Hey grats on the GHRs. Thats a monster exercise.

thanks man.. i can't wait until i can do a full natural ghr on there, given how weak my hamstrings have been my whole life that'll be a big achievement.. i still have probably like 4-6 months hah!

amazing session tonight!!!!!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXuXikfIYHY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXuXikfIYHY</a>

6/31/2010

soreness: hamstrings
aches: nothing much really.. lower back a little
injuries: right adductor strain, but its feeling better than yesterday, but definitely couldn't sprint

BW 157

workout:
- interval jog up to basketball court : legs didn't feel too great
- warmup jumps x 5 each plant (5 LR, 5 RL) : started feeling better
- LR + RL jumps: 5 each, 3 sets... jumped better than last two days, hit some nice 30's off LR and a 124" off RL !!!
- single leg jumps: worked up to about 10'5" touch multiple times from SLRVJ L, hit 10' bARELY on SLRVJ R!!!!
- walking lunges: about .75 miles worth non stop, felt so good and explosive on them.. when i walked after for a while, i couldn't bend my legs no joke.. i had to walk stiff legged.
- calf raises: about 10-12 sets of 20-30

on those single leg jumps, most of my runups came from 3pt line, but i even did a few from half court.. full acceleration into the plant.. felt so good, couldn't believe how good my SLRVJ felt.

so far this GPP is going good, didn't expect to jump like this today.. happy.

hopefully ill get some SLRVJ vid on saturday or something?

peace

my quads/glutes were wrecked today.. didn't feel too bad early on but man they were FATIGUED, not sore, during my workout..

7/1/2010

bw = 158
soreness = quads,hamstrings,glutes,calfs
aches: right knee a little, left ankle a little, right ham tendon a little bit - lol (left too)

my body wants to gain weight in this GPP, im not doing much to actually gain weight though.. but my milk intake is retardedly high right now, i can't stop drinking it... damn you super high rep walking lunges!

workout:
- light jog to bball court
- SVJ's: out of about 20 attempts, only hit rim 3 times, but was happy with that, very fatigued today
- no-step single leg jumps (from ~8 feet out just go right into plant and jump): L-SLRVJ hit rim every time, a few 10'2-10'3..... R-SLRVJ hit rim 2 times haha.. about 15 jumps each leg
- interval ~20 yard sprints x 10 each
- ~2 mile jog home
- dips on bars: 12 deep, 10 deep
- neutral grip pullups: 15
- chinups: 12
- natural GHR marathon session: 15 minutes straight, tons of mini reps, some good mini reps at PR depth matching last session

hamstrings/glutes/quads (VMO especially) are TOAST right now..

tomorrow im resting, in hopes of SLRVJ'n saturday and getting some PR's on tape.. i hit 10'7 on vertec 1-1.5 years ago or whatever, could never match it, but that's my PR as it stands.. hope to beat that on saturday.. gonna eat REAL BIG tomorrow then my normal light eating + caffeine/ginseng tea on saturday....

don't really care about dunking i just wanna do some big SLRVJ's sat :D

peace

hey man

im looking to achieve a natural GHR

what do you think is the best method.

on the post below a guy said in 2 weeks he achieved it using a med ball GTG style.

other ideas included ab wheels

do you agree?

and with your 15 min GHR sessions where on the iso do you hold it? half way down ? with the mini reps do you do like a 100 or so with a push off the deck?

great site and articles andrew keep it up

sup man

I can't find the "med ball GTG style" in that thread.. I see stuff about a physioball etc..

I'd imagine ab wheel would be hard to keep form, but if you could, it might be effective, never tried that.. I wouldn't be able to do ab wheel variation because I have a "poor man's GHR" so it would fall off the end.

The most effective way to get to doing a natural GHR seems to be just trying HARD AS FUCK.. what I mean by that is.. using proper form, lowering to a point where your hamstrings are cramping so bad yet you're still trying so hard to maintain position.. same goes with the concentric phase. For some reason, I most of the time bitch out or stop a bit short of that cramping range of motion, but when I do force myself through it I definitely get stronger on the GHR.

Taje is an example of someone who took that approach. He spent some times using bands to help train the movement, but the majority of his improvement came when every rep he cramped up so bad and pushed through it. The determination on his face was psychotic.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0zK6epaYcY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0zK6epaYcY</a>

Here are some banded variations I liked, everyone else found them useful but they would tear my hamstring tendons up, so be careful if you try them. I would definitely stop short of COMPLETE extension of the knees at the bottom if you use any banded/assisted method, seriously, that aided full extension can be very hard on the tendons.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFADQlsyYr0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFADQlsyYr0</a>

pulley & banded variations ^^^

Taje literally became obsessed with natural GHR.. everyone else hated it, he loved it, and he couldn't even do an eccentric first time he got on it.. I've never been able to progress anyone like he did because he simply was obsessed with it, while most people end up fearing that movement.

