Basketball / Re: NBA Trade Talk

I read that report too Acole and agree with 99% of it. Not to mention cmonnnnn this is the NBA right? They dont have the resources to measure these guys that day?!?! 😑

The 1% is having watched a few Kay Felder highlights....the dude jumps 40s. Easy. Hell i dont even know wtf theyre saying that his reach was 'ridiculously low'. He's 5'9 with a 7'5 reach? I may have 'short' arms as well (my wingspan tip.to tip is 1.5" lower than my height....most hoopers have longer wingspans than height) but he seems damn close to me?!?! Im 5'10 with a 7'6!

Having compared his reach to mine...and knowing my vert...I call BS on the article :) lol

Carry on

Thanks guys..its a weird situation but im going to try and make the best of it.

Squatted Monday night laaaate. Like...got home at 4am lol i work from 9-6 m-f. So today sucked. :)

Weighed in at 179.5lbs. Eek.

Squats 135 x8, 225 x4, 315 x1, 365 x1, 385 x1

5x5 at 315.
1x20 at 135 for speed.

2 circuits of BSS, static lunges, extensions and calf raises. Bunch of box jumps. Some core. Not bad for how late it was.

Plan for today was to go do drills after work then lift back/biceps but...came off the court to a text saying she wanted to watch a movie so im back in our town house tonight. Confusing but nice. Ill do back and bis tomorrow after some 5v5 with some speed work.

Went through about 45 mins of drills and shooting and started to feel better and better (minus the tiredness from my legs lol) so i went to the other courts and played pickup and played lights out. Granted not great comp but i couldnt miss. NBA 3s...step back 20 footers, got in the lane easy and finished. Felt good. A few guys said it looked like id been getting back at it so that was nice! Missed a big baseline dunk from outside yhe lane when i lost the ball and tried to cuff it :( No bueno. And had a good opportunity to dunk on 3 guys late in the last game but the score was tied to i literally just pushed it in lol! Spent about 15-20 mins tossing oops to myself after. Timing is way off but im getting up better. Easily 43-44 repeatedly. Im happy with that this quick! Got to try to keep it progressing! I want that 48" mark!!

Only have a few minutes but...you all forget Wilt. :)

Well....this week has been all the motivation i need. Guess thats what happens during the worst week of your life. Small short recap...

1. Skip lifting and training/shooting to be with the wife because something felt off.

2. Get told Monday that my ex is trying to get full custody of our daughter and won't let me see her. (We had a verbal agreement since she didnt have the money for a lawyer when we seperated...go me for being nice)

3. Have a small arguement...lengthy discussion about the ONE thing the wife and i cant seem to compromise on Thursday night.

4. Wake up to divorce papers on the kitchen table Saturday morning and a note from her.

5. Watched her cry every day since then because she knows she doesnt want a divorce but she cant see another way.

6. Get fucking BLOWN out yesterday 81-47. I shot HORRIBLY and so did everyone else.

Now...everything but 6 is pretty self-explanatory and im hoping the wifey comes around and we work this out so prayers or whatever you believe in would be nice. :)

So the game... they decide i should tip...i win the tip over a 6'7 guy...im shocked. I have to play pg because theyre picking up full and no one else has the handle to break it. Sure enough extended 2-3 zone. So i go pg mode...pass pass pass. Not working. Down 15-0 like that. Say hell with it. Pull up 17 foot j. 15-2. Block a jumper. 3 straight assists. 19-10 now. Hit a 3. 25-13. This isn't going well. Then i went cold and no one would cut in the zone. Couldnt hit at ALL as a team. Halftime comes...its bad. I say f it. Im moving to the 2. Have my 3 and other guard bring it up together. I go into scoring mode. Shots.still.off. but...theyre trapping the top of the 2-3 to try to keep me out of the lane. Not working im getting in the lane...drawing the bigs...no ones cutting and the kickouts to shooters arent going down. Ugh. Then it happened...i catch an elbow straight to the jaw. Right in front of a ref. Dude actually stopped playing because he knew he hit me hard. No call. Im pissed. Probably woke me up tho because i stopped thinking and let go. Call for the ball and the next possesions go...step back 3. And 1 layup over 6'8 guy. NBA 3. Corner 3. Missed poster over 6'8 guy. And a fadeawy 15 footer. 13-4 personal run but it didnt matter. We got crushed.

My stat line according to the books. 20 pts on 8-14fg (4-10 3pt), 0-1ft (smh), 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 blocks a steal and 1 turnover. Good numbers but i played terrible.

Tossed a few lobs to take out some frustration and the 6'8 guy starts dunking with me :) couple 2 handers off glass. 2 hand Tomahawk off one step (wtf...ok...didnt think i could get that currently). Then a self oop that i got UP on. Consensus in the gym was i was 4-6" from the rim and it FELT like 45-46". Missed it because my forearm was on the front of the rim and i backironed it. At that point i said ok...and measured the goal. Lol! Its 10 but damn that floor is amazing because i still dont feel 100%. Time to train this week.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Single Jumper says hello

Welcome!!! How much do you weigh?

