Next time just PM somebody instead of creating a new thread. You could also find a lot of suggestions on other threads by using the search tool.

Nice okay,

I notice that I build some muscle in my inner pecs after a bounding session, that arm swing is quite a powerful one during bounds.

When I first started training single leg VJ, my shin would hurt and  I couldn't use any speed in my approach. So I think greater stress would need to be placed on the bones, maybe 1 footed stair jumps too those hit that area well without as much eccentric forces.

Damn man 130?

I've heard reports that juice fasting (vegetables juices) could maintain strength, but who knows.

No it's a good study, but it's odd, because who ever promoted using 90% 1RM for hypertrophy. They should have used 65%.

Also, I read the full text a while ago, and the 90% 1RM induced the same increases in protein synthesis 24 hours after the workout, but not at 48.

Since the total work performed from the 30% was so much greater, maybe the correct conclusion is that per amount of work performed, 90% 1RM is better for protein synthesis. Id I remember correctly they did take short rest periods right? That would play a huge role.

So the conclusions of the study are one and many

Nice, it's 20th street NW btw, I realized today there is NE, SW, and SE, bu tof course only one Bally's

Yeah well there is a court on the way to Whole Foods on P street, about 1600 P street, I may go do some jump testing/ shoot some hoops since I got a client at 7AM, then no one till 430

I'll PM u my number

Nice I realized again you're in DC ( been seeing the signs for the tournaments all over the place on the metro). I work in DC at Bally's.

Anyway why do you foam roll before and not after a workout?

which bally's? i foam roll before because it makes the workout feel better. i do SMR on off days, too.

L street, and 21st. There aren't too many Bally's in DC. So what is SMR? I've neglected recovery techniques most of my life

I've seen his vids before and he is cool. I liked his article on jumper's knee

What part of your back..?

I've had sore traps and upperback from bounding before but only if I took a long break from it.

For shins I recommend drop jumps (depth drops rather, altitude drops, w/e). Worked for me once so i think it can work not sure if it's the best advice but try it. I get shin pain sometimes from one footed VJs, also this may be due to excessive quad action so the tibia gets the blunt of it rather than the hips

Try isolating your hips, gett glutes/hip out and bend over spine straight until you feel a stretch in your hams and the angle between your spine and the ground is like 30 degrees or less. Then try jumping like that. Maybe you're squatting down instead of back and don't have strong hamstrings.

Also try evrything I said with a kettlebell, swinging it forward rather than up.

D-Rose:

Why do we always try to analyze people? You're trying to figure out 'why I had to say it like that.'

Get the f*** over it. I actually have improved on getting to the main point, the problem is that there are quite a few points to make...I would say everything I said in a college weight room actually since I aim to share my different thoughts as much as possible without those extraneous worries like "what are my demographics, I should know my demographics so people don't shit on me..." It's again a confidence issue.

If you ever think something sounds 'gay' or 'new age,' realize those are your subconscious programs and judgments. You're basically a robot not a free thinker when you react like that. So you're not thinking, you're reacting. We all do this (look up the amygdala). What I have taught myself to do and preach to others is to detach yourself from your preconceived notions. Takes lots of practice and it won't make sense overnight, maybe over a year...

But it is still relevant to peoples' goals on this forum. Learning these techniques and viewing things openly and non-judgmentally could take your training to a higher level, and help you absorb more information whether it be related to nutrition, or power training. Just some more food for thought.

I could elaborate more, because the way you think is really closed.. you said I almost sound like a 'scammer.' Your perception of a scam is dependent on the open-mindedness and your attachments to your beliefs and generally an inability to relax and view information without judgment and emotion. That's what most of the 'call 'em out' threads demonstrate.

Same I love sprints and I believe it strengthens the ankles in a way that can transfer to jumps (at top speed sprinting that is).

