this log is making me itch for a vaccine so i can lift weights again. i'm looking at an apartment today that is less than a block from my old gym. if i end up signing the lease on it...oh baby. fixin' to do starting strength for the first time in a decade.

do it! i envy you cos you'll enjoy it a lot more having not lifted in a long time. plus you also make solid progress rapidly so it's exciting to follow along  :ibjumping:

i haven't logged in a minute (as the kids say). i tweaked my back doing deadlifts. to be fair i think the main reason was life stress etc ruining sleep and recovery and also the first time i did sprints wrecking my muscles and nerves .. so all of that combined just made the conditions perfect for a a
back injury. and ofcourse being a stupid caveman i never even considered backing off so here we are. i dropped the bar after the 3rd rep of 152.5kg. i'd done 5x155kg last week so it's not like it was easy, i was going for 6x152.5kg, 5x157.5kg and 177.5kg - bailed the workout  on the first set.

good news is, i rested one day, did nothing  for the entire day for first time in like 8 months.

i stopped logging, but still kicking ..
will start logging again but i just wanted to report im closing in on the first milestone of 95kg bodyweight, weighed 96.2kg im the gym in the last two weighins. was 96.5kg in the bathroom scales before i ran today.  i started 2021 at 100kg, so i'm doing okay .. if i hadn't injured my back would have a pretty sick deadlift to show for it as well but im happy just being healthy and training regularly!

have managed to get 12 runs in this year .. aiming for a total of 52. so far so good.

my sister and bro in law and kid are visiting for easter break. bro in law said he ran 10km last week at a sub 6/km pace .... i askked him what he weighed and he said 90kg. So he's kind of where i want to be - 90kg bodyweight and sub 6/km pace 10km. so i pushed my pace a bit today and ran one of my best times this year at 11km in 6.72/km pace! also was chasing a few ppl on the trail ..  one of them was a little fat lady who kicked my ass .. i am such a disgrace to the sex.

Wow my password still works.. haha

so as update, currently 85kg soaking wet and can run a sub 60min 10km without trying too hard. I PR'd 10km last week at 56:06 and yesterday i PR'd my 5km at 26:44. The week before that i ran my fastest 1km at 5:07. The interesting thing is i've build this fitness just by consistently running 1x a week. I don't want to specialise on anything, just think that's fool's gold, so i try to progress everything gently on a 1x weekly schedule.

I have about 1.5kg of straight up fat to diet off and then i will do a recomp, try gain some of muscle mass/strength back which i lost while dieting down to 85kg from the pandemic heaviest of 100kg.

Lifting goals are 60/90/140/180 for sets of 5 on ohp, bp, bs, dl. I'm currently at 57/84/102/142.5kg - i had a 3 week holiday so that set me back on lifting but not in a rush to get back to previous levels quick.

In terms of training, i intend to add interval training as the weather gets warmer and im eating more food to recover. I think by using HIIT i can get my 5km time closer to ultimate goal of 22:30 and 10km to 50:00. Not in a rush to get there though, want to enjoy the journey.

Will update hopefully in 6 months

I'm a month early or a year late but here we go - update time! Was reading the logs and got inspired by AGC's kid vertec thing. I have been dabblign in jumping again recently after about 5 years off and i think the vertec might be the thing that gets me back in the logs  :headbang:

weight training wise, won't go into the usual boring lifts but keep it to the lifts i am excited about right now. finally made some progress on bench press. tripled 100kg for the frist time which was a milestone. I'm now resetting back to 90kg ish and trying to master that for 8 reps then progressing up from there. I got 7x87.5kg last time, 90kg hopefully this week. Also started doing barbell rows - set myself a lofty goal of 8x100kg in the next two months time. I'm on 77.5kg atm - not bad considering i've never done them.

i let myself go massively this year, i'm about 10kg too heavy right now at 97kg, after maintaining a healthy/strong 85kg for two years, so that sucks but it's a starting point. not actively dieting, just trying to get a routine of eating well and training well first and then can revisit.

Thank you both! Right now i'm at 100kg worksets (4 sets of 5) for BS and 5x95kg for FS. I'm aiming to progress 2.5kg per week. I dont think i'm eating enough to progress squats right now - so they've been stuck a while.

I've recently returned to basketball after a 10-year break. I'm training hard and joined a rec league that starts soon. This week, I filled in for a game and discovered a mental shift. I used to be insecure and hesitant on the court, but I'm now more confident and focused. To improve my fitness, I've started interval training in addition to that I'm also running to build an aerobic base. My goal is to be able to sustain high-intensity effort for longer periods, which will benefit my basketball game.

Sunday - 91.6kg bw
Treadmill run - 8.5km - 51:20 @ 6:02/km

HR was way too high, not sure what exactly it was since I don't trust the watch measurement of 168bpm average but my HR strap battery died prior to the run. Next time go a bit longer, going to cap it at an hour though.

Monday - 91.7kg bw

BS 5x107.5, 2x120, 1x127.5, done

One of my worst squat sessions in a long time. But very valuable because of the knowedge gained. What's happened is I can squat heavy, but then my knee cartilage is done. And i have to wrap it up. I can't even squat light after that, it's just 15 years of squatting has won away what I was born with. I think it's a OA at work, i had a doctor warn me about that in 2019 when I had my first and only serious knee injury. It seems I have to accept that now, i cant just ignore it anymore.

GPT tells me to do higher reps with lower weights, i will give that a shot. But def need to stay away from heavy squats now.

Wed - ? BW

Game day! Second game back, I was able to fill in again for the same team. Only catch, we only had 4 players. I'm not in shape so playing a full court game (which i could barely do even 10 years younger and 15kg lighter) without going to the bench was a huge challenge. But my training seems to be working! The itnervals ive been doing have already shown great promise. I handled it much better than expected. I logged this one with a HRM: Please give me your insights:

I never ever hit those peaks in my normal training. Like running a hard threshold run might have me maxing out around 190-200 - but 230 is wild. It goes to show that i have an aerobic base but it's not why i'm unfit for the sport - it .. must .. be anaerobic??

Game was good. I took a few shots (last game i only took one and airballed it and it was only because i wanted to force it to have that checkmark that i attempted a shot). made most of them. Got a block or two, a few rebounds. TOO MANY turnovers, turns out shooting around like I do once a week does nothing for making you connect well on passes with an actual player lol. So i will need to get more reps in for that.
