this is exactly how i've been doing my lifting lately as well! fun, fast, efficient, and at the very least you can maintain  with a pretty load time input!

nice!

i should also add that a big drop set like 40kg x 3, 30kg x 4, 20kg x 4 (each taken to failure) also has many reps that are at or near failure

so if one subscribes to the idea that "effective reps are those near failure" well then i had plenty of effective reps in that one big drop set. so size gains are definitely stimulated. CNS gains are also stimulated by going very heavy at the start of the drop set, and via trying to fight through failure 3x in a row

Updates?

just so lazy to update my workouts. i have them on my phone though. i need to do a lot of copy/pasting and editing

been sick the last few days so strength no doubt dropped

loving training until failure for a single set. the workouts feel amazing. i stimulated the muscle without beating myself up, so i leave the gym still energized and feeling accomplished

now what i like to do though is fail 3x in a row. So I may DB bench a big dropset of 40kgx3, then 30kgx4, 20kgx4  (failing an additional rep after those) for example. That's 11 reps total yet definitely also stimulated strength gains with the very low reps, and size gains via going to failure 3x in a row on an 11 rep set (14 reps if you count failed reps).

i'm loving this way of training and i wonder how it could have worked out 10-15 years ago in my training career.

the other amazing thing is these style workouts lead to gains even if i only lift 1x per week or every 2 weeks. It used to be the case that I would lose some strength very fast if I missed a couple of workouts

"youre imagining it"

at the same time if they will somehow brush off "alternative" therapies like that one guy who found a connection between emotional suppression and bodily physical pain. he treated many patients with it

if they say we are imagining it, then accept these other forms of medicine/therapy. if you don't accept them, then tell us you just don't know the cause. you can't have it both ways

These both work out the transverse abdominis right? If so, why do they feel so different?

I can hold a dead bug and then add a stomach vaccuum on top of that. I cant wrap my brain around why this is the case if both exercises work the TA. It’s like flexing the glute and then flexing it again in a different way on top of that

Also, which of the 2 exercises is better for fixing anterior pelvic tilt?

Still have to update a few more workouts, but something i noticed using mike mentzer's training principles:

- It's nice shortening my workouts. I dont get as stressed and annoyed. Usually after a longer workout, I have to take my headphones out as I get irritated. Might be cortisol rising. With these short workouts, I don't get that. Instead I get that amazing endorphine feeling!
- I feel accomplished after these workouts
- I didn't know how far from failure I actually was. This workout is teaching me that I actually have more reps in the tank than I thought for things like calf raises, db shoullder presses, curls, etc. however, I was pretty accurate with the squats.

Thinking to do this for around a year before i switch back to traditional strength training and amping up my CNS.

Still around

Nobody can figure out my knee pain

5 physical therapists
5 chiropractors
1 hijamah expert
1 biomechanics expert
1 massage therapist
1 accupuncturist

Crazy stuff

Reading through my old posts and i miss being so strong and cut. I can still squat but not jump much else my knees act up. My dunking days are over unless someone can figure this out

Currently getting back to being serious in the gym. I barely made any net progress in like 7 years

Need to cut a bit. Im doing some bodybuilding style stuff now (which i should be primed for after doing strength training for like a decade!) maybe for a year before going back to strength training

Training via mike mentzer’s principles right now (1 set to absolute failure) and loving it

Need to start logging my workouts again!

He also gave me pregabalin, a medicine for chronic pain, to take for 2 weeks or so - maybe my body will "forget" that pain "needs" to be there. I will try.

My fear here is that you may be putting yourself in positions or movements that make the problem worse except you wont stop since you might not feel it due to the painkiller. The concept of “forgetting” the pain does sound interesting though. I dont know anything about it, would be curious to read up on it

+1 on swimming

+1 on doctors not making sense and/or not truly listening to the patients.  My wife went through crazy stuff in labor due to the doctors and nurses “following the book.” We were very happy we hired a doula to push back on them. Thats a wholeeee other topic
