How much work have you been doing on specific jumping drills? Used mild-moderate shock training? EDIT: Missed that bit but more details would be useful.

I had a similar thing where at 5'8 with a 170kg ass to floor squat at 80kg I could only just nick the rim despite jumping every second day. Basically as high as I was getting when I could squat 110kg at 70kg, although my standing jump had improved heaps. It took more specific drills, mostly working on feet and ankles for me, and 18-24" depth jumps and my single leg RVJ went up 4" in a month from being only slightly higher than my standing 31-32" to 35-36".

I certainly have not done as much jump specific work as one would if they were focusing purely on VJ. I am definitely not supremely skilled in those movements; however, I never was and I would have though that the general improvement in power/strength and elasticity (evidenced by sprint results) would have resulted in significant improvements in the VJ as well and it just never happened.

I have considered doing a LOT more specific work for the feet and ankles, but am unsure of how to incorporate it and have not seen a lot of significant results from other posters other than random bros who do Air Alert or are basically untrained. I'm far from untrained and my lifting/running stats wouldn't be possible for a person with my talent without a lot of training.

ok so you just pin pointed what you need to do...more jump specific work if you'd like to dunk...you have the lifting numbers it would seem...now work on the movement efficiency and plyometric end of things

adarq: probably the best session of my life, because, it was the worst session of my life, until the last dunk

this is going to be a good video, im going to put every single dunk attempt in it and just put the good dunk times in the description.. i want people to see how hard u gotta push when ur body has turned to shit all of a sudden. Probably close to around 100 dunk attempts for sure.

last dunk seemed pretty insane.

cool house...but try and stay away from the children with that scary beard!

yeah getting to a gym or buying weights and strength training is your best option...but if not try getting the vertical jump bible and doing the body weight routine...or look into and make your own body weight strength routine

just go buy some caffeine pills they're pretty cheap and are usually 200 mg a piece so that should the trick

so i did the bounding workout again but this time both double and single leg with the power jumper...the single leg bounds are waaaaaay easier than the double though double leg jumping is my prefered jumping style so you'd think i'd be better at the double leg version...i didn't do them with out the powerjumper because i was pretty beat...does it work to do a session with the powerjumper and a session without...or should i do both in the same session but drop my volume on both?

also my right leg(i single leg jump off my left) seemed to hold up better than my left leg hahaa

my abs are sore already actually which is something i wasn't expecting...they were sore the last time i did the bounds but i didn't realize thats why they were sore...i think my ham strings are going to be pretty sore too...you were right about the strength stimulus thing!

Speaking of arm swing, is there any way to switch from a single arm swing to a double arm swing in single leg bounding? Any progression or just plain old practice of the movement?

My single arm swing resembles what happens in a sprint more than in a jump.

funny i naturally do a double arm swing when bounding on my left leg(my primary jumping leg) and a single arm swing when i bound on the right...hmmm...curious

oh and though i'm not, i'd rather be a Randian than a keyensian

The two instances are completely different,

that wasn't real thought...it was merely a witty quotation used to veil one man's dislike of the work

he makes a statement saying that a serious work of literature is "a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world"

without anything to back it up.
And the problem with criticisms which don't have supporting evidence is that they are hard to refute...

there are many valid criticisms of Rand's work--this is not one of them.

And lastly, I provided a very valid reason for not taking John Roger's literary criticism seriously.

Bodybuilding / Re: Bodybuilding is so gay
« on: May 20, 2011, 01:23:01 am »
I got lots of respect for real body builders. The dedication is amazing. They sacrifice good food and a lot of lifestyle for a goal man. That dedication would go a long way toward making them a decent athlete if they wanted to be.

BUT real body builders are NOT the fags who go to the gym to do 3 types of bench, swing biep curls in the farking rack and leg extensions. I wouldn't swerve to miss those morons.

I also hate the whole perception of an athletic build in the western world. Big biceps + chesticles + mad abz = strength. Sh!t most of these guys couldn't squat with their wallet in their pocket or dead lift a dropped pancake. My gym was so full of these losers I built a power rack at home  :highfive:
