Monday 11/29/2010:

-Warmup
-Double leg bounds: 4x5
-MR Tuck jumps: 4x10
-MR Pogos: 4x5

-Squat: 3x5 w/185 lbs
-GHR: 3x6
-BB Calf raises: 4x10 w/155lbs.

-Cooldown + Stretch
-PWO Shake.

Abs were killing me during the bounds because of the way they stretched out in the air. Still no clue how they're still hurting, but it's gotten better throughout the day. Decided on keeping the squats a bit down since I haven't lifted for almost two weeks. Just after my warmup sets I started thinking about Lance's article on putting all your effort into every rep, every set. 185 was almost bouncing off me. Still glad I kept it down though. Gave me a chance to work on depth/form.

Indoor track starts next week. I'll keep all my sprint stuff posted. We may have to redo my lifting routine to better fit sprinting and hurdling every day of the week.

I use box jumps all the time. (Not really). I do use them once in a while. Why? HIP FLEXORS. I'm a hurdler, vert isn't too important in the event because your center of mass is supposed to stay at nearly the same height throughout the event. But, I would never bother trying for crazy high box jumps. I get enough hip flexor work from tuck jumps and the occasional set of ~36 in. box jumps. Aside from that, I really see no benefit in it. Even then, how many events or sports actually require that kind of hip strength? Hurdles are the only thing I've ever done that have actually required it.

Bionic hamstrings. Boom.

You respond as if I were stupid. I've registered, and I've logged in. It won't let me view it.

Seriously. The ONLY time leg press was more beneficial to me was when I literally couldn't do squats. It was a physical impossibility because I couldn't my my arm enough to hold the weight right. Even if it's more comfortable for some, that doesn't mean it's more beneficial. I especially hate where it says you can use your arms to help push the weight off when you're too tired. Way to tell people, who already have a hard time working out, that it's okay for them to cheat.

The absolute WORST of the girls on my track team wouldn't do that bad. Most I've seen is a single fall over the last, or second to last hurdle, once fatigue has set in. Form is terrible and coaching is probably worse. Just watching makes me rage at whoever's doing the half-assed coaching job at their school.  :pissed:

Funny, you know... all the disadvantages listed to BB squat is why I do it. All the reasons listed for leg press advantages are exactly why I don't do them. (Except when I tore my deltoid and I couldn't hold the bar up on squat. Leg press was the only way I could get heavy leg work done.)

You may not be able to do a lot on squat at first because of your back, but that's exactly why you do it. Spinal erectors and core are extremely important in most sports. I don't plan on going over hurdles with an arched back or hurting my back from the reactive energy from a long jump just because my spinal erectors can't hold me together because they're so weak compared to my legs. There's a reason most people my age have at least minor forms of scoliosis. Spinal erectors are some of the weakest muscles in normal people. (Normal being the lazy, desk tied type.) In reality they should be some of the strongest. Especially if you plan on doing any strenuous sports. You can't neglect certain muscle groups. Your body becomes imbalanced and prone to injury, especially in high stress movements like jumps.

Thanks!

So.... I donated blood yesterday.... that was interesting. I think my veins dilated a bit much before the needle was put in. Nurse stuck it in really fast. Hurt like hell, but she said if she hadn't done it that way it would have squirted blood on me. I felt fine throughout it, but when I was done I almost blacked out. My body went kinda cold and I felt all my extremities vibrate from the blood loss (not shiver, mind you, I was the only one that could feel it). I've never reacted so badly. My arm's never hurt so bad afterward either. Later in the night, when I took the bandages off, I noticed I was really sore and had some deep bruises or slight internal bleeding. I think some other blood vessels might have broken and that's why I reacted so bad when she took the needle out. Ironically, during the donation, when they were taking my blood, I was the most comfortable I've been. Regardless, normally I could jump up and down right after and feel fine... not yesterday. I'm gonna take it easy until Monday when my arm doesn't hurt and I feel a bit better.

Leg soreness is almost entirely gone. Core/upper back/shoulders are still sore from from all the handstand work I was doing yesterday morning and all throughout the day before. Core especially. I'm gonna keep that stuff up, the balance and coordination required should transfer well into my hurdle form and consistency.

Video quality from my phone is pretty gross. I may replace it eventually, but there it is. My first day landing a back tuck. On the best of the ones I did, but it was decent. Later I was getting higher and I was told I might be able to do a standing full. Who knows. Adding a full turn to that would terrify me, but I learned it it would be amazing.

That's definitely believable and just as amazing. I don't see why people feel the need to inflate their already impressive PRs. It only makes them lose credibility.
