Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: ADARQ's journal
« on: July 19, 2010, 05:15:23 am »
ok so.... the bodyweight only experiment has ended.. so, the have tons of fun experiment has started..

ok well, i can see myself really wrecking myself on this bodyweight shit again, because, i'll admit it, i'm greedy... the only way to provide significant overload is through depth drops and shock-like protocols... i know I can do it, it's just, do I have the patience to progress so damn slow and still risk injury such as my plantar fasciitis..  my exercise selection is limited on my bodyweight experiment, absolutely no devices / tools except for my GHR, so that leaves me to do lots of crazy shit in order to get results.. is it worth it right now? not sure.. i mean i'd love to complete it, but i also don't want to take waaay too much time adapting to drops/plyos.

i'll blog all this crap eventually and give my thoughts on pure bodyweight, I really think it can be done very successfully, as is kind of proof from how fast I got my RVJ up. plus you know what? i just want to do more stuff, more variety, and have more fun.. i get to use my thick bars, sled, and barbells now.. as well as my dip/pullup belt..

so, what am i going to do now? just have fun and keep up what i was doing, but instead of getting obsessed with my depth drops/plyos, i'll let those progress very-very gradually, which will be doable now that i'm going to mess with weights again.. i don't plan on going crazy with weights though, i'm still going to have a "more-work, lighter load" approach.

THANK YOU !!! :D

BSS , MSEM , rest between reps ~30'' , rest between sets ~4':
2x1@244
2x1@286 , PR
286 = 1,478*session bodyweight / 1,502*morning bodyweight!!!
Right (weaker ) foot's ROM was 2'' shorter.

sick!!!! how fast did it go up?

Not fast , not too slow though as the smith doesnt allow you to collapse and get in a bad position , must have been ~2 to 3 seconds. 2nd rep a little faster , MSEM FTW! :D

Dude I want a high-speed camera so bad. I would have so much fun with that.

ya me too.. there are some relatively cheap ones, i was going to get one a year ago.. i should have :P

There are a few cell-phones ( like mine ) that feature 120fps , but quality really sucks , QVGA with bad light sensitivity etc.
Im about to buy a cam, those are my favs that kick ass in value for money:

Kodak zi8
Sony CM5

They both shoot 1080p/30fps and 720p/60fps.
zi8 costs only ~130euros
CM5 costs ~200 euros but has much better lens , 5x optical zoom and better sound.
Nothing really special with those cams but 720p/60fps at that price level is sick!

Why not try using a girls' basketball? It's still "dunking a basketball." Not even joking.

Ya , i get you , ive dunked miniballs , volleyballs and some smaller size b-balls , doesn't count. Those balls are palmable way too easy , with the edge of fingers , i get a full arm swing with them and i need just ~10'3'' do dunk them. It is too easy , it isnt fun at all and it doesn't even feel like dunking , dunking = size 7 :D

i beat you vag!! hit 35 before u did  :)  remember our competition?

you need vid though :P

zgin :
-congrats on your PR
-get a vid
-grow up

Congrats in the PR's man.

sick session man, congrats on the PR's!!@%@!@()%!#^)!@

nice you got the KOBE V's now too, ballin`.

peace

Thanks guys.
Still not happy , except from the 29'' SVJ and the 34'' rim touch all the other jumps felt like i was holding back  :-\
Also i gotta improve my dunking skills , i really suck when i cant palm the ball , my runup gets screwed , i lose 2-3'' of vert. Tried some lobs too , no way to get them right...
2 handers are a lot better , but its a long way to get those on 10' , i need like 3'' more, so best jump must be 37'' , not happening soon!
Bleh...

15 July 2010

Vertical jump testing/dunks session
Weight@session : ~194
Stim : Just a redbull

Was wearing my new Kobe V's. Awesome shoe : lightweight , responsive , cushioning , low cut , ankle support , perfect!!!

Unfortunately it was awfully hot , it was 40C/104F in the day and even at 10:30pm that i went jumping it was 35C/95F.
Lost ~3,5lbs of sweat in 45 mins

Warmup as usual , 10' dynamic warmup , 2x5 tuck jumps and then some low/mid effort jumps.

JUMPS , mixed on 9'8'' / 9'10'' ( 10' was taken and 9'10'' had really low light ):
-1x3 SVJs : ~28,5'' , maybe 29 ( PR ).
-1x4 2-step DLRVJs : 3x~32'' , 1x~34''*
-1x4 full runup DLRVJs : ~33''
*Got that HUGE 34'' jump on the 2-steps set, got mid forearm at 9'8'' rim , ~13'' above , thats a PR rim touch.

