Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: Party's Over!

hey i remember there was a discussion in adarqs journal about improving top speed: i was saying that the best way to go about it was to do lots of drills: a-skips, b-skip, cycling stuff and mixing those with max effort sprints.

then i think you made a point about doing submax tempo runs to improve top speed. was jw what you meant by that and what you would do if you really wanted to improve your top speed. i already have a good strength base so looking more at track oriented stuff.

Submax tempo runs are really just to focus on technique and to build conditioning. As for improving top speed apart from being lean I think the best way to do it is doing drills like flying 30m sprints. I'm also a huge fan of speed endurance as speed endurance doesn't necessarily lead to greater max speed but it helps with the maintenance of top speed.

when i was in college we had ultimate practice late at night in the winter because that's when we could get the indoor football field. one day i was hungry before practice so i scarfed down a grilled cheese sandwich and fries right before i left. only time i've ever puked from exercise. it was not pleasant.

Lesson learnt!

You don't have to be muscular or bulky to run fast but you have to be able to move a certain amount of weight at a fast rate, lifting heavy weights is not as important as getting fast on the track but lifting 100lbs is RIDICULOUS for a world class sprinter

352lbs doesn't sound like much but it's 2.6x his body weight, which is equivalent of a 200lb Kingfish squatting 520lbs.

If I was using a case of squat not meaning shit I'd be using someone like Christophe Lemaitre who can barely squat his own body weight and trains by doing power cleans with 100lbs!!!! He really needs to move out of France and relocate to Jamaica or the USA if he ever wants to improve because clearly staying in Europe in his comfort zone is doing nothing for his career.

My waking HR was 109. It's been high since weds night. Im going to go see a doctor

Good idea mate. Best to get it checked. What's your resting HR?

it's between 50 and 70 now. but long story short i had to go to hospital (gp send me there) b/c there was a problem with my heart shown on the ECG, showed a flutter pattern. GP called me an ambulance and i spent a night at the hospital. Magically my heart went into sinus in the morning and they discharged me that day. Im on beta blockers and blood thinners now so i cant play contact sport anymore. No basketball for 5 months. Cardiologist wants to do an ablation. Im not sure i want that but he knows better i guess. so idk. never had surgery before.. bit scary.

That's not good! Hopefully they work out what's wrong with it and you can go back to playing basketball.
