitive were losing their tempers.
The game got heated when one of the guys in my team (I didn't even know the guy he just asked to play with us) snapped and flagrantly fouled one of their players when he went in to drive. The player in my team grabbed him and pulled him off the ground, which was unnecessary. The guy he picked up swung a punch at him, but missed and his team mates all came in swearing at my team mate threatening to bash him. Me and my friends just got in the middle and broke it up and told everyone to calm the fuck down. But yeah that was the drama for the day.
As for the question I prefer playing against teams that don't call fouls and leave it up to you to decide. Most people are fairly reasonable. I never call fouls and leave it up to the other team to call them and 90% of the time if there was something in it they'll call it. The other 10% I just leave it and continue playing on with the game.
