damn - just read about your situation, can't relate to the level of anguish this must have put you through but like yourself and everyone else has said; you deserve better and your continued focus on other aspects of your life is the way to go for sure - and you're recent efforts in the gym are pretty impressive considering.

best wishses dude - your situation will get better, just gotta keep going!

p.s. totally agree with the above points that this forum really does have some brilliant members and input, having been around since being a 15 year old kid its pretty awesome to see how everyone has stuck together over the years.

I've always been fascinated by Ireland... I think Ireland, Patagonia and Maldives are my favorite places (Maldives = Heaven on Earth).

whilst a couple of weeks relaxing on a beach in the maldives sounds amazing - i feel i would get quite bored once i was used to the perfect white sand and turqouise water!

i read somewhere recently that the maldives have the lowest 'highest point' of any country at around 2.5m.

went for a stroll in the countryside today. 'rolling english hills' summed up.

This is my preferred diet.. meat sometimes but not every day. I have to force myself to cook and eat meat everyday when im dialed in on some body comp goals. it's not something I enjoy. And i find meat ruins dishes I enjoy sans-meat too.

do you feel you can't hit macros w/ body comp goals?

I've switched mostly to lacto-ovo in recent months. I get plenty of protein from eggs (cage free), yogurt (greek), cheese, and milk. I definitely need to eat more veggies though, havn't been eating as much lately. I love eating like this. I feel better (physically and ethically) eating this way.

I too have ethical issues eating meat/poultry etc. If I purchase meat/poultry myself, I make sure to get free-range/no hormones (etc) products. Unfortunately the chicken/meat I eat ~1x/week going out (bbq/restaurants etc), I have no idea what their sources are. It bothers me but not as much as when I was eating like that EVERY DAY. So I feel better about it.

I don't think I could ever go full vegan, I love meat/chicken too much. This smoked brisket I eat once in a while is too good to give up completely. Personally, I just need to keep focusing on keeping my meat/poultry intake down to 1-2x/wk.

yeah, i noticed in your log you eat a lot of veggie foods - i eat a lot of dairy anyway so meeting protein should be easy enough. When you say physically better, how do you mean? I feel my digestion will feel better...so much more fibre in a veggie diet. (for me)

Yeah, i don't feel i'll life-time go NO meat, the problem with that sort of meat its more expensive, for good reason, so for now its probably going to be a very rare treat, when i have money i'll invest in good meat i guess. or maybe i wont. I don't particuarly enjoy meat beyond sausages/steak so won't really miss much as i don't eat those often anyway. i was eating 3 chicken breats a day kind of thing though which is just dumb. i don't think full vegan is a route i'd go down either. ethically something to think about is the massive amount of land used for growing crops is killing animals too so...

my uncle occasionally goes to scotland and hunts wild deer...this is the most moral meat i can come buy so pretty fortunate for that...lives a free wild life and dies instantly...still, i wonder if i could pull the trigger + butcher it...probably not unless i HAD to to survive. also risk of missed shot and non-instant death etc/young suffering.

on a side note, Jim Wendler said recently to his followers or people wanting to see gains, "eat 1.5 lb. of meat per day".. I understand his advice and agree it's effective if pure strength & mass is what you are after.. but i'm not into that at all (ethically or health-wise). If those were my goals, i'd rather achieve them through a diet void of 1.5+ lb. of meat per day (GOMAD is similar). I'm glad i'm "reverse bulking" now though, love being light.

yeah, i don't feel like my goals of gaining muscle is important enough, also i would not enjoy eating 1.5lb of meat a day at all + its probably not optimal healthwise. so no to jim for me im afraid, i don't feel my gains will suffer THAT much anyway...

will be interesting trying to move up into 94kg cat while being vegetarian thats for sure!

this is interesting - 3 'vegan' meals a day for 150g protein/2kcals. cheap (£1.45/meal), basically no prep.

obviously cals would need to be bumped up for anyone remotely active.

Any veggies on here?

