Wild... just not into it anymore eh? Moving on to.... something eh?

Genuinely interested for the next episode, whatever it might be.

Haven't seen any YT vids from you in a while so was curious what was up.

Probably started making a killing with your fiver career... chewing people out fr five bucks a pop, or maybe booked with dates from your christian mingle profile or whatever lol...

Dang, this thing got big... no notifications for me...

Lance I agree... when I said bands are superior, I mean to say that bands accommodating weights are superior to dead weight alone.

The resistance curve of bands alone is too steep to accommodate a lifters more natural strength curve.

In cases where pure band strength would be used I think supplemental exercises can be done to compliment it.

Thus I would still say that - pure band exercises + supplemental exercises > non band exercises alone.

In this case someone who perhaps didn't have access to weights but only to body weight and bands could get the accelerated eccentric benefits of the bands in addition to their body weight exercise benefits.

A person having access to a full gym and bands would be better off using accommodating resistance.

Perhaps there is something to be said for pure band resistance retraining the strength curve itself to be steeper...

But that's kind of another thread... or maybe not.

What I intended in my first statement was accommodating resistance.

I'll have to read the rest of this later.

Bands increase the eccentric velocity and thus require the trainee to stabilize and produce more reversal power.

Bands used as accommodating resistance allow the strength curve to follow closer to the actual strength curve of the lifter... lighter resistance at the bottom of the lift, and gradually increasing to accommodate the strength curve.

Dead weight alone, due to inertia, gets lighter as it ascends allowing muscles to exert less force through the range of motion.

Bands also reduce the decelerating affect that dead weight has. If you squat fast you have to slow down or the weight flies off your shoulders. With bands the increased resistance at the top of the lift allows you to accelerate better even to the end of the lift.

@Avishek I'd be interested to see your results of over-speed training with the bands to produce faster contraction speeds.

In the end any resistance training stimulus wills slow the actual movement, but may increase the neural signals which will result in increased ability for explosive movements.

I bought the power jumper and was very excited about it, but just didn't get into it.... but I'm told it takes a while to get the feel for it.

I like heavy bands for squats, squat jumps, and lots of other lifts.

IMO in the resistance training world, bands provide a superior stimulus.

[correction, by "bands" I mean bands accommodating dead weight as the strength curve would be too steep with bands alone]

$ick twist rofl...

I tried this and destroyed it first shot... but then I realized I was wearing my hologram bracelet.

Took it off and had no chance.

I read your stuff on ltmps but need to read it with greater detail... interesting stuff.

I think single leg work might be a way to get that high frequency work in as well...

But it seems that (based on your sig about rat adrenals)... that the idea is to get a greater adrenaline response...

Is this the main purpose or is it more to provide low impact muscle stimulation to as many MU as possible and ovoid any OTraining...?

I have the article instapapered to read it more thoroughly ... but you'd still need to initiate that adrenal response before you were able to benefit from it in routine training right?

Basketball / Re: How good are NBA players?
« on: May 12, 2011, 11:26:08 pm »
Depends on the player...

Not being facetious... but some players who have spent time in NBA have some fantastic skill and promise but... IMO just don't have 'it.'

On the other hand those staple players who can put numbers and play competitive game in game out... even at the college level just have a court sense, confidence, and a way of applying their skill sets to situations that makes them on a different level.

sick vert, real props for you putting that up even though I'm still kinda confused why you didn't have a vid over like 4 years lol

At that point (5 years ago) I wasn't aware of the vertical jump underground / online following etc on youtube, nor was I tech saavy AT ALL.

I'm going to get a tripod though and start doing more...

Judging by the positive response I should have been doing this a long time ago, even though didn't have footage of my "best" stuff...

Here's a dunk video from a bit back...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdlDC8MifKU

This is just a funny vid but kind of cool.

You do realize that if you didnt arch your back so much and look up while you were in the air, you'd be less than an inch away from the rim?

Might have been a bit closer... although I want to hit it on the rim... it gets a bit unnerving when you get close it it... you kind of "wince" a bit.

I need to do a lob dunk and get the same height... that rim will snap off if I hang so the dunks on it aren't as cool... I don't like to dunk without a bit of rim bangin. But if I break this one they will be ticked at me... this is the only place they really play from the area.

Brief story of this vid...

So... I was going to hold out until I was back in my "prime" which was when I was 24 - 25, but let's just say Andrew and good friends at ADARQ convinced me to leak a progress vid. lol...

I'm just a hair shy of 6'4 and this is rim is 10'... I measured it with my handy tape measure.

Next vids I'll post vids of me measuring the rim so that doesn't have to be an issue but it should be pretty clear it's 10'.

I think my head is 2-3 inches from the rim.. which makes this a 41-42" jump but of course some will have a different opinion.

I'm hoping to beat my old bests soon, and I'll get more vid as well.

Thanks for any support.

The below guy actually has some really good jumps... he's a super nice kid, so be nice please.

Fast forward to get through his long testimonial and into the dunks.

IF he could jump the same with the ball he'd do some sick dunks, and he's made awesome progress.
