I didn't get to lift last night so I went and played/jumped a lot this morning. I'm noticing it takes a little to get jumping decently, usually 15-20mins of jumps but after that it definitely improves.

Anyway, played pretty well, no real competition but I worked on some little stuff. Jumps were fun. If I could time a lob I'd probably be able to pull off a few nice dunks so worked on that a ton. Learned I spin opposite of my plant so 360s are hard to find the ball in the air but I got close a few times. Reverses are almost automatic, tried a few pump reverses off the dribble.  No good. Gotta throw a lob still. And I'm maybe 2-3" from the top of the square on a decent jump. Hopefully I'll get their before summer.

Ughh. Took the woman out for vday...gained 5lbs. -___- Not sure if it was the food or the fact I drank alcohol for the first time in just over 3 years. Regardless...going to have to bust ass in the weight room tonight lol

Monday Feb 17 2014

BW 174-176lbs. Bleh, still a few lbs high but acceptable. Good focus/motivation today and body felt well recovered.

-warmup+jumps

-Squats
(non banded to parallel) 225x5 275x1 315x1 365x1 405 x1 405x1. unhappy with first 405, second wasn't much better though. Blah.
(banded quarter squats) 545 x5, x5, x5; 405 x8. 545 is painful for reps, breathing is hard, chest/upper back feels like a house is on them. Reversal on these sucked but they went up ok. Backed off with the 405 set for pure speed, felt ridiculously light after the 545s lol

-paused calf raise
680lbs x7, x7. failed rep 8 for full ROM both sets.
540lbs x12, x12.

-hypers
45lbs x8, x8, x8.

Step ups and lunges to kill quads at the end. 2 sets each.

Back/bicep and a lot of ab/core work as well. Workout was great, felt like blacking out after the second set of quarters but it was fun, hope to keep pushing for another week or so then I'll take some rest as I'm sure I'll be burnt out/fried. :)

Lol thanks Raptor! But...I'm not. At least not like what I'd to be like as I feel I still lack in areas. P-chain especially.  Lower back is lacking as well. I think strengthening these areas would allow my body to realize more of its full potential.

I think the human body is amazing. I don't think many people ever come remotely close to maximizing the (their) bodies performance capabilities.  I mean, every time I turn around I'm seeing or hearing of some incredible feat of athletic performance or how someone survived a harsh climate or wreck or something. Our bodies just keep adapting to the stresses put on them and continue to amaze me. So...I kind of see it as a challenge and my personal responsibility to see what I can achieve with what God and nature have given me. If I feel like I haven't pushed myself right up to my limits every time in the weight room I feel like I'm failing myself. I think that mentality can push someone a long way. Granted, I have friends who refuse to train with me because I'm 'insane', 'crazy', and 'too intense' (their words lol) but idk, its worked so far.

Forgive my rambling, I'm running on 4 hours of sleep total the last two days (recovery is sucking lmao) and the woman just went into surgery for her leg. Long last few days lol

Womans surgery went well and her mom came by to hangout with her soooo....I went to hoop lol! Played pickup for an hour and jumped/dunked for another. Worked on some new stuff and practiced a few dunks on the 9'6" goal to try and get timing/mechanics down. Caught one lob windmill on the little goal and was eye level with the rim, felt awesome. So need to get like that on 10 foot!!!

Well...my foot went through a pallet at work and now my left Achilles is sore when I point my foot. :/ bleh. I'm thinking of skipping anything reactive on fridays workout to keep stress of it. From reading apparently a grade 1 strain usually only takes a week or so to heal (lol achilles/heel/heal gah. Anyway...). I'll be stretching and icing it daily.

Ice....ice....ice....my foot/ankle is going to catch frostbite. -__-

Anyone every squat or deadlift with a ankle/achilles injury? I definitely will be avoiding all jumping/running/cutting etc but Id like to try some lightweight stuff if I can. If not....core and upper body.

squatting always came back last after ankle injuries because of the dorsiflexion. SL stuff like BSS came back first if you feel stable enough (and if you do, SL stuff is good because it helps with balance) and then RDLs.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

Thanks LBSS!!! I usually toss in some SL stuff at the end if workouts just to isolate and 'finish' off muscle groups. Guess I'll just hit a few sets of them instead of deads/squats.

Did some light weight SL stuff, BSS, stepups, ham curls, etc. Tried a SL box squat with a dumbbell but that wasn't happening without discomfort. The pain is almost all gone but my ROM isn't back yet so more ice/wrapping/stretching today.

Oh, took out my frustration on an upper body circuit. :)

Also of note. I started yesterday on 5g/day of creatine. I doubt it will do much in season since I don't lift as hard but...we shall see.

And my weight is up to 178-180lbs since I have not played lately. :(

Still waiting on this achilles to heal fully. Had another round of therapy on it today. Almost got back to full ROM on it after therapy so thats a good sign. ROM was shitty before getting it worked on. I've been doing SL light weight stuff that doesn't use the achilles at all (ham curls, those stupid quad/leg extension things, etc) but its just not the same as squats/deads/etc obviously. Weight has gone to a steady 178-180lbs and I'm guessing its fron having zero cardio/running/playing lately.

More therapy tomorrow and Thursday.

Was able to jog some today with no pain! Yay! I did a really easy going quarter mile, stretched, then repeated. Still have some slight pain at full ROM but it's getting better. Slowly yet surely.