Considering going lacto-ovo. I eat so much meat, 90% for 'protein'...which is dumb cos ethically i don't like eating meat and i can get plenty of protein without it. I'll probably still eat a steak or something if I go out, not going to be anal about it, but that still represents a HUGE reduction in my meat consumption. I was a vegetarian before i started training properly, and I'd like to go back.

Any tips? regarding protein or any other nutrients (iron etc).

I'd still consume a tonne of milk, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, whey protein - from these i don't see any problem getting enough protein. Other non-dairy sources?

What's the consensus on soy?

Also mycoprotein - is there anything that makes it a no no?

Sorry lots of questions. Would be interested to hear from any other veggies!

Anybody into it?

no, but I wish I was.. nothing like that in Florida. I'll have to move in order to experience it.

when I was a kid, I used to climb these 25-50+ ft "mountains" (excavated rock/dirt) that were created when developing sections of land for apartments etc. We had makeshift rock climbing equipment. We'd also search for all kinds of natural crystals that were scattered throughout the rock/sand manmade-mountains... was so much fun. Other than that, everything in south florida is a few feet above sea level. ;/

I just bought my first ice axe + crampons, pretty excited to go use them...just small UK mountains for now though, but some great winter weather for them at the moment. I would love to progress and get into more alpine type stuff though.

I really want do the classic haute route sometime - multiday trek, basically mont blanc - matterhorn up high on the glaciers.

awesome.

amazing. looks like a dream to me ;f

ah man - it's such a shame that it's so dependent on where you live. we don't have 'big' mountains here, get up to around 1000m..but in winter they get a bit more 'proper' looking.

you would probably make a pretty good climber -great endurance, long, lean and lb:lb strong!

been watching a bunch of ueli steck stuff:

^^^incredible athlete physically + man you have to have some serious mental strength to do stuff like that without a rope

hey man,

was wondering if you use any kind of calf compression while running/after? Looking at getting some dedicated running sleeves, 2xu ones look good? - been using some anti embolosim knee height stockings i stole from my sister after she had surgery, but they are falling apart pretty quick, however they do seem to have helped with calf soreness!

yo! nah I don't.. i've never run with any compression, other than somewhat tight high socks. I've worn compression stockings before for jumping/short sprints/lifting, they did feel good, but never ran distance in them.

I was thinking of getting compression pants, but they were pretty expensive.

nice that they seem to help with calf soreness.

you getting these?

damn these pants look TIGHT (literally):

http://www.2xu.com/ca/p/compression-tights/MA1967b.html

ya those are the ones. the tights do look pretty sweet - so expensive though + i think the calf only would offer more compression. i have some nike compression tights for but they offer next to 0 calf compression, they seem to instantly increase flxibility for oly lifting though - double up as insulation when its cold too.

ps for what it's worth, i think the abdo pain is more likely the calisthenics stuff than banana related, can't really see how bananas would be causing pain the day after, particularly upper abdominal pain. - on a banana related note, http://thebananagirl.com/ LOL

just did an unintentional fast and it gave me a headache. i do think it makes sense for me to try it as i try to cut a few pounds, though. full meal > half meal.

did you drink water?

a few people i know who've tried it don't get on with it at all

bump, nice posts in here ^^

also, nice study on IF:

http://www.lift-heavy.com/intermittent-fasting/

i was thinking of posting that and some other if stuff in the peer review section - IF hype seems to have died down a little recently, not sure why?

i love intermittent fasting, i've been doing it for a few years now, don't follow a strict 18-6 or anything like that, i just skip meals until i'm hungry/feel i need to eat. so mostly i end up eating around 2pm. but if im out at uni till say 5, sometimes i won't eat till i get home at 7pm, which makes cramming cals in a bit harder but it's fine. i do feel better training fasted, but i've been trying to move away from this and eat a small amount of carbs/protein before, i would just train on bcaa but can't afford them. obviously water/black coffee etc are fine.

anyone ever done any longer fasts? my longest was ~40 hrs. weirdly my hunger really dropped off later in the day, but got really wired late at night after a whole day not eating, then woke up fine. felt good - certainly from a health perspective they seem beneficial

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvdbtt_eat-fast-live-longer-hd_shortfilms - documentary on fasting that was aired over here.
