Nice, they will be showing it on the bbc channels and online. Excited.

cool! ya me too.

Bolt not doing the 200m as he sees the risk of losing it is quite high. Should be exciting.

guh that sux.. all the more reason he should be running 200m.

100m prospects: degrasse, gatlin (little to some chance), yohan blake recovering well, new american talent and usain bolt.

Then you have van neekirk and his blasting away the competitions in the 400m and breaking records. I don't see kirani james or the american guy keeping up with him.

ya curious to see how WVN performs. that was an unreal performance last olympics.

if you have the "olympics channel", which I just found out I have, they will be showing it all on there.

given an equivalent percentage of 1RM relative to the ROM, i'd definitely say quarters feel more horrible (draining, risky): there's not much "stretch reflex", it's more of a knee driven reversal rather than hip driven, it's extremely hard to descend with speed and reverse it early - without your joints actually helping you like they do in a full squat, and you feel like you could snap in half if you go just a little bit too far down.

as far as energy goes, there's probably some good data out there - based on ROM/tempo/% 1RM etc.

you can get some really good rebound coming out of the bottom of a full squat, it feels good that's for sure. you can achieve a similar feeling with half squat as you get better with it. The game changes alot as you go up above half squats. that's assuming you're going very heavy on everything..

if you're hitting quarters/halfs with lighter loads, the movement should feel really good.

the last video in there still cracks me up.. and i don't normally laugh at fart humor.

:D

it's better to keep some of those threads growing.. they are like historical archives in and of themselves... like the beast & "whole bunch of dunks & shit" threads.

motivation zero. couldn't force myself even to warm up and stretch. odd.

vagus nerve exercise wrecked you.

adarqui gave me a hint on my depth jump video i posted on instagram and i tried to implement more arm swing and i must say the one rep i nailed it on, it really felt good and different. Will be doing more of these now with the new technique improvements. Thanks for the tip!

hah np!

Actually having some back issues myself, pounded out some cardio, 400s and upper body today. Tomorrow I'll be doing more cardio, iso's, and agility/technique work. Dunno if any of this stuff would be helpful for your training goals but just throwing some ideas out there. I had what was supposed to be a minor QL strain maybe half a year ago and I kept trying to get back in it too early and it ended up dragging the injury out into a problem that lasted over a month. Better safe than sorry

ya that sounds like a good deal if you can do those things without disturbing your injury. I cant really think of anything that's painfree for me, yea potentially upper body stuff but say even getting in position with dbs for bench press, is hard to do with a back injury. Can say the same for jumping or running stuff. I dont know. plus you cant tell which is pain you can ignore and train through and what you should safely avoid.

i had a QL strain too, waaaaaay back when i was initially learning about lifting (before becoming ex sci major).. wrecked it.. took a long time to heal, that injury sucked.

and ya the only thing i'd say you really need to be careful of, is getting into that mindset of like, being "angry" and trying to just "beat squatting as if it's some kind of war".. honestly it seems like you get into that mode.. personally, avoid that mindset at all costs. If you find yourself doing that, switch up the session immediately and AELS. Easier said than done, but, I think that mentality is really self destruction.. So just be careful with it maxent.. don't go to war with the bar in the context of overcoming an injury etc. Odds are with the bar. :/

peace!

working super hard to keep myself on teh right side of AELS. i felt hyped today for some reason but decided to err with caution. I think im listening to my body, if a set feels wrong i will def stop there and do something else. so far i have stuck to that, it's what day 9, i think i shud be okay to train normally soon.

nice!

heard a great interview today with Dr. Bennet Omalu (guy credited for discovering CTE in repeated head trauma sports).

he kept telling the interviewer/listeners basically:

"listen, you guys are not understanding.. 100% of all professional athletes in sports with repeated head trauma develop CTE.. 100%"

he was very blunt.. "all it takes is one concussion to start the process" ... "we've known this for centuries, this is nothing new. we know what happens to the brain when it receives repeated trauma"

it's interesting hearing him talk about it versus these other researchers.. he's way more direct & worried.

he believes boxing, tackle football, hockey, etc.. should not be publicly funded for anyone under 18.. ie, no tackle football in high school etc.. there's no boxing in h.s... so he says, there shouldn't be football either.

he said most of these injuries happen in practice, not in the actual games.. which got me also wondering, so many of these practices involve athletes who are dehydrated/lost significant amounts of water, I wonder if that increases the risk of brain injury?

edit: personal experience: I suffered one really bad trauma to my head in ~2003 or so.. full speed head to head collision with someone who outweighed me by like 100 lb.. i didn't get knocked out, but I did split my head open really bad.. I've always wondered if that caused some damage. I also started getting headaches after some hard sparring sessions.. The crazy thing about that is, no headaches for like say, 50 sparring sessions.. then headaches started happening out of nowhere. It freaked me out. I would have thought i'd get headaches earlier, but it was the opposite.. I was also sparring more skilled people though when I started getting headaches. I didn't take lots of direct shots, but even blocking punches can rattle your brain I imagine. I've often wondered if i've had some kind of damage to my brain.. usually it centers around being able to learn/concentrate, or just negative/depressive thoughts etc.. I felt like all of that was way better prior to say, 2009 or so.. head collision was ~2003, boxing was ~2005-2007. It's really hard to explain but basically, my mind has felt "different" than when I was younger or in college etc.. Definitely feels different now. Could just be due to aging but i dno, I don't get the vibe that these perception of "changes" are normal.. in a nut shell, it "feels degenerative". I should have gotten it checked out when I had good insurance.  :ninja:

bw = 160

still pretty sore, especially in calves/quads. surprised at this soreness tbh.. I attribute it more to the long walking than intense intervals. wanted to get in a shorter session today but that's not going to happen - too wrecked.

ordered a replacement rope for my Buddy Lee Rope Master jump rope. Now that my shoulder is healed up, if I do "running jump rope" again, I just need to make sure not to do it non-stop for a long time.. ~5 minutes or so then rest/repeat should be enough. That ~45-60 minutes non stop of running-jump-rope just wrecked my shoulder a while back, going non-stop for so long is potentially just too intense.

I like what i'm doing right now: walk/read/run with more rest than training.. but i've also wanted to utilize some other sessions as well:

- walk/read/run-sprint [conditioning, speed]
- walk/read/running-jump-rope [conditioning, speed]
- walk/read/lunges [strength]
- basketball dribbling [recovery, movement]
- jumps (at court) [vert]
- light BW exercises - potentially walk/read/calisthenics-at-park [strength]
- hills: walk/read [recovery]
  - no sprints up hill, at least not initially. wrecked my calf long ago doing hill sprints.

pretty much in that order of importance.

more recovery, no back to back days, longer sessions, hard sessions but easier mentally.

edit:

7 PM
- dead hang ng pullups: BW x 7
- full dips: BW x 10
- feel so weak.

basically will just list the country of origin and if the produce is local then they will advertise it but as far as pesticides go they don't care.

ya, that's where whole foods is dominant -> labeling. pretty much everything in there has solid labeling letting you know where it's from, how it was made/grown etc.
