^ the 515x2 was the heaviest partial reps i did at one point. have vid but no point in showing partials squats IMO - everybody can do them heavy anyway.

oh, i assumed 90 = parallel.

i asked vag the same question a couple weeks ago, but how do your joints, etc feel training with such heavy weights and a high intensity?

Looks like a good read. I need more cardio before I go to in-depth.

Here is tonights workout. I took the whole deload week off and didn't touch a weight, do cardio, or play ball. FML

8/3/12 Friday BW=159.4

jumps ~ 30
jump squat 5x45, 5x95, 5x105
depth drop 30" 3x6
squat 5x190, 5x215, 4x245
barbell lunge 160# 3x6

confused as to why you did 30 jumps or so + jump squats + depth drops and then squatted... seems like a tooonnn of overkill. but also, do the plyos before you use weights ie: do depht drops before jump squats.

glad to see you got a job you actually enjoy (although I wish you still were an athletic coach), goodluck I hope it all works out. It's good to see you actually doing something that somewhat resembles training (running), I definitely hope you keep that up; no reason to let your health go to the wayside. Honestly though, since you're done with jumping and all, I'd love to see what you'd look like jacked ~180/10%.

You should box squat like Lance said.  Pay attention to the way it feels when lowering to the box and then try to achieve that same feeling w/a full squat.

Right now it looks like you're falling into the trap of using the mirror and safety rails to gauge your depth and achieving what you believe to be sufficient depth by lowering your upper body instead of sitting more into it with the hips.

It's almost impossible for my back to be not rounded, because I kind of have a hunch back from slouching a lot and genetics.  I find it very hard to curve my back further than that.  My lower back is flexible, upper back is not.

I agree with chrisbro. You're form is fine right up until you get just parallel, for some reason your upper body begins to lean forward. You should just try to get a good feel for how the parallel depth feels and just stop there. Squatting is A means to an end, not the ONLY means to an end; you shouldn't risk injury for a couple more inches of depth. Just add some assistance work hammering the glutes and you'll be golden... Or you could just seriously work on your flexibility and pretty much perfect your form and squat atg.. Either way just keep good form and you'll stay injury free and get results.

some questions for you:

i just read the last few pages of your log and im curious as to why you are squatting with 165 when your max is much higher?

also regarding your age, how do your joints feel training this way at your age..? im constantly worried about my knees and back being fucked from all this very heavy squatting and jumping.

saw this today, i don't know if it's been posted before. but i thought it was insane; the speed, the plant, the jump, etc.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJzZ1Wf68C4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJzZ1Wf68C4</a>

I thought that guy looked an awful lot like Tobias Harris. (The first guy who dunks). I ate dinner with him and some guys the other night. Cool dude.

I'm 99.99% sure that is tobias. they both went to the same school, have similar frames/builds, and both wore 12.

edit: you ate with him recently? who else did you eat with? did you talk to him about being in the league? do you play ball?

[135x8][185x6][225,275x4][325x2][365,385,405x1]

Jump Squats - Light 20%
- 95 4x5

Jumps
- SVJ 2 hand dunks

* friday/sat/sun consecutive squat days and i was able to pause rep 405x1. they all felt the same. not very heavy but heavy enough that i know that 425x1 pause is going to be very challenging. BW still at 174lb (2.3BW Paused Squats). Will need a skipped day in between without a lot of max effort jumping to get into 425x1 Paused again (2.44BW). i will do that and tuesday - i will be strong again. will lower max height jump squat reps so i can repeat the training without it tiring me too much.
* 20% jump squats not for max height. did them for depth and smooth force absoption on the landings. did a pick up game and some SVJ dunks afterwards. this is a maintenance workout followed by a skipped day tomorrow. lots of whey protein, sleep and recovery cycling.

are those pause squats full squats?

and why have you been in such a long maintenance period?
