i have do-win's, they are solid, a bit wide for my feet unfortunately, but they are good shoes.. pretty heavy but that's all oly shoes.. squatting in them does feel amazing.

Yeah no need to splash out if you're only doing basic exercises. My adistars are a LOT lighter than either the Do-Wins of VS Athletics that the other guys use though and they're also more breathable.

I have conversations like this with myself sometimes. I'm pretty sure I'll end up having kids with a girl who is physically attractive at the time we decide to have kids; also as (or more) intelligent/high-achieving as I am. I simply can't envision it being any other way. But will she be athletic, or have athletes in her family? Will I care at that point? At the moment I'm sure I'd like my kids to be more athletic than I am and having kids with a chick with better athletic genes can't hurt there.

Current GF is beautiful and is smart and high-achieving as hell but isn't an athlete (used to be a ballet dancer, pretty good but not pro quality). Marriage/kids with her highly unlikely but these thoughts do enter my mind sometimes.

I know you were kidding, but I'm kind of serious...

If that's the largest reservation you have about this chick then get the fuck over it :headbang: Also, don't try and force your future kids into being super athletic. Encourage them to try as many things as possible and do what they like to do as well as they can.

Even oly lifters quarter squat sometimes. We do explosive 1/4 front squats for the jerk. Normally called jerk drives.

I've always wondered why are the glutes so important if they're not really activated unless you go very deep. I mean for jumping. If when you do a 1/4 squat you use mostly quads, and in a VJ you go into a 1/4 squat, shouldn't the recruitment be very similar (meaning - shouldn't the quads count very much and the glutes very little)?

The glutes are significantly active in jumping. EMG study on depth jumps:

Unforunately all that study shows is that they either used incorrect mechanics in the squat or didn't wire the EMG the glutes up right  >:( Most other studies are showing at least equal and normally higher EMG activity in GM compared to BF during olympic squats.

400m Sprinting or Shorter / Re: Harry AA

That guy is huge! Do you think he is on the roids? most people tell me these elite sprinters are on roids, I just don't wish to believe it.

Almost certainly. You only need a little bit of knowledge like pre-med (or like me, first year biochemistry) to know how easy it is to get away with it if you can get the right stuff but knowing the right people or simply by having enough money to convince a shady anti-aging doctor to prescribe.

The only steroid hormone, however, would probably be testosterone. You can take a significant amount without failing the T/E ratio test. Only after failing the T/E test will WADA labs run the carbon isotope comparison to see if the testosterone is endogenous or exogenous because that's damn time consuming and expensive.

In addition to test they would be running HGH year round which is both anabolic and results in lower bodyfat levels in addition to massively improved recovery. Insulin post workout also helps to recover as fast as possible along with being hugely anabolic. Recombinant EPO is also undetectable and athletes will permanently run their haemocrit high to improve work capacity for sprint training.

These drugs are not incredibly expensive, nor are they exotic and they are almost impossible to detect currently. Sadly WADA, IOC et al would prefer everyone to think otherwise.

Ritalin isn't an amphetamine. Sorry for the nitpick, I'm doing biochemistry :P Otherwise what he said ^^^ I was prescribed Citalopram for anxiety/depression when I was 14 and I've managed to get down to half a tablet 7 years later. Even mild psychoactive drugs can be really easy to become dependent on.

Oh the joys of gaining an inch a month... long gone

Maybe, maybe not. If you do MSEM + shock I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-2" SVJ and a bigger increase in RVJ in a month. I gained 2" SJV and 3" RVJ on using heavy olys and light squat singles for stim while doing some light shock stuff. 12" DJs and RVJ height depth drops + RFI shit for ankle and foot strength and prehab.

Crazy Weird Analysis & Stuff :) / Re: Smolov jr "wave loading"
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:50:41 pm »
Yea the monday workout in smolov jr 6x6 is just a joke... but i can never imagine doing 4x9 with that weight. But you're allowed to take as much rest as you need to, so you can turn them into mini-breathing squats that take about a minute and a half to complete for nine reps (10sec from rep to rep).

Nah you can do it. After the first four or so reps you go on autopilot and just squat that damn weight.

they felt like bricks on my feet when i would wear them.

Adidas ones are a lot lighter than Do-Wins etc. Different wood.
