I vaguely remember you talking about this before, but why don't you squat low-bar? You could probably add a shit ton of weight right away and it's not like you're squatting deep on those max attempts now so you wouldn't necessarily be sacrificing depth.
So everyone has probably seen Maradona's famous goal against England. But maybe fewer have seen it with the original Argentine commentary. Suffice it to say, I almost put this in the "beast" thread for the announcer alone. The dude absolutely loses his mind, nothing in US sports announcing is like that. Which is a shame, cause it's awesome.
Translation of what he says (Guga can correct me if I mess anything up):
"They're going to pass to Diego, now Maradona has it, two defenders on him. Maradona touches the ball. The genius of world football starts to his right. He leaves the third behind and is going to pass to Burruchaga. No Maradona was always going to keep it! Genius! Genius! Genius! It's there it's there it's there it's there it's there and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! GOOOOOOOOAL! GOOOOOOOOOAL! I WANT TO CRY! HOLY GOD! LONG LIVE FOOTBALL! GOLAZO!* DIEGO! MARADONA! IT'S MOVING ME TO TEARS, FORGIVE ME! MARADONA, IN AN UNFORGETTABLE RUN, IN THE GREATEST PLAY OF ALL TIME, COSMIC LITTLE BARREL,** WHAT PLANET DID YOU COME FROM, TO LEAVE SO MANY ENGLISHMEN IN YOUR WAKE? TO BRING THE WHOLE COUNTRY TOGETHER IN A TIGHT FIST? SHOUTING FOR ARGENTINA! ARGENTINA 2, ENGLAND 0! DIEGOAL! DIEGOAL! Diego Armando Maradona. Thank you God, for football, for Maradona, for these tears, for this Argentina 2, England 0.
*There's no one-word translation for "golazo." It basically means "really awesome goal." **He literally calls him a "cosmic little barrel," but he means that Maradona is short and stubby.
so ya regardless, if 20 reppers make you stronger relative to bodyweight, then they improve vert.. they definitely aren't an endurance lift imo, i get stronger very fast when i incorporate 20 reppers.
How about 20 rep deadlifts as opposed to 20 rep squats?. Pro's/cons?.
You have some guys like Barry Ross who swear by deadlifting.
Not adarq but I think they'd be fine if you can keep your form. That's very hard to do with high rep deadlifts, and you'll end up just using your back.
This. For all the evidence you'll ever need that this is true, just go to your closest Crossfit gym and cringe.
Of course, it can be done. But most people fuck it up.
BW = ??? SORENESS = none ACHES/INJURIES = right calf but almost better FATIGUE = none DIET = good
-jump rope 30/30 x 15
-stretch
Just wanted to break a little sweat and get my HR up a bit. Kept it nice and relaxed but still managed to get the rope caught a few times. Frustrated and would have been embarrassed had there been anyone else around.
BW = ??? SORENESS = none ACHES/INJURIES = right calf but almost better, right hip/groin FATIGUE = none DIET = good
-warm up jump rope 30/30 x 5 mobility stuff
-pogos submax 4 x 20
-leg press x 10+5,5,5,5 hip/groin felt fine on first two warm up sets but when i went to 150 kg the tweak came back. messed around a bit but it was no use.
-BSS 3 x 3 123,123,123 == kept it nice and easy, felt hip but didn't hurt
no motivation tonight at all, mentally tired, physically tired, need to get more sleep tonight. forced myself to go to the gym and was planning to just do some light pogos and leg press and call it a day. but...
-warm up jog x 5 mins mobility stuff and some stretching
-leg press serious tweak in right groin/hip flexor on the first warm up rep. tried a few more reps to see if it would work out, but no luck. fml. called it. more stretching and some smr later.
Everyone who dedicates themselves to the barball over a considerable amount of time should be respected, regardless of size or the load that happens to be on the bar.
with flander's caveat (i.e. 20 years of doing it wrong and getting nowhere doesn't count), i agree with this. i'd actually expand it to say that long-term dedication to doing anything well deserves respect.*
I only do the standin on one leg for time thing for proprioception, but that was 2 months ago, when the ankle was worse..
that's what i'm talking about. you can mix it up, too: closing your eyes, throwing a ball against the wall, etc. i'd keep doing it, if i were you. my ankle's been healthy for months now and i still do balance stuff.
