Serial is cool. The first season was about a murder case where a HS kid was convicted of killing his gf and sentenced to life in prison, but it's not at all clear that he did it.

Current season is about Bowe Berghdal. I'm not quite sure what the point is (that was kind of the problem in the first season, too, tbh) but it's such a hell of a story. And Sarah Koenig is a good reporter.

this is a cool vid. chick ends up squatting 300 @158. also, that's my old gym. the blond guy who pops up a couple times in the vids (he's spotting her at one point) is a 600+ squatter, 700+ DLer. strong as all fucking get-out.

i agree with merrick again, only thing i'll add is about ultimate: of course improving SLRVJ will help. skying for a catch or D (and always catch your Ds, of course) is always going to be quicker and easier off one leg, and if you can improve your efficiency at getting up off one it can only help. it's weird to even think about DLRVJ to high-point a disc in a game, outside of a "500" situation on a huck where everyone is slowing down into a clump. that happens, of course, and you're tall so i imagine people go to you deep on the regular, but much more often you're going to be trying to sky one on one, or on a swing that gets away from the throw, or something like that.

also, this is voodoo that i have no scientific basis for so take it with a grain of salt, but improving your SLRVJ will also improve your layouts, which of course are basically always SL because they are almost by definition done out of a full sprint.

if i ever go back to ultimate, i'd switch away from focusing on DLRVJ toward sprints and bounds, agility, and SLRVJ, in that order.

WEIGHT: 187.6 (171.6)
SORENESS: none
ACHES/INJURIES: knees a little achey
MENTAL STATE: good

- warm up

- SVJ x 5,5
~29, i think

- SL SVJ x 5,5/leg

- pogo x 10,10,10

- one-step DLRVJ x 5/plant + 2 LR

- three-step SLRVJ x a few

not great, not terrible.

4403
just want to second what merrick said about working outward from a shorter approach, and focusing on accelerating into the plant.

my gym has one of those things but it's lost. i use two pairs of hand towels, folded up. what i should do (will do next time) is stack them longwise across my lap.

i mean yeah it's obviously useless for athletes, but even if i were fattier than i am at the same height and weight it would be ridiculous to say i was overweight. i'm thin.

FFMI (using 10% bf, which i think is a reasonable guess at the moment) i got 22.1/22.2.

WEIGHT: 189 (171 -- heading the right way)
SORENESS: none
ACHES/INJURIES: right hip, ankles a little (?)
MENTAL STATE: good, a little tired

- warm up

- MB toss x 12
not great but better than the other day. will post vid soon of first four throws.

- DL bound x 4,4,4
each set progressively better

- squat 325 x 1; paused 275 x 1,1,1,1,1
325 was too slow for my liking so i backed off. bar popped far off shoulders on every rep.

- hip thrust 275 x 12,12
uncomfortable in the groinal region.

gym closed.

god i'm borderline overweight, 24.4.

there was an op/ed recently in the NYT about how people being overweight doesn't increase morbidity when you look at population-wide data. but then again if i'm almost overweight and chris is overweight by the most widely-accepted metric, then maybe the problem is that the metric is worthless.

it finally snowed here last night. 0 inches of accumulation. but hey, better than rain.

4409
That sucks man, our lab passed away this summer at age 15. :( I use the gym as a retreat, music up and refuse to think anything negative.

thanks chris. i use the gym that way, too, but from time to time whatever is affecting me just has the effect of deadening me or killing motivation. it's always temporary, i'll be back on the horse tonight.

thanks man.

WEIGHT: ??? (172.8)
SORENESS: none
ACHES/INJURIES: none
MENTAL STATE: dead, combination of tired and drained/sad

- warm up

- MB toss x 12
really bad, only got a few past the white line.

- rest of workout

i think this is the second time recently i've bagged a workout because of feeling dead. gonna give myself a pass today because of izzie but that's not a good habit.

also, added 3 more lbs to the weight vest last night, which i think is all it can take. not sure where the other 2 lbs are supposed to go, there are no more slots.