DUNKS on 9'8''
Got a really hard 2 hander hanging on the rim too , got a tomahawk from a little far out too , got a nice cuffed 1-hander and some hard cuffed misses.

DUNKS on 9'10''
Not good , due to low light , just a couple of rather soft 2-handers.

Then the 10' rim was available so i went there
1x2 2-steps DLRVJs : ~32''
1x2 full runup DLRVJs : ~32''
1 more 2-steps DLRVJ : 33''

2x4 dunk attempts : 0/8 , getting better though , they were mostly off the backboard misses where i was grabbing rim at mid-palm , last time was top-palm.

Left shin started to hurt so i stopped.

for vag, dunkfather can get up on 10's mang:

:D

For sure , i never doubted his 40+ RVJ , neither JusFly's 50+
Still , that rim (dunkfather's ) is crazy bent , but maybe its higher than 10' and its 10' at the bent point , nevermind.
When he is getting both wrists above it still looks higher than the jump on urban jam to achieve the same thing.
Doesn't really matter , im talking about ~2'' difference so:
- i could be wrong
- doesn't change much , if the urban jam rim was 9'10'' it still means JusFly got his chin on 10' level , so if it was 56'' or 54'' doesnt change anything.
I insist because for me 10' and 9'10'' is huge difference , from dunking hard to not dunking at all , 9'10'' and 10' are 2 different universes!
But for those vertical jump beasts it makes no difference.

Bleh , wtf , lets say both are 10'  ;D  ;D  ;D

lol ya.. when you jump as high as darlington jumped it doesn't even matter at that point, which is ridiculous you know? it's like if bolt ran a 9.3 and it was debated to be a 9.4... it just wouldn't even matter.. sure for history it would be, but god damn, 53-56 RVJ is psychotic.

im still amazed :D

x2
Psychotic , perfect choice of word
After typing the previous message i got a measuring tape to see where is 55'' on me... its upper chest part , holy shit , my jaw dropped...

My wrist : 6,9''

Damn vag, you got skinny wrists.

Word!
Not just wrists , my general built is skinny/non-muscular , yet not lean , not even close GRRRRR  >:(.
Before engaging with weights , being 19 years old my natural bodyweight would balance at ~160lbs, bodyfat would be ~15% though.
When i was 15 years old my height was ~5'9''  and my weight... ~120lbs!!!
That would explain very clear why i dont worry much about my bodyfat , being naturally at 165/15% at 19 years old makes my current 194/16 while being 17 years older more than impressive!
Getting off-topic though , gonna post a full detailed training bio eventually so we can continue there , sorry everyone!

So he is much leaner , we are more or less the same everywhere unless from quads/hips where im much bigger.
Pretty close , lol , wtf did you expect , im Greek! :D

http://www.higherverticalnow.com/ , you must give your email to access the main page.

There is a good long video from A-Link there , analyzing jumping form.
Its mostly technique for SLRVJ , the 2 real examples are also 1-foot jumpers , but he insists many points are the same for 2-foot jumpers too.
It also looks like its gonna be a 4-vids series there , released gradually.

Sure worth a look , let me know what you guys think...

4724
FWIW , i think its ridiculous calling him a traitor or whatever. We are talking about quantities of money and glory that we cant really comprehend , so we cant judge such a choice.
That said , i dont think that MJ or Kobe wanted the title less when they were getting MVP by MVP but no ring. But they stayed at their teams and achieved higher level of greatness when they did get the ring(s) too.
On the other hand , that may not work , Barkley , Stockton-Malone etc.
Also GOAT is taken , forever , Lebron is smart enough to know it , there will never be another MJ. So why chase it , its impossible. Kobe for example , looks like he didn't quite know it , so he tried to chase it. Nice try for sure...
Bottom line : lets focus on basketball , i cant wait to see how this team will perform , gonna be sick!

4725

Fail , its way too hot , it was 9pm and still temperature was 31'C / ~88'F
Couldn't keep up with 70+% pace , last 3 sprints of each set was ~50%
Lost ~2,5lbs of sweat in 30 mins!

god, i love those heat conditions.. :D

Not me , i much prefer cold. Im the guy that stands with AC at full power and still sweating when everyone else is like "close the damn thing , its too cold!"
Well , for athletic stuff i like some temperature , but that thing is too much , especially with some increased humidity.
Perfect conditions for me are ~25'C / ~77'F
