and KIRUI dropped everyone.

exciting race so far.

Yuki Kawauchi & Des Linden are beasts. Linden especially for helping Shalane out when she had to make a bathroom pitstop.

Daska & Yuki with the most guts so far.

Daska aggressively swerving all over the road to prevent people from drafting on her, beast.

Fun fact:

Dane Bird Smith won a national U/20 title for QLD in the 4x400m as a 48 second runner.

He's also dropped a cheeky 3.57 in the 1500m as a youngster

And last but not least.... he can walk the 5km in 18 minutes. Faster than most runners can run the 5km, he could beat them without even running.... The bird can fly but chooses to walk.

that is stupefying.

damn dude that is insane.. he's one of the fastest all around athletes.. to do it from sprints, to middle, to walking.. damn!

hiruni wijayaratne is my hero now. not enough runners with short, muscular legs. respect.

she's awesome. really pushes it. making huge progress. responds to her supporters/fans/questions etc (a common theme among women athletes).

Also, trains with coach Hudson out in Boulder (i think). Her husband is an Olympian too (Luis Ortiz).

love videos like this. rare to find videos that are just up close footage of a runner the entire time. can hear his breathing, foot strike, etc.

man he is FLYING.

27:30? 10k on roads.

Edit 3: I actually wrote a bit but then saw it was posted on 1st april and it was the only news. So now i am thinking is this news fake.

http://www.letsrun.com/news/2018/04/iaaf-announces-mo-farah-dqed-2017-worlds-10k-plus-10-additional-dqs-world-indoors/

jajjajaja!!!

that is GREAT. because it could so easily be true. They DQ'd people for the same or less, since then.

that's a solid prank.

A local runner friend's Boston jersey (Michael Hollander). He's made incredible progress over the years. He's 53, just ran 1:23:XX half a few weeks ago.

From April IAAF has plans to change the athletics ranking system.

Quote
What's the change?
A new world ranking system - similar to those seen in tennis or golf - will provide a run-down of the best athletes in each event.

So in the same way that tennis' tour organisers, through heavy-duty number crunching, define Roger Federer and Simona Halep as the best players in the world, the IAAF will rank their stars.

It won't end the eternal bar-room debate, but it will attempt to provide an objective answer.

What rides on it?
Not just prestige. Qualification for IAAF events will move away from obtaining one-off qualifications times, distances and heights and instead be based on athletes' position in the rankings.

No longer will it be possible to bank on an early-season high-altitude outlier performance as a ticket to the biggest championships.

hmm. cool!

absolutely insane/disturbing video .. Callum Hawkins basically almost dies towards the end of this marathon (which he was leading by a large margin). Complete trash medical support.

He's basically just dying, no help. So brutal to watch.

https://thewest.com.au/sport/commonwealth-games/aussie-michael-shelley-wins-marathon-gold-after-leader-collapses-in-gold-coast-heat-ng-cee5b50946bbd644fba8e076196a6c6d

people were even taking photos like wtf.
I heard this on the radio when I woke up. I also watched it. How does one become like that.
it's fuk'd up.

apparently it was insanely hot. pushing the pace (to goal pace, but not in ideal conditions) can wreck you. He basically would have died if he was on his own. Crazy shit.
