Want to add some sprinting/jumping to my routine. Want to start feeling lighter on my feet. Obviously leanness is a big part of that, but, like, so is being good at movement.

Any suggestions on this front? I've retained way less of my sprinting/jump training knowledge than lifting knowledge. I guess just going to the track and making sure to do a bit of each on a 1-2xWeekly basis is all there is to it.

nice!

"just get it in when you can", preferably as part of the warmup/pre-lift routine. If you can get in some dedication sessions, even better.

you don't have to go crazy with anything for now, just getting in some submax work will be effective, frequency is important. So if you lift 3-4x/wk, that should allow you to get in some sprint/jump work 3-4x/wk as well - even if it's just a few jumps, a few sprints, or whatever. Just mix it up and do what you find most fun, for now.

Not sure if you want to come up with some rigid/strict stuff to do but IMHO just getting the movements in, submax, allows you to do all kinds of things without having to worry too much about programming, ie: warmup, some warmup sprints (10-20 yd) to get the cns firing, svj's x 10 (relaxed/walk around recovery, jump when ready), submax broad jumps x 10 (relaxed/walk around recovery, jump when ready), 5 x 60m submax (light walk back recovery), lift .. etc.. can substitute all kinds of things in there, RVJ's, SLRVJ's, controlled long jump, MR tuck jumps, DL bounds, pogo hops, 100's, 200's, etc. I'd keep it shorter/simpler to start, then after a few weeks you'll have a better idea of what you want to add/remove/mess around with.

dno just some thoughts.

haha!! Chad Johnson's daughter is a BEAST.

http://www.flotrack.org/article/58951-cha-iel-johnson-ochocinco-s-daughter-is-nation-s-fastest-12-year-old#.WaqyHneGPfA

12 years old dropping 59.34 in 400m (PB 56.48?), 800m in 2:14, and her first ever 1500m race was 4:47.92..

Just from watching one interview with her, she seems extremely aggressive. Little pit bull.

First week of school has been pretty vicious. I'm also going to try to keep my part-time job for the time being. But I planned the weekend out and I have 15 FUCKEN hours of homework. I have practice Sunday and because it's a 45 minute drive that's half my day right there. I was expecting the first week to be easy cruising but apparently not.

eek.

getting in some training between all of that homework can be good though, give your mind a break and just go hit teh iron or get some sprints in etc..

So pretty much my motivation is drained and it will take me a little while to get used to this new regime. I see what most of you guys have to deal with working 9-5+whatever life stuff tho, lol. Hopefully my willpower will adapt as the semester goes along.

ya 9-5's can be very draining .. i can't recall ever being able to train properly when putting in full time (40+) hours per week. that's something I need to address eventually, or just keep working part time (preferred option).

GOOD NEWS is my team's great performance at the last tournament earned our area an extra bid to regionals (6 teams from the MD/VA area will advance to the next level instead of 5). We were aiming to cinch the #5 spot but this makes it a whole lot easier.  :)

nice!!!

just super demotivated

you're going to get motivated again, no doubt .. so just try and minimize the damage as much as possible from this life-overload - easier said than done. But getting in some brief hard training sessions can be good on your brain amidst all of the homework/studying etc, to break things up. you have that important tournament coming up soon too right? don't overdo it, but also stay focused!!

peace!

bw = 155
soreness = not much, calves barely, edit: shoulders moderate (jump rope)
aches/injuries = right big toe blister, right knee slightly after flexing my knee fast - went away later
cns = dead

wokeup = 8:30 AM!!!
- 2 days in a row, progress

feel better than yesterday, but just dead.. needed complete rest.

ate lots of bananas today & had a smoothie at whole foods. Also ate beans/avacado/serrano/milk+protein etc

soleus stretch:

my soleus stretch is godlike. I need to describe it tomorrow. It's so simple you can even do it while washing dishes. Really loosening up my soleus better than my other stretches. Been doing it the last few days.

tmw I might:
- morning: jumps!
- evening: track

that's the plan for now!

just watched the fight again with my dad, because he's one of those people who think Conor/Floyd had an agreement not to hurt each other for the first 5 rounds - which is based off of nothing, just maybe his WWE watching.

anyway watching the fight a second time, it was still enjoyable. I've never "laughed" so much at a fight. I mean I cracked up when Conor countered Floyd, when Floyd would just casually tee off on Conor, when Conor did all kinds of crazy hammerfist stuff, when Conor hit Floyd with a good body shot & Floyd acted like he got hit to the nuts, when the ref pushed Floyd, when Conor cheap shotted Floyd after the low blow warning, and when Floyd was just walking Conor down at the end trying to end his life.

lots of laughing.. because it really was a circus, but a very enjoyable one.