So far, with myself, like i said, most improvement comes when I get into that cramping state and focus 100% to try and concentric back up, very hard though for sure.

I hold the iso at a very small angle, not even really close to halfway, since if i got to half way i'd only have a few seconds there.. I probably get about 1 minute on that ROM.

For the mini reps I just oscillate back and forth unassisted, so ya i'll hit about 50 of those then i'll stretch my legs out while being in the pmghr to reset for some bigger rep attempts.

I do my natural GHR as strict as possible, if I let my back arch (or upper back round) + abs loose, I can definitely get alot deeper than if I keep my glutes squeezed + abs tight + back neutral.. I just feel glutes and abs squeezed would definitely transfer more to sprinting than leaving them lax, which forces more forces more of the work to the hamstring BUT also gives you more leverage. I remember seeing someone doing them completely folded in half, shit was hilarious.

july 4 2010!!!!!!!

this is what i intended to post before i worked out tonight at 3am:

Quote
pouring rain all day.. couldn't do crap hehe!

i might go do some stuff though in a second actually so i dno, so much smoke in the air from july 4th i don't want to inhale that crap.. it literally is EVERYWHERE.. it's funny how some fireworks here and there can totally ruin every ounce of air in the sky, pretty scary, beware of chem warfare.

sky cleared up by 3am.. so i went to workout..

bw in morning = 157

soreness; none
aches: none
injuries: felt good today

GREAT WORKOUT!
- wanted to goto another court, but some shady ass cars were inside the locked park, with the lights on wtf?
- so had to jog extra to get to the other court.. ~2 mile run to other court
- LR AND RL jumps from 1-2 steps, highest = possibly 31, overall jumps were explosive, hit a bunch of 30's from LR and a few 10'4's from RL
- double leg tuck jumps: 10 sets of 10 <--- good shit
- stiff leg ankle hops: tried 3x5, but i couldnt land stiff and jump, NOT A GOOD SIGN... so i did some prep work
- strict mini stiff leg ankle hops: 3 x 20 <-- killed my calfs bad, especially left
- run home: ~1.5 miles <-- lol legs dead

i planned on doing lunges etc tonight but realized i need to alternate rebounding sessions with my bodyweight sessions.. i don't have enough rebounding focus.. here i am about to add weight to my bodyweight shit and ruin my experiment.. so instead of that im going to focus on the rebounds now too.

the SLAH's were bad.. when my RVJ was peaked, I could SLAH off a mini hop about ~24+ inches no joke.. i was barely getting 12-14 inches off the 5 reps of SLAH's.. so that's another exercise I need to maintain efficiency in.. i just had no ability to lock my legs and stiff leg bounce.. not good!

ok so nice workout..

peace!

Veeeeery nice!
What I like most on SLRVJs is 3 things:
1) How fluid the motion is by nature.
2) The horizontal distance of the jump because of the speed.
3) There is not much difference in max height with/without ball. In DLRVJ you lose 2'' or more with the ball in hands from the countermovement difference. Try some dunks next time , if u can palm the ball u should be able to land them.
10' SLRVJ dunk from DL-jumper = HUGEEEEEEEE!!!  ;D
Target training paces (min/km), calculated from 5K PR 22:49 :
Easy run : 5:48
Tempo run : 4:50
VO2-max run :4:21
Speed form run : 4:02

---

it's the biggest trick in the run game.. go slow to go fast. it doesn't make sense until it smacks you in the face and you're like ....... wtf?

that's what im loving about it.. it feels so great to jump like this.. it takes less out of my brain too, like im not really getting AMPED UP like i do with my double leg jumps.. with double leg jumps many times after an attempt my brain hurts from focusing so hard to get up, and holding my breathe/being so aggressive.

Quote
2) The horizontal distance of the jump because of the speed.

ya, a 30" DLRVJ feels WAAAAAAAAAAAY different than a 30" SLRVJ.. so much more distance.

i want to try and really focus on transitioning to vertical though and lose some of that distance, i think im possibly gaining too much distance for my jump height.. i might have some more inches in my if i "try and jump backwards" like i do with dlrvj.

Quote
3) There is not much difference in max height with/without ball. In DLRVJ you lose 2'' or more with the ball in hands from the countermovement difference.

ya ive noticed that.. thats a plus!

ya i was going to try but i only brought my super-pumped-up-ball, which i can't grip for crap, it's beyond inflated.. i have another ball which is regulation indoor which i can get a nice grip on.. i'll try soon :D

i will get one sometime soon, within the month possibly or during august FOR SURE :)

peace man
