Quick snippet from yesterday's footage....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX97LzCSumE

Still working on the rest. Its like 20+ mins of film, might get 4-5 out of it that's worth anything lol!

Also, debating trying the SuperFly3 or the 2 PO's as a replacement. I REALLY like the SuperFly2s, one of the best shoes for ball ive ever had. Just sucked the zoom pocket busted so quickly.

Blehhhh! It was bound to happen, shitty day lol! Spent all morning out in the heat with the kids and I believe it drained me not to mention my shoes got soaked and I developed a blister on the bottom of my left big toe. Add to that a 90+ degree gym and my SuperFly 2s popping the right zoom insole, and my left knee flaring up (I think its patellar tendinitis)..... I was completely devoid of motivation today.

All said I still took some video and I'll be damned if I didn't get super pissed at myself halfway through and had a handful of decent jumps lol! I'll post up the video later. Much stretch. Lots of ice.

:) its very, very nice lol! That's a local elementary school gym. Ypu should see some of the high schools!

Been short on updates lately so I'll make a compressed version.

Lifted normally on monday, skipped both upper body sessions on tue/thur in favor of bball skill training on tues and wed nights. Went harder than I ever have for 2 hours each night, physically drained afterwards, no energy to dunk but tried for 15 mins after each workout woth subpar results. Rested Thursday. Went and played for 2 hours this morning....was only supposed to be an hour and a half max, almost going to be late for work lol! Anyway....game was ON POINT today, laser focused, handle, jumper, everything. Crazy what dedicated skill work does!!!

Since I was/am running late for work I said I'll try 1 dunk before leaving. Easy 2 hand tomahawk off the dribble. Too easy. So I said to hell with it...one more....

...and got my first pump reverse!!!!!!!! Off the dribble no less. :D The guys said the pump was to about stomach level but idc, I'm re-motivated to train harder!!!!!

And now...I'm gonna go be late to work lol

I have to agree with Acole on this! I get very mild cases from time to time when I jump a ton in a short span (think days on end with no rest). whats always worked is scaling back jumping/pylos and, depending in severity, lightening work load in the weight room. Full out rest sounds good in theory but ive had better results personally using the methods acole suggested.

Strong post Acole!

Not bad for a first try with multiple new techniques!

It looks like to me you're slowing down still in the last step and plant, almost like you're thinking about it too much, which is probably true since its new. Few ways to combat this...one, keep going and trying to increase speed as it feels more natural (which to me only screams problems/injury) or try Toddays approach that worked/is working for LBSS. Start off at one step into your plant and drill that til it becomes second nature, then add another step. I think this would be a smarter, safer way as it allows your body to adjust accordingly and limits possible injury (imo) from doing something unnatural at high speed

Since I know Raptor will see this I'll equate it to a car...

When I go out on a new setup to the drag strip I dont go for broke the first pass (or second, third, etc). First passes are usually with the power turned down just to see how the car reacts, on the launch with suspension, traction, tires, down the track with the gearbox, chassis and alignment and brakes, etc. This allows me to fine tune the car without risking a potential large mishap due to something simple that became big when we started leaning on it.

Just my 2 pennies tho. :)

Yea....I'm an idiot. For some reason I always jump to his coaching at Kansas.

My brain and I are not cooperating lately :)

Besides....the Canadians were/are too busy hitting each other with sticks and losing teeth to flying pucks.

:D

Yea he was Canadian but he founded the sport in Kansas...can't get much more 'Merica' than Kansas. ;)

I do LBSS, shrugs, rows, some stuff before ball handling drills...but I always seem to want more grip lol! Small hands will do that too you :) I can only palm certain basketballs and even then its a chore. Better grip would definitely help on oops and lobs.

Makes sense. My thoughts are leaning towards a few reps of grip training during warmups and only strap up for a heavy single or workset. Best of both worlds maybe? I'm with you on the RDLs for PC work primarily, and since I'm quad dominant any missed reps on PC work is double the trouble.

Ive been mulling this for over a week now and look at that, I get on adarq and boom! Questions answered. Time to find my straps!

The question is...at what point are straps needed? I know it varies from individual to individual but ive found lately im focusing more on the grip than the lift itself. Thats no good imo. Even tho I want a stronger grip for ball im leaning decidedly towards using straps again.

They aren't unbeatable but....it won't be easy. You have to remember that we invented this sport and on the whole we're still a few steps ahead of the rest of the world. Take a glance at the NBA, it's the pinnacle of basketball and while there are several foreign born players look how many are 'stars'. Now take that number...divide it across the rest of earth's countries and you have 1 or 2 all stars vs a team of all stars and future HOF'ers. It's easy to see why we are dominant in that regard.

The world is closing the gap it seems and pretty soon we won't be able to send 'b' level stars and waltz our way to a gold.

Oh and to weigh in on the high jump thing....

My track coach in high school always said that if you have good form you can clear anything you can get your shoulder to. Having seen that be consistently true at meets, and knowing the bar was allllmost at 8 feet... I dont think he'll suddenly do dunks no one else can.

To clarify, its impressive! Highly. But, any of these ridiculous 1 foot dunkers could conceivably achieve this with enough training.