Acceleration:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SebLUQFWFz0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SebLUQFWFz0</a>

1. Work on keeping your heels low, as opposed to cycling the heels as they do near higher velocities and top speed. Takes some strength but kick the feet out for the first 6-7 steps. Maurice did it well in this video. In other videos of asfa you can clearly see his start is utilizing this technique. The theory is that minimzing the distance the foot travels, by keeping the motion as horizontal as possible for the first several steps, will result in faster block start.
Asafa:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_vPi01jpBY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_vPi01jpBY</a>

You can see what I mean by heels low and kicking legs out more.

Top speed:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaM3wF6MRto" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaM3wF6MRto</a>

1. Watch the slow mo. It's mostly a strength/activation thing to be able to run like bolt. If you squat too often, and end up being quad dominant, you won't extend the knee like that.

2.

THis is HPC sport's video, it's nice but it's too based in science and HPC isn't producing the sprinters under 10 or anything. They emphasize step over drive down. I've done this before but I generate too much vertical impulse and I run faster looking down sometimes and kicking the foot out rather than knee up.

THis video also talks boaut generating higher vertical velocities, probably based on studies that vertical velocities are important for top speed sprinting, but that is hotly debated.

Edit: I fixed the embedding

This might be the most harcore rise against song? I probably haven't listened to them as much as you.

This helps me sometims on max jumps. I like melody though over words.

This is def my fav harcore/PR song (headphones could make a big difference): The entire album is fantastic

Strength, Power, Reactivity, & Speed Discussion / Re: Foot power.
« on: August 05, 2011, 11:09:22 pm »
The reason you feel your ankles/calves load more in spikes is because spiked shoes act as "jumpsoles".  Meaning - the spike length in the front part of the foot creates a forefoot loaded walk/run mechanics and the heel will be in the air if the foot is parallel to the ground.

So they basically act like "shorter jumpsoles", making that one additional benefit of spiked shoes.

Yup. DOn't feel much calf load, ankle/achilles, I don't think I should feel anything there or if I'm even using it. Also because there is barely any heel so it does not act as a brake but allows me to transfer force without losing it as my nike frees do

^ This is a great example of how people live with a front.
JC is trying to assert his dominance by insulting someone else, but he is merely expressing his insecurity in being called gay himself, or expressing his true thoughts, open to interpretation and perhaps destructive criticism of which he is afraid, perhaps due to his past complications with ED or w/e that was, (it's okay, my first gf sometimes couldn't give me a hard on, just wasn't sexually turned on by her much, so there are many reasons), but mostly just because of the front he has in order to gain status. I am not using these tactics to gain status, because my perception of status is generated in my own mind, not in the minds of forum members.

See I'm not speaking maliciously, this is just what I am thinking and I am most probably right. Most people on this forum are living in fear, and promote mob mentality, use pictures/emoticons to assert their dominance by attempting to ridicule others when they themselves are incredibly weak inside.

This is all good and all, but please don't assume and generalize that MOST people on this forum are like this.  Have you taken the time to get to know each individual on this forum?  No you haven't.  I'm a sociology major, and I KNOW a lot of people are the way you describe, but at the same time, it is not cool or fair to generalize a group of people this way.  Just because the case may be common, does not mean there isn't anyone out there who has no self-confidence issues.

Either way, calm down bro.

You are absolutely right, i addressed this in above post.

And I was very calm while writing the post. Maybe what you mean is that you are uncomfortable with how much I am thinking. Well that's the way I am. That's what I like, what I don't like is ranting, using emoticons, because it impairs cognition.

The people who need to clam down are those who don't understand what I said and are getting all upset, because it should be given some thoughts, I could request that people try to detach themselves from their feelings (a great way to view new information), but I'm not 100% set out on making people think like me.

The MAIN point is that, Adarq gets shit on starting strength because he puts out an equal attitude in some of his videos, belittling others, calling people pussies, etc. I think it's cool, but you will always get hate as a result. That answers adarq's question in the first post. If you want to maintain integrity of staying on topic in this forum, maybe we should just end with that knowledge, unless you want to intelligently argue out some opinions instead of using your amygdala unconcsiously to generate emoticons. If the latter, I'm done here.

Edit: done as in with this thread..
