Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: chasing athleticism
« on: February 20, 2019, 11:30:41 pm »
Currently it's to get to a maintainable 170kg daily max at 85kg bodyweight and switch focus to athleticism. I think getting to a daily 162.5kg minimum with the ability to (but very seldom) squat 170kg while weighing 85kg is within my grasp if i can get to rep 150kg for about 8 reps. For what it's worth my daily minimum is currently set at 155kg and my rep best is 7x147.5kg. Just need to close that gap then move on from squats (finally).

So to be categorical, you want to be a good squatter. Once you're a good squatter you want to become athletic.

We've defined a good squatter (your words) as a repeatable daily max of 170kg at 85kg. What is your definition of athleticism?

Just to be clear for all us folks reading this, including me. Is the goal to be a good squatter or to jump higher and be more athletic?

Hapkido class. Two instructors sick and another injured put me running the class. Forgot half my Korean terms but was an otherwise good class. Didn't get the same level of training I would normally get but was good to stretch the brain and have to think about things a bit more.

word, strong recommendation.

i started using goodreads last year or the year before (had an account before that but never used it). previously i just kept a written list of what i'd read. goodreads is a niftier way to keep track of books read and especially books to-read. anytime i hear about something interesting i look it up on there and add it to the list. handy reference when i'm trying to figure out what to read next. also for looking back: i read ~30 books a year (37 last year, actually).

37! That's a solid effort. I might start an account. I have a list on Wunderlist that I use for lots of work stuff but never really look at it.

two cool things.

52 year old got 3rd OA in the half: 1:15 .. flying. I remember this guy from "Run from the rays 5k". He looked like he was in insane shape, and he was. Dropped like 16:20 or something - 1st OA (i got 3rd in that race).

i actually cracked up bad when i read this.. how awesome is this comment? lmfao!!!!!

hahaha.

 :ibrunning:  :wowthatwasnutswtf: :ninja:

on a related note. when i was getting close to finishing the marathon, a couple yelled out support, i gave them the peace sign. and as i was going, i heard the guy say "that's the guy who won vista view" (the ultra) .. was kinda cool. i was trotting real slow so, that sucked.

fun stuff. hah.

Local celebrity mate.

Also, that VMO though  :o

PM stretching-
90s wall piriformis each side/90s wall middle split x 3

90s pigeon pose each side/90s pancake x 3

Couch stretch - 5 mins each side

Took about 45 mins total but it was late and I was switching between reading and watching Rambo for the first two then having a game of Fortnite during couch stretch. Good times.

word i had not heard of that book. looks interesting.

anyone else on here use goodreads?

This is the 4th in the series I think. I've only read the first and this one but you can read them out of order apparently. The first one was ridiculous. One of the best books I've read in the last 20 years (the entire GOT series included).

I don't actually use goodreads (except for that link haha). I'm not sure I read enough to justify it yet. Do you?

All star game was an absolute farce. Why not just throw 10 guys out there and let them do dunks. It's ridiculous.

all star game was great hah. i loved it. defense wasn't as bad as i expected.

that game was all 3's. not easy to run up the score that high with so many 3's. they were lighting it up!!

also curry's pass to giannis.. and giannis's finish.. insanity. :ibjumping: :wowthatwasnutswtf:

Nah it was shooting practice. Lillard got me mildly interested with his 3's and yeah Giannis's finish was ridiculous.

I just miss the days when it was an actual competitive game. I mean just look at how Kobe plays T-Mac after he gets blocked early. It's not as "pretty" but there's actual pride here.

Inspired by Mutumbo000 and Adarqui. I used to read a lot. Like a lot. Now...not so much.

Currently reading this monster. I'm only a hundred or so pages in out of the 800 but it's a very easy book to get lost in.

Missed the last three workouts of last week. Not great but I still played netball and did Hapkido so it wasn't like I sat on my ass doing nothing.

Played ball yesterday. 62-7. Our way lol. It was a train wreck of a game. The other team had two brothers who took at least 20 3's between then with most being from the "NBA" 3 point line. Half of them were step backs too. They hit 1 between them. In the end we didn't even bother defending them they were that far out. I felt sorry for their team mates. Especially one guy who was my height and had decent skills but just never got the ball. I also felt sorry for another of their players who ran into me as I made a cut. My shoulder made contact with his jaw and I felt it snap like I threw a nasty hook. Poor guy was probably 20-30kgs lighter than me too. He was ok and we had a good chat after the game. I had a couple of pre game dunks but no real opportunities in game. Aside from the alley that my teammate threw me with a couple of minutes left. Legit no legs that late in the game.

5am training

Reverse sled drag- 60m x 5
Peterson Step Up- bar x 15, 25 x 15, 30 x 15, 35 x 15, 40 x 15

Seated Calf Raise- 3 x 10 @+40

Seated DB Ext rotation- 5 x 10, 6 x 10, 7 x 10
Seated Tib Raise- 3 x 10 @ 15

Done. Stretch later tonight.

*Edit- Forgot to mention I went to the park yesterday morning with my kids and shot around for a while. Trying to focus on a few key items for my shot and it was going well. I ended up (internally anyway) feeling like I had a Klay type action. This actually then made it really easy to mimic his action instead of focusing on correcting my form and the shots started dropping. Was a really strange phenomenon and not sure if anyone else has done this. He has a really distinctive shot and maybe that's why it was easier to mimic it. What's more is I hit a few fade aways yesterday during the game and that same feeling was present. Hit a few mid ranges jumpers in practice too which was promising.

Didn't get to the gym yesterday. Did do hapkido last night though. Good class. Also in more exciting news our hapkido club has struck a deal with my son's gymnastics club to share some space. Means I'll be able to train a lot more and with better facilities. Cannot wait.
