You know, I was thinking about the "ball wax thing"... why should ball grip be a limitation for dunking? If you want to see how high you can get, you shouldn't be put down because you used ball wax. That shouldn't be an issue. If you jump 8 inches lower because you feel the ball is slippery, how is that "cool" in any way, why should you struggle because of that?

So I don't have a problem with guys using ball wax when dunking. I've used it in the past but it made dunking "artificially". Hard to explain, but I would get "lazy" when using ball wax. Without the ball wax, I would have a "rhythm" about my run-up that I didn't have when I used ball wax, I moved differently. Interesting.

ya i don't mind it either.. unless people 'lie about it', that's annoying.

i still think lobs are more fun anyway, so palming a ball/using wax are futile at that point.

lobs are similar to wax.. many people don't respect lobs. "but can you do that off of a dribble???" etc etc. someone will always whine about something though.. "but can you do that in a game?!?" ... "but can you shoot a jump shot?!?"

must suck to think like that.

First of all... What is ball wax? Is it stickum? Or something better? I don't think stickum is that helpful...

i dno tbh, I just hear people talk about using it.. and people who use it, can palm balls easy. Raptor would know best.

Quote
Personally I think it all depends on why you like dunking. For me the best dunks follow the Michael Jordan rule for dunk contests: must dribble, no lobs, no traveling.

I can appreciate other dunks though, I just appreciate them in context. I don't love self love where the athletes goal is dunking from as high as possible because it's just a jumping contest at that point... I like jumping high but really dunking can be so much more multi-dimensional as a sport than just jumping ability. Jordan Kilganon certainly can't jump as high as Daniel Kabeya but he is a much better dunker. I can get my hair to the rim but I can't do a BTL dunk on an 8 foot hoop. I appreciate the skills Dunkers have as much as their ability to jump.

That said my list of dunk impressiveness goes "no travel dunks" >>>> "partner lob" > "self lob" >> traveling dunks >>>>>>> partner hold.

I prefer partner lob slightly more than self lob because it is a more realistic part of the game but I think the self lob is a really valuable tool that I wish I had and allows you to really get good dunk practice. Any lob is better than the Dunkers where people run the length of the court w out dribbling... Michael Jordan's ft line dunks were so cool cause he didn't travel.

https://youtu.be/sUz3ZYfoNxo

every time I see MJ, it reminds me to go watch some James White videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR2XFpaoOxo

ya no traveling on that kind of dunk/distance is ridiculous.

Quote
But the worst dunk of all time is this new partner hold bs. Where the guy holds the ball on his head, his partner boosts up on the ball to climb over his back and then dunks it. I mean.... Cmon! This isn't a dunk! This is literally climbing a wall and dunking!

i keep seeing people mention that but I haven't seen that many extreme cases of it. ie, when Myree does it, I don't really see a boost. But maybe these h.s. kids are doing that in dunk contests? Boosting up on the ball while it's atop someone's head sounds weird/risky/painful for the person holding the ball. odd

i imagine they get more boost doing the pushoff (from the shoulders) dunks though.

as far as dunk contests go, I personally prefer lobs. I like seeing more vert. I also like seeing how the lob itself can change everything, ie, a bad toss, low toss, high toss, etc.

a lob is kind of like the 'rabbit' that dogs chase in dog racing.. can bring more out of you. more speed/power/vert etc. :ninja:

imho, you don't see these kinds of dunks off of a dribble.. unless it's from VC maybe.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hvZ_2RJ5uM

crazyness.. I was searching for his high lob btl, where he catches it basically above the rim but somehow still BTL's it.. can't find it. that is such a mind blowing dunk. I think he did it in that jordan brand contest.. no luck.

