ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: One-leg wall sits

Yeah I agree, my only issue is the squat stance. It's really wide, I can't even squat narrower (even with the heels elevated it still feels like I'll fall on my back).

Well I can full squat only if I have a very wide stance... otherwise I feel like I''ll fall back on my butt, even with the heels elevated. That means I'm compensating with a lot of forward knee bend...

Do you know if the VMO is activated even with wide stance full squats?

And yeah, I did 1 & 1/2 squats before... never to three reps though.

Well doctors say stupid things sometimes that make me wonder "this guy went through 6 years of medicine school to tell me a crap like that"?

For the record its closer to 10 years training to become a GP... and u simply cant expect them to know every little thing about every little disease or illness...

Oh of course I don't, that's not the issue, I'm not being unfair or anything. I just love great doctors and hate bad doctors to a even greater extent. The things bad doctors say, in terms of stupidity, are beyond what a regular person could say that doesn't have their studies.

For example, a friend of mine has fallen during skiing. He had a bloody thing and bruise at his shin and when he got to the doc, he said he's having shin splints and that's what's wrong. Don't get me started with these examples.

I've seen "trainers" prescribe incredibily stupid things for athleticism like INCREDIBILY form-wronged squats and so on.

And you think that the gloves will resolve the problem, right?

I like the peterson step ups alot more, I dont think leg extensions are awful, I just dont use them with athletes.  One cue you dont see talked about often with step ups is to "pull" with the hams and glutes before you "push".  It will aid the knee stability, get the glute involved more, and transfer more weight onto the working leg.

I worked with a bodybuilder a few years back that had problems with his vmo's, he had tried everything under the sun and they just wouldnt catch up with the rest of his leg development.  What worked was doing partials, at the bottom of the squat, he would go into a full squat, and "bounce" for 3 reps up to parallel and back down, then to a full standing position.  It was interesting as I tried different numbers with the partials at the bottom, 3 ended up being the most successful since the breath and tightness could be held for 3's, then he would return to a standing position after the 3rd and exhale, get another breath, and repeat.  In a typical set of 10 reps you get 30 reps at the bottom half this way, the vmo's responded insanely well with an added benefit of more glute development.

Just make really sure to include plenty of quad flexibility work as well, letting them tighten up on you is a good way to limit performance and have some more knee issues re appear.

I was under the impression that the VMO is activated in the last 25 degrees or so of extension, and I'm talking about the upper level of extension (so 1/4 to 1/8 squat). You say it's being activated at the bottom (full to parallel)? (wtf)

Person B, because of the increased leverage a higher center of gravity provides. That is - if they have the same structure, Person B will jump higher. But since you're saying they have the same VJ, that means they don't have the same structure so Person A will probably respond better to the fat loss.

But this is HIGHLY theoretical and you shouldn't ever worry about that since there are SOOO many other things to consider.

AH, Ok.  So person B is in better current shape (for a leaper) and person A would respond better to fat loss/training because he would get rid of the lower body fat, as person B has less lower body fat to lose and more upper body fat to lose.

I have another great hypothetical. Best friends, one named George and the other named Andre. Who's likely to dunk first if they start training at the same time?

Well George, because he has more vowels in his name. Or maybe Andre because his name is shorter? :ninja:

How do you get that...?

I mean, it's the same thing as tonsils infection (since they're also parts of the lymphatic system) just in another part of the body/different node?

nah it's way diff.. dno how i got it, doc said i must have touched something then touched my armpit but that doesn't make much sense.. odd

See? That's why I hate doctors - stupid retarded stuff like that drives me nuts. You got that from who knows where and it became infected in the armpit because that's the location of the lymph node. If it was somewhere else, you'd get infected somewhere else. I mean what, I touch something and then I touch my pinky finger and a lymph node grows there? WTF? Stupid stuff. Arrrghhhhhhhh

nah, if it went through my blood stream i'd be really sick right now.. it just so happened to be in the lymph node area.. when staph gets into your blood stream you gets chills, huge fever, and it can effect organs etc..

Don't tell me you buy his/hers explanation. That's very unlikely to have happened. You probably ate something infected or whatever and it so happened that that location got infected. Otherwise, maybe you got a lot of infected sweat that was pressed back into the skin from all the dunks/movements or something.

Whatever. Good you're better.

@ I did German all the way to the 4th grade but I never learned anything from it. I could hold my own in a conversation in english by grade 2, through watching movies, video games etc. but not the language I was actually studying lol

We're in the same boat then.

"Ich bin" doesn't sound portuguese to me ;)

it's german! lol

I know, I did 11 years of German. From the 2nd grade all the way up to the 12th grade. Nothing got to me. I can read but I don't know any grammar or what the words mean. I can just correlate stuff with English... and yes, I know ich bin = I am.

One more quick question:

In terms of VMO development, if I can't do half squats or 1/4 squats because of knee pain but I can do leg extensions, should I go with them? Just as an assistance exercise after my main workout things.

What about Peterson step-ups?