I think it was round 8 where Conor dug deep and got off some great shots on Floyd. Here he was, completely dead, and he pulled some great combos/shots off and was effective. To me that is so impressive considering the state he was in.

Maybe the most impressive thing when re-watching it though, is how relaxed Floyd is. I mean it was apparent watching it live, but it's even more impressive watching it again. Floyd is just so relaxed, focused, powerful, fast, patient, etc. At no point in that fight did I see him look tired, worried, impatient, etc. That experience, composure, skill is the biggest take home point people should have from this event.

Also, Floyd basically taught alot of MMA fans about boxing punching vs MMA punching .. MMA punchers try and learn to improve their boxing etc, but even a guy with some of the best striking in MMA didn't look anywhere near as fluid/clean/powerful/relaxed/fast as Floyd, IMHO. I mean it's pretty evident from the footage. Conor landed some good shots but Floyd's shots had real sting, even if he was barely putting anything behind them. Some of Floyd's shots toward the end were just so clean and effortless, yet just cracked Conor so hard. Floyd's probably thrown 10 million more punches than Conor...

Also, Conor was wrecked at the end. LOL at people who thought he was fine. He was completely toast. When you see an early stop where the guy is fine, he gets the ref off of him real quick. Conor laid on those ropes with the ref for like 60 seconds. Smart move by him making people believe he was getting ready for his second wind for rounds 11/12 lmfao. People already talking about "would Conor win in a rematch?!!?" LFMAO.

Finally, look at how much we talked about a "hybrid circus fight"... Definitely makes sense that this broke every record, just given our discussion on it.

Exactly about the last point. This ppv defines floyd as boxer. People love floyd and watch his fights but alot of people hate him and therefore tune into see someone hopefully defeat him as for this ppv it was soo bad it was actually gaining attention regardless if it was bad or not just the fact that the people were talking about like in this thread, we talked about how bad this fight was, what each said what ridiculous statement each made. So ye it makes sense how it broke records and I understand now based on your other reply that this is actually good for boxing because you are getting more viewers. A big problem in a lot of sports is when they involve politics and make it more business than entertaining the fans.

I have to disagree with the above statement. If you remember the image I posted, which I will post below. but ofc it wasn't intentionally but it definitely looks half on the belt and half below.

ya that is def a bit low .. Floyd probably tried to play it up a bit to recover, that was a good punch.

But it is entertaining to watch, would have loved to see the floyd of old add more slickness and accuracy. But without that it was still entertaining. But conor had good head movement making floyd miss, which ofc the floyd of old would have hit it. but ye.

OMG plz no rematch lol.

yeah please no rematch. I imagine there could be several rematches.. Conor is great at selling himself and could give people hope each time. Would be funny if they end up having like 5 fights, all billion+. Everyone paying because "ok this time he's got it". lmao.

jay schroeder mentioned in the description .. eek!

IMHO, looks weird. I wouldn't ever want to do that. It's impressive in the sense that someone is overriding their instincts which are probably telling them not to do something like that (driving into the ground so forcefully without actually going anywhere).

i'd rather just DJ, double or single leg bound, etc. I'm not a huge fan of drops anymore tbh - though I do think they can be useful.

edit: nitpicking but, kind of odd to see someone use the rail to get up onto an 18" box, but do a drop like that off of it.

31-08-17

Morning BW: 78.3kg

Workout

High Bar Back Squat
Bar x lots
60 x 5
80 x 3
95 x 3
105 x 3
115 x 3
122.5 x 2 [over 1.5xBW for a pretty easy double while cutting, not bad]  :personal-record:
100 x 6, 6, 6

Trap Bar Deadlift [in squat shoes + with handles down, so way deeper/harder than last week]
70 x 5
100 x 5, 5, 5, 5

Leg Extension
27.5 x 14
35 x 14, 14

Lying Leg Curl
50 x 14, 12
50 x 10 + 35 x 13 [many of the 35 reps were partials. I am convinced this is basically the most painful thing one can do in the gym]

Treadmill - 1mi @ 4pm, 5% incline, 148 bpm [max 153]

Notes

Made the decision to just eat big yesterday. Feel much better today for it and not that much heavier -- more in line with where I ought to be, really. Ramen and ice cream are so wonderful. This workout was done without breakfast, but because I ate so well yesterday it felt like a fed workout.

Wanted to just go for it on back squats today to see what's what. They felt brilliant. I'll put up the footage of the 122.5 double later today. Puts me at ~130kg estimated max, which @ 78kg is 1.67xBW. Not bad for pretty much not training back squats at all!

Feeling good going into this break.
