if you get fouled, it doesnt count as a Field goal attempt.

thanks lbss :)

Yep, for some reason I momentarily forgot the rules of basketball when posting that comment. Chalk it up to a brain fart.

I don't happen to agree with the guy but I love that quotation.

whats the 1008 lb squatter's vert?  ccj says it 60+ standing

What really matters is, what's his SLRVJ?

What's your reach/wingspan?

The danger I was talking about is from athletes trying to wait too long to put the feet down, reaching out further than they are capable, and landing on "locked" knees.  There are many cases of this and Ive seen several at combines myself during broad jump tests.

The reason your squat hurts your knees is because your using so much forward knee travel.  In a properly performed, below paralell squat, the glutes feel like they almost completely take over until about midway up.  You are essentially performing a hip thrust up to that point if you think about it.  Your squatting technique wont permit you to drop the hips low enough below your kneecaps to experience this. When you go lower it requires even more forward knee travel, hence your increased pain.  Ive already tried to explain to you that this "pretty" squat you have in your head that a 4 foot 5  Chinese olympic lifter wearing weightlifting shoes performs is not going to be the optimal squatting position for taller, longer limbed guys like us.  Long legs, short torso, you are going to have to create some forward lean to squat correctly. Its really that simple, long torso/short legs- can stay very upright, short torso/long legs- need some forward lean.  Neither is better and neither is worse.  Whats bad is when a long leg/short torso lifter like you tries to emulate a perfectly upright torso position, causing crazy forward knee travel, or a long torso/short leg lifter tries to lean forward too much causing too much low back activity.  Their torso is a longer lever than ours, they have to keep it upright.

Good post.

This is one thing that I think Vern Gambetta gets right. His thing is basically that box jumps are fine and all cause you can get a max jump onto them with the impact of landing, work on pure explosiveness and whatever. But if you go much above 30", even for the best jumpers, you're just practicing/demonstrating core strength, hip mobility and balance on the landing. And there are much better ways to do all of those things.

You're right, I should have. I even thought about it at the time but I was kind of thrown off by it and confused, so I ended up moving on. Oh well.

Glutes and low back were sore all day yesterday from the lunges and DL. No pain, though, which is good. Just soreness.

what would jon edwards/ mike powell's slrvj be?

A lot higher than yours, zgin.  ;D

Sickest video for me is the Sotomayor jump just because I love watching him pysch himself up. So intense, closing his eyes and doing those little jerks upwards with his arms, visualizing it and then absolutely killing it...awesome.

Haha joe you're funny. My girlfriend jiggles just the right amount, though  ;D  And thanks cowed! Some bench frustration today but I think I'll have the 1.5xbw soon.

warm up
shoot hoops -- mixed bag
mobility
ankle rehab

work
trap bar DL 3x8x255 -- all reps felt fine but low back is feeling it a bit now. Got a vid, will post later.
bench 5x175, 3x185, 3x195 -- had more in me but the fucking spotter just grabbed the bar after three and re-racked it! WTF!
DB row 3x8x75 -- low back was feeling it so no BOR
circuit x4
--lunge x50 -- felt okay in stiff sneakers but I'll never be able to do these loaded cause I'm not stable enough when my left foot is back
--ab wheel rollout x10
--leg lower x10
side plank x45s/ea

cool down
stretch

EDIT Just looked at trap bar DL vid and I did 9 reps in the first set because I apparently have the counting skills of a 2-year-old.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Greetings !

I MIGHT be in the USA sniffin around NAIA, but maybe not... Getting above 50% scholarship is quite hard for me at the moment even in NAIA or D2. Track sucks when it comes to scholarships.. 50 guys in a team so you have to run like 9.9 to get a full ride.
I am hoping with 80% in a very weak cheap school with a new track program, I could get the remaining 20 off SAT scores (October) But that's a long shot.. So i'm not counting on it.

If you have any advice for me about this issue let me know !! Could International students take student loans ? Do you know any track dudes on scholarships ? Where are they and what are they running ?

I'm no expert but there are definitely plenty of D1 schools in this country that don't have a 9.9x 100m guy on them. Like, most of them. I just looked into it a bit cause you piqued my curiosity and here's a couple of stats from 2010:
--top 100m at U of Washington: 10.37
--top 100m at Penn State: 10.64
--top 100m at U of Southern California: 10.10 but second-best guy is 10.78
--apparently the standards for partial aid at Auburn in 2008 were 10.40 for a full ride, 10.60 for partial aid and 10.70 for a walk-on spot. Auburn is one of the best track schools, though. I bet other places wouldn't be as stringent.

Have you asked that specific question over on CF's forum? I bet some people there would be able to give you a really solid answer.

Yeah, Cleveland's rebuilding alright. Problem is, they've got a long way to go, especially now that the rock of their economy has taken his talents to South Beach:

could be postural though, my posture has definitely improved standing due to my glute/ab strength.

Makes sense. The guy I took yoga classes from in Chile (laugh it up, fools, laugh it up) gained two inches on his height because of how much his posture improved after starting yoga.

But if you can do 20 reps with it, it's not your 10RM, by definition.  ??? ??? ???
