god those feb dunks were so sexy by comparison. could have hit a lob that day, i'm sure of it.

vball dunk was nice mijo.

thanks b. kind of weak but better than nothing, i guess.

I think you could dunk right now if you were to improve that clumsy looking plant and approach... it looks REALLY weird. It used to look better... wtf...

Look at how you "depth drop" over a very short drop and a weird angle

i think part of that is foreshortening because of the camera angle. but you're right, when i was jumping at all-time-high levels earlier this year i wasn't jump-stopping quite as markedly.

here are those february big dodgeball dunks again, gotta get back to this level:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaiZOr-tOcw

btw, mr. SLRVJ expert: got any tips for my hideous one-leg jumps? i took some footage of myself doing layups, too but didn't post because they're so much uglier than they feel. i look like a goofball, like a guy from a how-to-play-basketball PE video from the 50s.

Nice jumps! We are almost exactly at the same heights. From SVJ to full run-up to SLRVJs, we are getting the same rim touches.
If i had your vert or if you had my reach we would be at 10'10'' - 10'11'' lol

thanks vag! by our powers combined, we can dunk with two hands! given that i'm not getting arm extensions anytime soon and am if anything getting an arm retraction because of my shoulder problems, i'll have to settle for jumping higher.

can you seriously do unassisted natural GHR? i find that kind of hard to believe...

For example here, it says "Re: New hosting" in each post's title, with the 0 and downarrow uparrow overlapping the "Re:".

not in chrome.

sorry vag, i feel your pain.

i was pulling hard for CR, though, gotta rep CONCACAF! especially after mexico snatched defeat from the jaws of victory earlier. what a win that would have been.

Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: THE DREAM JOURNAL
« on: June 30, 2014, 08:00:47 am »
last night i dreamed that i was watching an interview between babe didrikson (one of the first internationally famous female athletes, look her up) by a young woman. didrikson was old, i guess in her 70s, and had become a new york state assemblywoman. the interviewer got increasingly upset as she asked didrikson about some policies that she'd been supporting and voting for that were very conservative and, to the interviewer, a betrayal of didrikson's feminist roots. but didrikson was nonplussed, she'd never really been a feminist, just super competitive. the interviewer ended up in tears and things kind of petered out.

later, i imagined i was looking in the mirror and i'd developed a little pooch over the waistband of my boxers. i decided to go on a crash low-carb diet.

checked when i woke up: no pooch. ::)

was going to bound and sprint today but right as i was getting ready to leave the house it started to thunder. f that. so i did some KB swings and hand-to-elbow planks in a big ol' 10-set circuit and stretched. weak effort but better than nothing.

here's some vid of yesterday's jumps. sorry for the shit editing.

oh i just mean so late, after they got sued for false advertising and had to pay some millions of dollars to people who'd bought the shoes.

i went through the whole cycle with fivefingers, similar to with crossfit but less extreme: devotee-->hardcore opponent-->measured observer. they can be very beneficial, and they can completely fuck you up. although i have no real evidence for it, i think they hastened the onset of my arthritis. they transfer stress that is customarily focused on the knee to the ankles and feet and if you're not very careful that can and does lead to chronic and acute injury. personally i feel that for most people, they're probably better for walking around in or scrambling/hiking in than for running.

basically, caveat emptor, don't expect them to work miracles or be all that great. if you adjust to them carefully you might really enjoy them and have many years of healthy running in them. they're certainly better than running barefoot when all you've got to run on is asphalt and concrete. but you might also get achilles tendonosis.

the science of sport guys have written extensively and very well about the debate around barefoot running and VFF in particular. latest article is from just after the lawsuit settlement: http://www.sportsscientists.com/2014/05/vibram-lawsuit-barefoot-running-common-sense/

No, i mean unrealistic.
Correct me if i am wrong, according to what i read and how i had it in mind too, unreal = dreamlike, unrealistic = not like expected.
The bar has a diverse feeling overall after the halfs. It feels like it is a hollow plastic bar that i can break in half if i want. The whole feeling i get touching the bar and having it on my back and adjusting it with my hands is unrealistic compared to the normal feel of a 20kg steel bar.

you are half right. unreal does mean something like dreamlike, although obviously the connotations are different and you wouldn't use them in exactly the same way. but unrealistic doesn't mean unexpected, means very unlikely to occur in reality. the most common way i can think of it being used is in relation to expectations: e.g., "imagining costa rica will win the world cup is pretty unrealistic." something along those lines.

that's also not a correct way to use "diverse," you should just say "different" there. but i'm not really sure what you mean by unrealistic in that context. it feels fake compared to the way it feels normally?

- warm up

- DLRVJ x a bunch
felt really good walking out but the four-step jumps were just okay. still better than last time, probably ~34-35 range for most.

- SLRVJ x a few
got vid, so incredibly slow, much slower than they feel. right around 29.5-30 for both legs.

- stretch

- grip work with COC
