ya that's a nice park, full court games get pretty hype there.

haven't been journaling lately, but still doing some lame workouts. not putting much effort into it. Ran 8 miles a week or so back, then 4 miles a few days ago with some fast runs (surprisingly fast), and then ran 5 miles today with some fast runs (slower, legs dead from a few days ago).

just crazy how fast a body detrains.. sucks ass.. motivation has alot to do with it though.

motivation/focus is #1.

i realize now more than ever, that my biggest gains really happen when i'm focused/motivated on another level.. methodology is important, but not as important as having that internal drive. I don't see myself having that drive in the near future, but, I may want to be in good shape for some mile races in December, so I have some time to get back on track.

Also, facebook keeps bothering me every day.. all it does is show me memories of jumping/dunking. It showed me these pictures recently:

It does this all of the time heh.. kinda depressing

Awesome photos.

100% agree with the motivation factor. I've been slacking with it as well. I hope you get your drive back soon  :ibrunning:

Thanks Mutumbo. Fun times. 8|

Just got done dribbling my bball for 2.5 hours straight while listening to some trance (or whatever genre it is). Probably going to do more of that. I can really zone out while getting a good conditioning + skill workout.

Always freaks me out, it's as if I never stopped dribbling my basketball. Like riding a damn bike. ;f

fun.

just paid off my student loans from 2006+

should have done this a long time ago.. but just let it sit there, paying itself off every month, allowing the interest to pile up.

feel great now. one less payment to worry about. going to suck seeing that money deduct from my bank account, but it's worth it. Every month the interest was enough for ~3-4 days of food.

GOOD RIDDANCE.

and Navient sucks. They purchased my loan provider, and switch over 6 months ago.. couldn't even restore the payment history (of the many years) in the UI. And they have been sued by the gov several times for screwing over students etc.

I am now officially debt-less.  :wowthatwasnutswtf:

this was from yesterday, forgot to click Post:

reading: walked + fast runs

felt pretty good.. feeling alot stronger lately. I think it's mostly due to the fact that i'm doing standing desk 100% & not eating too much.

feeling better physically + mentally.

sitting = the devil.

I gave in for too long and got lazy, sitting or lying down while coding & such. Getting back on my game, standing up + computing -> burn some calories, get the blood pumping more, strengthen up more, move around, and go nutz.

every time i train after having spent a lot of time sitting i end up injured, it's so predictable.

do you have a specific standing desk or are you just improvising?

nah, always improvised. I need to actually do some better improvisation soon. I had the best setup at my previous job, had a box i'd carry around a plop onto people's desks/etc, and it was always the correct height.. some coffee machine box. Allowed me to have a super light weight portable standing desk :d

walk + read + short fast run:
- 9.5 mi
- fast runs: ~6x, mostly ~0.1-0.15 mi. One of the 0.15mi was @ ~4:40 so that's cool.

legs felt dead from the start, still not recovered from last long walk/read/run.

walk/read/run:
- ~10 mi
- had a nice 0.22 mi @ ~4:50 pace in there
- ~hit 15.5 mph at some point
- left knee bugging a bit after the run .. but i also kneeled down to stretch my quads, which seemed to aggravate it more

haven't done one of these in a while.

had some ~easy 0.33 mi @ 5:5x towards the end too.

definitely in better shape right now than the last ~3 months. so that's kind of cool. The walking + standing desk + intervals runs are a good stimulus.

I like my walk+read+run approach. So tired of just "running". With this style, I can relax and read a ton of stuff, and get some intervals mixed in. As far as enjoyment, there's no comparison to non-stop running etc (for me). Hopefully going to just keep this up for my training strategy this time around. Less pain, more fun/enjoyable. Who knows if it'll help me improve my mile to sub-5 official, but I do think it's possible. I know it won't prepare me for a good 5k though, that's for sure. I need to get my ~400m runs down to ~4 min/mi pace, so that I can have the reserve power to make my ~5 min/mi pace easier. So my power is lacking right now.

If I do some 5k races in ~September+, i'm just going to run the first mile as hard as possible then shut it down and relax.. lmao.

So I guess if I have running goals, it's my 1-mile time and specifically those 1-mile races in December.. 5k is just too much torture for me at this point in my life.  :ninja:

Also, I want to get my walk+run+read sessions up to 5+ hours on occasion .. want to see how I feel with REALLY long sessions. I wanted to do that tonight but started too late. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

finally back under 160 it seems.. 158 the last few days. eating like a mouse but feel good.

right big toe callus (on the bottom left) is back - from the walking/running i imagine .. had to file it down. this thing sucks. annoying how the body can do something to protect something else, but cause all kinds of pain/issues. not sure why it's callusing up.

might go for a really long walk/read/run today.. been looking to push past 3 hours..... could be the day.

bw = 159 lb

walk/read/run:
- 12.09 mi in 3h:06m:04s
- mostly light/moderate runs mixed in, rained out, slippery .. and quads were sore/dead
- still felt good though
- lots of reading on crypto stuff, matrices, sat/smt solvers
- several runs over 0.25 mi (400m), a few around 0.30 mi .. ie one run was 0.31 mi @ 5:40 min/mi pace

man i am dead. quads are toast. feet sore.

edit:
- also a 1 hour dog walk (with poop/pee/sniff stops) prior to the session.. probably about 2 miles.

walk/read/run:
- 14.72 mi in 3h24m56s @ 13:55 min/mi pace
- felt really good .. but started too late (7:30 AM). I woke up at 5 AM, should have started around 5:45-6 AM.
- eyes burning bad: reading became almost impossible @ mile 7.. sweat in my eyes is fine, but I think the sun made it burn.
- best interval was my 2nd where I pushed it: 0.28 mi @ 4:55 min/mi pace
- overall decent.. need to get more of these under 5 min/mi "easier" like I was doing come last December.
- had some surprising runs, barely pushing it at all and still sub-6 or mid 6's, felt good.. i guess the surprising one was the 0.37 @ 6:45 min/mi, was really dead and just coasting, so, happy about that.
- i usually feel my right hip flexor/adductors late in the session, just seems tighter than my left.

4th straight day waking up at ~4:30 - 5 AM :f

watermelon before the session

walk/read/run:
- ~15.6 mi in ~4h12m
- cracked the 4 hour mark: seemed like i could have walked longer, felt good.
- started at 6:30 AM, should honestly start these at like 5:30 AM ...
- lost ~6-7 lb. of water
- basically two sessions:
-- first 6 miles, speed intervals with walk back rest.. drenched, killed me.
-- last 9 miles: walking with light runs mixed in to keep the legs loose
- alot of the initial speed work was under 5 min/mi pace, which is what I wanted .. but needs to be closer to 4 min/mi pace with the same form (running form)

a bit sunburned.. eyes tired af.. legs/body pretty dead.

overall good session.

saw this lizard at like mile 12:

probably going to train again Thursday .. maybe a shorter session. Then train again on Sunday - might go to the beach. Get there real early and just do my stuff on the roads/sidewalks there, or maybe on the beach itself.. dno. Sounds fun tbh.
