5/3/2010

drank soda today when i went out to eat philly cheese steaks with my mom.. for dinner.. i have the weirdest response to soda man, i get super tired instantly, my eye sight gets a little worse, than an hour or so later i pass out and fall asleep.. happens every week when we goto this place.. i drink like maybe .5 L of birch beer rootbeer.. so it took me a while to wakeup during my workout tonight.

left big toe bugging..

back feeling good!

158 lb in morning, 161 lb before workout, 155 after workout

1.5 mile walk to basketball court

bball dribbling + shooting + layups + jumps:
- mostly bball dribbling, shooting, and layups/floaters, but i threw a bunch of jumps in at times
- most jumps were 10'4-10'5, after run-in with cop, i hit 10'6 and possibly 10'7 hah
- LEVEL-7 mang! ^^^

so during my bball stuff, cop drives by, so im watching him then around .5 miles down the road he u-turns and im like...... ahhhhhhhhhhh shit........... so he comes back, flashes lights/spotlight on me, calls me over, asks for my info, looks it up, asks me what im doing out at 2am, i say im just working out, and then he smiles and is like: "ok well i got no problem with it if no one else does, so have a nice night" boom.. so that was cool.. after that little incident, the mini level-7 kicked in and i jumped higher, had alot more power, that shit woke me up hardcore.. koz i thought i was gonna get kicked out so i was secretly pissed.

if the cop was a girl like the one above, i would have gotten them digits but it was a dude so that sucked, woulda been awesome if it was a hot chick cop, playboy playmate cop centerfold.

1.5 mile walk home:
- security guard at some complex was creeping on me, stared him down, wtf was he in the middle of the road looking at me for, leaving his booth, odd shit.. dude has a red car.. we stared down for like 2 mins then he walked off.. guy seems odd, 50 year old or so white guy with glasses.

for the police report ^

at home:

neutral grip pullups: 13

dips on bars: 15 + about 30 minis right after

mini chinups: 20 or so

dips on bars: 30 mini

done.

Level 7 mwahahahahah!

Congrats with your good jumps man. Can you already dunk with a 10'7 touch?

thanks man hah

nah like that's 10'7 peak, so mostly 10'5-10'6.. only way i could dunk with 10'7 is if im palming, my self lobs never go in with that height.. so i probably could if i palmed, but if i palmed, i wouldn't get my big arm swing so it would be less.. i need 10'9 or so from run up to start throwing them down weak again.

pc man!

9 inches seems a lot to be able to do minimum dunks, maybe its cuz your lobbing technique i duno i just do them straight off the dribble i guess cuz thats how i want to dunk anyways

BTW, sent you a PM darqui

haha thanks! im not gonna try dunks until im complete hand over rim consistently, then ill play around with lobs again.. i won't try because with my current vert i'd be slamming my messed up finger into the rim pretty hard, the one i ripped apart on that self lob 360 attempt.

good work on the jumps man..........are u gonna start boxing again soon (matches)? and since theres no Q and A do u mind if i ask random lil questions every now and then cause im still learning? first one, wats the diff between REA squats and jump squats?
Current highest touch = 11'4" (37"-38")
Squat = 140kg x5
             160KgX1
Weight = 97kg
Height = 6'3"
Reach = 8'2"-8'3"

well i want to compete in boxing ya, but i have no gym right now except for this free week.. i have to figure something out.. i mean i could just go fight in amateurs without gym access, who knows.. preferably i'd have gym access to get in some sparring/heavy bag work, that prepares the body well for boxing, without it, im just doing shadow boxing/sprints/bball dribbling/bw exercises.. not as effective :/

ya np..

REA = reactive.. it has a freefall component, meaning, you start in standing position and then 'freefall into say, a above parallel squat position.. this results in a very brief impact, but that brief impact recruit significant motor units, because of the load on your back, you then reverse it as fast as possible.. so it has you absorbing an impact AND then overcoming it.

with jump squats, resetting between reps, there's no impact, so that extremely fast motor unit recruitment doesn't happen, but this is easier on the body, ie, it takes its toll less on the joints etc.. the only impact absorption you get is after you jump and land, but thats into a pretty tall position.. REA has you absorbing/overcoming in a lower position, really recruits the quads/hams/glutes hard.

rebounding jump squats are similar to REA, except always done alot lighter and the angle is again not as deep as REA..

REA can be done from 30-70% 1RM.. jump squats anywhere from 25-40% 1RM.

both help improve RFD, except one is a little bit more effective due to the big impact forces needed to be overcome (REA).

Cool man. Ive been wondering about the REA squat lately. Actually ever since I read somewhere that you recommend REA and depth jumps for warmup before squatting. I like that thought.  ;D