396
Bahh. Other team didnt show today so we played some pickup half court games. This rec center is small...only one court but its nice. I watched some of the game before and after when ours was supposed to be and wasnt very impressed. Bunch of 6'2-6'8-9 guys with shaky handle and spotty jumpers. A few guys you could tell where shooters and maybe 1 or 2 'athletic guys'. Sorry, you arent atheltic if you're 6'8, roll in the lane and catch a perfect lob with no D and lay it up. :/ Basically theyre packing the paint with bigs and semi extending a zone out to the college 3 line. Our team is quite short...and not very athletic so its going to be tough but i think ill be ok. Seems either the floor is bouncy, the rim is 9'10-11, or Im getting bouncy again quicker than i thought. Wasnt going to hard on our pickup games because i could feel the eyes on me after 1 or 2 plays where i went about 75%, one a crossover into a layup over the rim and a goaltend of a floater that i caught about 8" over the rim. When i went back out for the check ball everyone on the sideline just stared  Quick note on something that doesnt matter at all... I was a definite minority and i saw some whispers after the goal tend...this made me smile  8). Handle felt better today for sure. Jumper is coming around albeit slowly. Jumping...well i easy 2 hand dunked off one step so idk. Weird. It FEELS like the goal is low but maybe thats me progressing quicker than i thought?

Either way...the team we play next week has 4 guys 6'6-6'9 amd won by 54 today lol! Our tallest is 6'4. :)

397
I'll give it 4 weeks from Monday to see how it works from a body composition, strength, and recovery standpoint

398
Going light on deadlifts after skipping them the week before...bad idea. Weak as fuck today on them. Failed 445. 405 x3 was ughhh. Dammit. Did a few 405 singles and some hang cleans and said f it. Wofe could tell i was pissed at the gym. Tried to love on me but that made it worse because i needed babying lol

So...no more skipping. Going to do 3x5 or 5x3 idk which for bench, overhead press, squat and dead during this league and move assistance to all 3/4x8 heavy for upper body and 3x12-15 on lower body. Had been doing a lot more upper (4x15/12/10/10) and it was working but it takes a lot out of me and i doubt it plus hoops will go over well. Gah. This has all been backwards since March-ish. Have to right the ship.

BW at 185 and i look ok. Probably 9ish %BF. Definitely not 8 but im still decently striated and vascular so i doubt over 10. (Plus ive seen myself at low 8s all the way to the low teens lol)

399
Update. Skipped chest/tris last week and went light on deads because i only had 30 mins. Got a call Friday afternoon at work that i league i had forgotten about was starting up sunday...luckily we had a bye the first week because holy shit im OFF. Badly. Might put upper body on maintenence only and really focus on my skills this week. Apparently weve been placed in the 'a' league because we have one guy who played a few years at a local small school. So we'll be playing current college guys and overseas guys. Id normally be extremely amped up but im actually disgusted by my rusty jumper and handle right now. SMH.

Anyway. Plan is to put upper body on maintenence  (as stated) and cut 5x5 to a 3x5 and cut back assistance work for a few weeks til im more adapted to playing full court again.

Squatted tonight at 185lbs BW.

135 x8, 225 x4, 315 x1, 365 x1,  395 x1
5x5 at 330lbs. Last rep was a doozy. Much struggle.
1x20 at 135.

1 circuit of assistance stuff. No core.

Shot around for 30 mins outside. Jumper is garbage. Got sick and puked in grass. First time thats happened that i can remember. Interesting.

Ahhh. Im at work so ill go much more in depth later and reason why and how but quick takes:

Thanks guys :) for not burning me at the stake lol

True. Kobe and MJ were assholes, LBJ doesnt appear to be...but ummm Magic the player as a role model? Nooo. Go check some Magic Johnson stories about his parties in the 80s lol

I do think footwork is completely trainable. Shooting...not so much as you're older as you cant reinvent form completely. Certain bodies and mobility issues come to mind. Thus its trainable to an extent.

And yea...the flopping is ridiculous. All over the NBA. LBJ is just a monster and still does it so its noticed more

Basketball / Re: NBA Playoffs: 2015-2016

lbj's huge ego (calling himself the king, the decision, calling himself the best player last year when he clearly wasn't anymore), the flopping, acting, and the lack of notable improvement in skills over the years.  his shitty footwork, tons of non-called insane travels...  he is elite i'll agree but i just don't like him.  never did, never will.

he simply hasn't grown that much (skill wise) he's the same every year.  i don't like his game one bit.

Reallyyyyy not sure why this is being down voted when its factaully quite true. Respect for Lebron for the amazing player he has BUT lets be real here: IF LeBron had MJ or Kobes work ethic we wouldnt be having this conversation or that other one about whot the GOAT. It would be LBJ...hands down. Hes been blessed with a natural athleticism unseen in his sport at his size. But his game HASNT improved except one area. Kobe came back and was better each year at SOMETHING. Same for MJ. They put in work. Lebron? Well, hes said he'll be in the gym over the summer when he has time. Sorry, for a guy with quite a few flaws in his game thats unacceptable to me.