last night's sleep: ~8 hours
last night fell asleep: 2 AM
wakeup = 11 AM

Session: Evening

5 PM
- wasn't going to run today, was going to do some light sprint stuff.. hence my eating sucking
- eating too light + running = cramping

warmup:
- nice warmup
- swings, light stretch, jump rope ~4 x 300

run:
- 0.5 mi in 3:07
- CRAMPED, death cramp

the rest of these numbers could be off, watch had some weird data

run 2:
- 0.14 mi in 39s
- forefoot

run 3:
- 0.2 mi in 1:13
- forefoot

run 4:
- 0.15 mi in 48s
- forefoot

run 5:
- 0.20 mi in 1:08
- forefoot

jumps:
- weak
- highest ~10'3
- left hip bugging while jumping, bleh

run 6:
- 0.23 mi in 1:21
- forefoot

run 7:
- 0.15 mi in 48s
- forefoot

:raging:

on a few of those runs.. I actually had to stop because I felt a cramp near my "chest/heart".. which is odd.. can't say I can remember ever feeling that. It felt so weird that I stopped immediately.. I got it during my forefoot runs.

Tomorrow i'll eat my normal peanutbutter + bread, and beet+cherry juice drink prior to running.. that usually makes me feel nice and full, it's a decent source of calories. Curious to see if I cramp up at all tomorrow. Though, I plan on running "steps". The chest cramp was pretty freaky, I don't want to mess around with that.

Though, if I do croak while running, we can link it back to this post.

i think I found a really nice way to loosen my hips.. standing, split legs out to the sides, lock legs so that glutes/quads/tfl relax.. then in that position, dig into the TFL/glutes (DEEP) via knuckles.

dno, feels REALLY good walking around afterwards. hip, adductor, glutes feel really loose.

Mate I have found this one to be incredible for opening up the hips. A reminder to myself to do this one every night.

re: grip assistance on lobs. i have very limited experience, obviously. but judging on the weekend before last, when i did 20+ attempts and back-ironed or pushed the ball past the rim on a bunch of them, having the ball stick to my hand a little better might have enabled me to control the ball enough to push it down.

How are they gonna do that? And why would they do it anyway. Hilary is great for the establishment, meaning she's great for the Republicans.

I have no clue but supposedly since trump already has the nomination pretty much, they want to have republicans change to dems in california to vote for bernie and if he wins the delegates then he beats her. I'm sure theres a lot more involved but I skimmed through it.

cool but, sounds like a "stop trump & hillary" move. Bernie beats Trump in most polls.. Trump vs Hillary is a toss up apparently. So the only thing that makes sense as to why republicans would vote for Bernie, is if they would rather vote for Bernie in the general... especially since apparently ~40% of bernie supporters say they will vote for Trump if Hillary is the nominee. Though, I think that's just a threat to scare establishment dems. If you believed that ~40% poll, you would hope to god Hillary becomes the nominee so that Bernie supporters flock towards Trump.

Trump is going to upset lots of supporters.. he's already walking back the muslim ban, talking about taxing rich people, and entertaining raising the minimum wage to $15.. lulz. He'll say anything to get elected, more so than Hillary.

And fuck hillary is annoying.. now she's saying she supports the public option, but, for people over 55. She just can't commit. Incrementalism is boring. ;f ... Regardless, that's good progress for her to come around on that issue. Good sign. ;f

- staying away from hip flexor right now.. stupid thing hates me

shortly after finishing running.. a few toes on my right foot started hurting. possibly strained em` a little bit. they've gotten better, hurt much less right now, but they might bug me tomorrow. if so, probably shouldn't run. hehe.

always something ;d

on a programming note: github announced unlimited private repos for personal use.. this is awesome. spent some time reorganizing stuff into more repos, to clean things up etc.

your respect is probably most impressive though.. considering how many times you've been down voted.. :ninja: if you took those down votes away, you'd probably be over 9000.

i was going to mention that my previous journal page was 420.. but i'm not a weed smoker. I know someone else must have thought about it though.

Same here, I was also wondering whats the connection between 420 and weed.
