- warm up; run 5k in 19:13 PR!

- stretch

a little blown that i missed it by so little. came out to the C&O canal figuring that it’d be a nice flat place to do an out-and-back. turned out the section i went to was a downhill-uphill situation (not that steep but 23m of gain, all in the second half) and i just ran out of gas in the final km. back to training and better luck next time. and that'll teach me not to scout a route before i try to PR on it.

damn!!

solid though. great work! that unexpected elev is kinda cool though.. turned it into a legit race-like effort hah.

you're definitely right there. pretty cool. :ibrunning: :ibrunning: :ibrunning:

i might do a race in nov .. just going to jog it tho. but will be fun getting back out there. miss it.

High rep nation!

yup!!

HRN leggo.

i'm only going to lift light + high rep .. so whatever becomes light, that i can rep 15+ times, i'll do it. nothing heavier than that on squats.

time to get my legs back. jaja.

2020-10-17

with the power rack now at it's new home, i did 4 small workouts throughout the day. each one:

3-5 sec paused dead hang ng pullups: BW x ? (8 ish)

full dips + burnout hold at the top: BW x 4-5 ish

ssbar "half" squats: 75 lb bar x 15 each time

also did some other stuff.. (chinups on the other bar etc)

just going to keep doing small high freq workouts for a while. i do good on it.

but ya.. plan is to try and put some muscle back on but stay light.

glutes/hams felt those empty ssbar bar squats .. feels good.

wanted to run this weekend but my left heel is pretty painful. believe it or not, i think it's from using my foot to open this garbage can i have .. ie using the "pedal" to open it. porcelain tile is really hard, and opening it w/ my foot (as you're supposed to) puts pressure on my right inner heel.. and i only do this with that foot - and it hurts now when i do it.

lol how weak/lame is that.

 :derp:

and noted re: your algeria connection. guess i jumped to a conclusion because i saw somewhere that your dad had a french dad and an algerian mother. i have a new-ish buddy up here who's family were pied noir and fled back to europe before he was born. guess it was just on the brain.

ah gotcha.. i'll have to ask my dad about my grandma again - i forget that side of it. could have some pied noir roots.. sad that i don't know for sure ;f

holy shit adarq i knew your dad was a piano player but that's a pretty amazing (and sad) connection.

ya man. even though I was very young, i remember when it happened. i remember it being rough for alot of people. my dad & jaco were really close.

Quote
the other piano player on continuum is...herbie hancock! cool.

wonder if you ever met him as a baby/toddler.

nope never met Herbie. I think my dad met up with him a few years ago, when Herbie was doing a concert in the area. they are still friends but seldom communicate.

my dad left that intense jazz scene around the time I was born, presumably because he wanted to have more of a normal family life. Some of his close friends (ie jaco) got sucked deep into that scene, unfortunately. Lots of shady leaches trying to buddy up w/ the musicians, no matter what the genre.

Quote
also, i was today years old when i learned that you're half algerian/pied noir.

hah nah !!

my grandpa (father's dad) was a Civil Engineer. he was building bridges or something in Algeria when my dad was born. Not sure if that still classifies him as pied-noir etc.

My grandpa was pretty slick.. He knew Arabic, Spanish, French, English, and Creol. He was the one I helped take care of (w/ my dad) during that most aggressive dunk period of mine, the 3 years of anger management dunk fest.

on a slightly interesting tangent: after 9/11, the FBI came and interviewed my dad - because of the Algeria connection. I remember when they were out front in a few SUV's talking to my dad. So I went out there and interrupted, and then they left seconds after.

but ya, my dad is pretty nuts musically. he's legit af with jazz. he's also got that "perfect pitch" stuff. iirc, he was playing jazz clubs at like 14.. pretty nuts. hah.

pc man!