I'll break it down further since im sure someone will ask  :)

The only thing LBJ has gotten better at is  knowing WHEN to shoot the 3 which has given people the surface appearance hes become a better shooter. He hasnt. Hes taking less 3s year by year which not only raises his 3pt fg% but has a marked relationship to overall fg%. This is smart because after 13 years in the league his jumper is still unreliable. So: smart that a 6'9 265lb monster shoots more inside, but it is unacceptable he hasnt worked on his j.

Speaking of shooting, his ft% hasnt trended upward at all. By this point he should easily shoot 83-87% and be dead nuts reliable at the stripe late in games. Hes not. Not once have the cavs been up 2 late in the game and LBJ gets fouled and you say "oh its over, hes icing this". He misses too many big ones.

Next, the hasnt improved his handle at all. His left is eh for a guy who claims to be a point forward. Force him left and he wants to shoot a one dribble step back jumper. He has not go to perimeter move. He lowers his shoulder and drops his head, granted as long as his athletic abilities hold this is a viable option but as weve seen over the last 2 years...hes lost a step and some bounce. He cant blow by everyone now.

He has no go to post move. Necessary if he wants to add years to his game. Pretty self explanatory.

His footwork is atrocious. Im not even talking about the blatant non calls on travels to the rim or pivot foot switches. Im speaking of footwork from the triple threat, or on his pull up jumper, or on his crossover/other dribbled moves. His game screams ultra athletic high schooler who never needed to try and develop more because he was head and shoulders better than his peers.

His defense is sub par, notably on ball. Lebron is NOT a defensive 'stopper'. He gets a lot of hype for his D and the only reason I can see why is because Sportscenter loves his chase down blocks. Watch a game and see how exposed he is on perimeter iso's and PnR situations. His defensive fg% and ppp against on those is nowhere near tops at his position. Watch a game and you can see him give up on plays religiously. He gambles on passing lanes as well like Steph does (without the detractors screaming about it) but comes up with a lot less steals. Point...his D is way over hyped.

I could pull up a bunch of numbers and links to people smarter at this than I but...you get the point. Is he great? Yes. But hes nowhere near where he should be and his flaws will become more and more evident as he gets older and loses his natural ability to dominant athletically. He still has time to develop his footwork, handle and jumper but i dont see it happening based on his work ethic historically.

Dont get me started on his ego. Yes, every great has one but good god...I never saw Larry or Kareem or MJ or Kobe or frankly ANYONE great nickname THEMSELVES. You bust your ass, dominate, and let the media and fans hash out a name for you. You certainly dont name yourself the King your first years in the league or call yourself the best player alive when your DOWN in the finals. Yes, you cant think it, youre SUPPOSED to but you never SAY it! Fuck.

Debates now open lol

BTW my call...GSW in 6. Very definitely can go 7. Cavs arent getting enough respect from the media and fans right now.

Workout #1 in the books!

BW at 185.5lbs

Squats:

135 x10, 225 x5, 315 x1, 385 x1 (was supposed to be 365 oops), 395 x1. Wasnt as clean as i wanted...probably from the 385 rep.
5x5 at 325lbs.
1x20 at 135lbs for speed.

3x circuit of x10 BSS, x15 SL  leg press, x12 SL leg extensions and 20 rep calf raises.

Core and box jumps between circuits. Jumps felt much better.

Oh ate pretty well today, clean and moderate portions. Time for dinner amd stretching.

403
Alrighty...lets see. I wrote down a new program for the next 6 weeks. Goal is to lose 6lbs (down to 182 from current 188) and add 20lbs each to the big 3: squat, dead, bench/overhead press. That give me 3 weeks to really hit lacking areas before vacation lol!

Experimented with Kroc rows last night while doing back and biceps... I like. Will be incorporating heavy Krocs in on bacl day for sure! Now....time for pool...weights later.

404
Squatted tonight....dead. lol BW at 186lbs so trending down again.

Warmed up...some very eh box jumps. Smh.

135 x8, 225 x4, 315 x1, 365 x1, 395 x1. Interesting how the 395 popped up vs the 365. Cool.

5x5 at 315. Trying to keep it explosive.
Did some high rep junk at 135lbs (20 rep), very explosive, mostly trying to get used to exploding through the ROM completely. Need to break out the bands.

3 Assistance circuits of BSS (135 x10 per leg), SL.leg press, leg extension and high rep calf raises. Tons of core and some much better box jumps at the end.

^Agreed. Porter has dumb bounce but cmon man....same dunk not to mention Shaq ducked a bit.

I gotta give it to Jordan.  Dobbs fire dunk is...eh. Guy missed. Jordan not only had a higher degree of difficulty but he (and dobbs) hit theirs on the first try...
