won't be posting this on IG: zombie apocalypse home defense.

eh.

POF P415 Edge - 5.56 AR-15, 30 round magazine.

POF (Patriots Ordinance Factory - lol) makes very high end stuff. Gun enthusiasts consider them Ferrari-level gun making. I think they were the first company to bring the gas-piston system (ie ak47) to ar-15's. Guy who owns the company (trumper fuck) comes from the aerospace industry and makes incredibly reliable/durable weapons. ie, in meltdown tests (non-stop firing thousands of rounds), their stuff holds up far better than most. Couldn't even find a video if it failing. Most stuff catches on fire and/or melts eventually, and stops shooting. POF owner has some incredible videos breaking down the internals of the guns they make - the difference maker for me on which rifle to choose.

still need to get some stuff for it: mounted flashlight, good sights.

also need to get a suppressor. in the unfortunate event that I ever have to use it (or any other gun), don't want to blow my dog's eardrums out (legit concern eh). that's a legit FBI background check, takes months to get. legal in FL as long as you pass that check.

got it a few weeks ago. took 3 weeks to ship just cause of all of the crazy shit going down.

was wondering how i'd "feel" with a rifle like this in the house. feel even better than expected. crazy.

america is fucking dangerous. :/

remember that horn worm i posted weeks back? it turned into a giant moth.

incredible. blew my mind when i saw it, it's enormous.

this photo is the moment i saw it trying to 'escape' the container.

also ig post with some of the old photos of it as a horn worm:

something just didn't seem right w/ the moth.. so i've been researching it, and i think I found it: it needed something to climb, otherwise it can become crippled.

as soon as i read that, I ran out, found a twig, propped it up in there, and helped it climb up the twig. it kept falling off until finally, it started hanging on good, and climbed up. now it's just hanging from there. so I think that was the missing ingredient.. it just needed to do some "pullup holds" to strengthen it's arms, and let it's wings expand etc.

now i'm feeling better about it survivng. whew.

Quote
When the butterfly or moth is about to emerge from its pupa, which may be several days or several months later, generally this will be signaled by a color change a few hours ahead of time. The emergence is very rapid (turn away and you may miss it), but afterwards the adult will spend a couple of hours stretching out and drying its wings. Amazingly, the adult does this by pumping blood through the veins in the wings, but then sucks the blood back into its body so the veins become hollow air-filled tubes – that’s why butterfly wings don’t bleed when they get torn. It will need something to crawl up and hang from during this process so the wings can fully expand, or it may be crippled. you should provide a twig or other rough-textured vertical surface suitable for climbing – at a pinch a crumpled paper towel in the container can provide enough clearance.

the moth is crippled. wings were messed up because it didn't have anything to hang from when it came out of the dirt. really sucks.

i've been giving it water. haven't been able to feed it.

until now. just fed it. was quite the experience. it sucked the honey-water out of my hand for literally 10 minutes. he was relaxed, not trying to escape, just suckling this honey-water out of my hand. :wowthatwasnutswtf:

then the little doof rolled his tongue back around his arm.. so i had to help him unwind it and get his arm out.  :uhhhfacepalm:

bad photos but.. hard to take photos when doing this:

that big "wire ish thing" is his tongue (proboscis).

first photo was me adding more honey, but didn't have water in it .. so had to rush back over to the faucet to mix it with water.. it doesn't like pure honey. def prefer honey mixed with water.. that's what finally got it to unravel the proboscis.. well, that and i jammed the proboscis into it to get it sticky & entice him to eat. it worked.

i've tried giving it fresh cut flowers, honey in a sponge (some advice somewhere), honey in hand, honey on ground etc.. good old fashioned honey+water (& hunger?) out of palm did the trick.

long story short: moth was lifeless. i unraveled it's proboscis, which had life in it. so i stuck it in some honey water. about an hour later.. it "came back to life".

i mean i should just end it's misery, but i also kinda want to see if i can make it strong. it did lose a leg tho :/ back leg.. probably from malnutrition :< it can still move ok.

but yea last night, basically nursed this thing back to life for over an hour.. was pretty crazy. it's been doing good all day.. and i've been feeding it alot more.

what i learned is.. just need to put the honey-water in a paper towel, have it's tongue unraveled and dipped into it, and then just let it suck that sugar for as long as it can.

eeh.

video of it suckling honey-water out its proboscis:

yo. oh i see. yea my thoughts here are that running long distance is going to decrease explosiveness, so going off 1 foot may be better because it relies less on pure strength/explosiveness. thanks

cool.

yea dno. you have alot less time to generate force in a slrvj. dlrvj u can spend more time on the ground and generate force. long distance running reduces your RFD. so dlrvj might actually be better, theoretically. however, in practice, i think the slrvj motor pattern is more similar to running, so it gets some transfer. regardless, if you slrvj or dlrvj while running long distance, you can still keep your jumps respectable. i mixed running & max effort slrvj's for a little bit, and my slrvj was going up nicely - with no strength work other than lunges. so, "proper" strength work in addition to running + jumps, should be able to keep jumps up - obviously not peak but enough that keeps things interesting.

running also gives you some "good elastic qualities". just need the strength & rfd work as complementary work, and you can keep jumps up or improve them in the case of less trained people.

most long distance running athletes get in some good speed (sprint/stride work) occasionally to keep from turning into mush.

2nd moth. this one was completely healthy.

saw it on my screen. gave it a light touch to see if the wings worked. it extended them and pooped all over the place. then i put it on my finger. it just sat there flapping it's wings very fast. took it out side. stayed there for a few minutes. then it flew off.

bw = 144

light run: 50 min
- mostly grass
- felt decent
- body is feeling "hot" hours later .. either it's reacting to having not run in so long, or i'm getting sick. hoping the former.
