soreness = legs, calfs, hips, back, quads, forearms.. HEH!
aches/injuries = none, hand was good today!

i've been doing LOTS of stretching.. havn't been journaling it, but, i think now i will... i'll just put a headline of "stretching" to indicate that I stretched. It's really helping with tennis.. feeling REALLY loose, getting lots of pop on my shots without muscling anything.

Session:

tennis:
- 2 hours
- best hitting yet
- finally able to generate top spin on demand
- shots are becoming less flat, obviously with my new focus on top spin
- moving around was a bit uncomfortable but you wouldn't be able to notice it, if you were looking at me.. typical body wrecked but able to move fine.

there were several backhands I had to chase down and "dink back" because I had no leverage.. but, this is a reason I want to develop my left. I'm a natural lefty, so, I should be able to hit those shots with my left, if I need/want to. It's been a slight focus of mine to develop my left, but, I really need to focus MORE on it. It would be a significant weapon if I could turn a weak retreating/reaching backhand into a powerful forehand. I might run tonight, then go work on my left-only.

I should work on my left every night HEH!

will fill in more later.

ya.. should be fun! hoping to be much better by oct 31. won't have my lefty ready for probably 3-6 months though, or more.. dno

I'm doing a research project based on 'rear/mid/forefoot strikes' in running, we have access to all kinds of cool video analysis/force plates/emg stuff...

I need to think of some kinda specific things to do the study on and know you're into this kinda thing so any ideas?

cool! i dno.. i've always wondered about 'forward vs backward' variations of depth drops/jumps. maybe that would be interesting? ie, off of a low box (~12-18"), some key differences between depth drops, depth jumps, and stiff leg (double) rebounds dropping off the front or dropping off backwards. I've used these variations myself and prescribed them to more advanced athletes when I worked at MSC.. the backward variations are intense and really load up your calfs/hams and achilles much more significantly, from feel.

not sure if anyone has measured that. perhaps it would be somewhat unique/interesting?

that's my first idea.. if i think of anything else, i'll let you know.

^^ also maybe some kind of measurements of stiff leg ankle hops, with someone who would be fairly skilled in performing them (high jumpers). I don't think there's too much research on SLAH's, but I find them very effective at improving triple ext, strengthening the VMO, and improving reactive strength. They are intense though.

decent suggestions? or looking for something else/more info?

Great ideas man...I personally would love to do something more related to power jumping...even looking at plants or something but I think they are looking more for running! For example looking at how footwear changes foot strike or how foot strike stresses diff muscles etc....

It's frustrating cos running isn't really my thing, I just wanna jump all over the force plate and use the slow mo cams to look at my snatch but yeah, think they're looking more for simple running!

Interesting stuff on the backwards depth jumps though, never really come across those before! Something to keep in mind for when I get back into plyo stuff! They sound way less stressful on knees too...

Thanks for the ideas though, if you have anymore running related ones would be awesome!

ya less stressful on knees, more stressful on hamstrings/calfs/achilles.

jog, jump, and sprint:
- ~7 mi
- some nice jumps mixed in: L-SLRVJ has some nice pop to it
- mixing all of these things in one continuous session is weird but amazing


I think when i'm down to 160, i'll go do some jumps indoor to see where i'm at. I'd be focusing on L-SLRVJ primarily.

Was going to lift after but, didn't have enough time.

aches/injuries = right knee tendonitis (i think some of the stretching has brought it out more, but, stretching also helps it.. so, need to stretch it even more. Need to get some more elasticity in these hamstring tendons)

- got 4 games on my dad (lost 6-4). That's an improvement
- starting to figure out what I need to do in order to possibly win a match in this tournament on oct31
- my BIGGEST issue is my serve.. so, i've been settling on a low toss serve with decent power, because it's more consistent.

Ever try to wear the jumper knee strap thing?  It saved my knee in track in HS and are you still jumping high enough to dunk?

nah never wore one. This isn't patellar tendonitis though. This is more of a combo of hamstring (insertion), and vastus lateralis tendonitis. I've had it for 3 years now.

The good news is that I was able to fix one of my previous adductor insertion tears several months ago with intense stretching. That tear happened around 2009. It SEEMS like I might be able to do the same with my quad stretches and especially hamstring stretches.

I think one of the main culprits of this hamstring tendonitis feeling is from my natural GHR bench; when I was 100% focused on finally being able to do them. Sometimes i'd feel too much tension move towards the hamstring tendons, instead of the muscle. I was just so weak on those, I was doing way too many reps/holds trying to build some bionic hamstrings. I imagine I caused some tiny but significant scarring in my right bicep femoris insertion.

nah not right now. Remember I did some jumps several months ago at probably ~175 lb? I forget. Highest I got jumping off L-SLRVJ was 124", which was surprising and a good sign.

As I get lighter and in much better shape (sprints, jumps, jogging, tennis, some lifting), my L-SLRVJ should improve to the point where I can land some dunks off a lob (I think). Towards the end of my dunking 3 years ago (i think?) I started to transition into an L-SLRVJ dunker if you remember. I was running near-marathon mileage at times, and somehow was getting even more bounce out of my left leg.

pC!
