It's snowy outside and I have already started doing MSEM/jumpsquats/depth jumps in terms of training. Now my idea was to do strength work during the winter, then transition into power during spring and play during summer, reaping the benefits of my winter/spring work during games (streetball).

Now I'm in a dilemma: should I return to volume work to increase muscle size/strength, or should I continue with MSEM/power, hopefully tweaking my gained strength to be more explosive. I've never really done explosive work for too much time... and my plan is to finally do it. I will do it anyway, but maybe I should get with a 3x5 on the squats twice per week going for a little more muscle size... not sure.

What do you think?

That jump has to be over forty, no doubting that.

He plants LR on the jump by the way. Oh, and he keeps the left heel off the ground.

Haha, Chris in the beast thread. Well he better be in here.

Next I want Casey Combest.

Then why don't you put him in here yourself?  :strong:

Wow. You were smart enough to actually think of that and I wasn't. Amazing.

I don't put him because I can't find any video of him.

You also have to think like this:

How you can jump faster: with your bodyweight or with additional weight on you, like a weight vest or a barbell? So basically, improving your strength will make your bodyweight be a lower % of your max 1RM, and a lower percentage is easier to move/jump. Period.

Getting better hams will probably help you jump faster/extend faster at the knee, since the CNS will "know" (in lack of a better term) it can allow a faster knee extension because the hams are powerful enough to stop the knee from hyperextending (act as brakes). So therefore, at least in my opinion, your knee extension power will improve.

215 Total.

wow what? seriously??

Yup. I think my education/childhood stays at the base of that. My dad used to beat me whenever I was doing any little mistake etc (probably good subject for "the hole" forum or something now that I'm saying it) so it just develops that "fear" of doing any mistake and weakens your mind as heck. If you pan that to ~10 years of that non-stop in terms of "environment", you better believe it's going to affect you big time.

Well yeah because you're going to need the quads for amortization and the glutes for hip extension. So...

6296
I remember DeFranco saying the best jumpers had the best hamstrings in his tests, and the best (quickest) drop down and jump up (shortest amortization phase).

I was like, "what do hamstrings have to do with that?". The quads improve the amortization phase by decelerating the knees going forward and preventing the knees from collapsing.

I remember Kelly telling me, years ago, that my leg collapse in the plant is actually, by what he can guess, more a matter of hamstring strength than quad. I was, again, like wtf?

Oh yeah, I know, I don't worry about that or anything, it's just nice to know and decipher the intricasies of human structure and all that.

Some coaches use high cut calves as signs of possible track stars so... it has a possible practical application/effect.

What if you have a longer but more compliant tendon vs a shorter but stiffer tendon?
