WHere is that quote from.

If you want to go on a strict diet it will help, and is a good idea, but a strict diet isn't necessary if you're already pretty overweight and consume a lot of refined sugars/carbs, oils. Just reducing those and eating healthier will automatically get you lean.

PR squat 265. Can probably do more if my lower back wasn't so sore from deadlifting heavy.

You're strong man. good work. I did not realize you were a thrower, once I did.. I am wondering, is all that lifting typical for that throw? Doesn't seem like the strength really has transferred into the vert yet. Are you planning on doing more jumps and less lifting soon?

335
GLuteus medius activation. I have completely flat feet, without any weight issues. Right foot is slightly flatter and knee problems are mostly on the right side if I have any. After working on the gluteus medius strength through some simple isometric exercises, and making sure my knees track properly while squatting, the knee health has improved.

336
I built my squat strength low bar style and I think that left a lot of quad/knee development out. Partial work like this may be helping to address an imbalance that is now showing up as I switched to a more quad-dominant style of squatting.

Hmm. That could be it. Or  lack of MSM.

Answer these four assessment questions:
How does front squatting feel for you?
 Pistol squats?
Can you sit in a squat position comfortably on your heels?
What about on your toes?

Heavy ass quarter squats could be dangerous if the strength isn' there. Might as well go lighter and get sed to the form. But fuck, you said bending into a deadlift made your knees shaky? That's probably something else then. High rep curls are a symptomatic treatment. THis may be some serious connective tissue disorder. Take some MSM and green vegetables, reduce ALL wheat, any foods you feel are inflammatory. Milk is gone. Turmeric. But I'm no expert jus sayin

337
yes it is. MSM ROCKS WOOOO

338
Just take MSM or something. Our diets are apaprently very deficient in sulfur.

I've had cracking knees for over 1.5 years (i think). Last year (as in fall of 2010), my knees were so weak I stopped jump trianing and only sprinted but it ddidn't make it better. After taking MSM for just a few days they feel WAY stronger. But thtat doesn't mean it'll work for you. Your doctor would probably put you on some pill, but I suggest MSM. I take powder found it at whole foods.

You are now resolved of your sins.
And if his vert measured 28 standing and 33 running that's not bad. He probably doesn't have much to worry abut then. I was assuming it was a 22. This is why arguments without any facts are so stupid

Thanks guys, but I created this thread, because after I measured everything it was only 31.'' I had thought it would be 34, but nope. It's very surprising to me because that pipe I was reaching for measured in at 10'1.5'' (reach is 7'6.5''). THat's weird also because it looks WAY higher than any rim I've tried to grab.

Also when I measured my reach, I reached up as high as I possibly could, straining muscles in my side/back. I think many people underestimate their reaches to inflate their jumps. Anyway, that's all. I'm gonna keep it consistent and just worry about seeing progress on a monthly/biweekly basis and get my squat up. It was good thugh for me to see the numbers because they tell the truth. I can still hardly believe it though, because 5 months ago, I was looking at that pipe thinking "woah it would be crazy to touch that standing," well not really! Lol

Edit: if you want to beat a dead horse and discuss my form/choice of exercises, do it in my journal. Stay on topic. Also only the first 1/3 of this video contains jumps.

His vert is very unathletic compared to all the cone drills. He doesn't look like he knows how to load his legs properly. Not much arm swing, bending completely at the knees, not much glute/hip action

and he doesn't give a flying fuck because learning to do those things will probably not have any impact on his basketball playing abilities, which are world-class elite.

BULLFUCKINGSHIT. Unless you've talked to him in person you're a moron.

i was exaggerating a little, but really, are you seriously contradicting me on that? why should he care? if he wanted to improve on "loading his legs properly" and "swinging his arms in a manner that is pleasing to random people on the internet," well, he's an elite athlete with nothing to do but work on being better at being elite. so he could do it. but i seriously doubt he cares. in the hierarchy of things that will make jimmer fredette a better basketball player, which is what i assume matters to him because IT'S HIS FUCKING PROFESSION, learning to do a better static, standing vertical jump is pretty goddamn low. actually, getting a better standing vert is low on the list of ANYONE who is trying to get better at basketball. absolute SVJ ability simply doesn't matter very much.

you think your shit smells like roses, man, but really it just smells like shit.

So do you. In fact, most people who accuse others of something are the same thing themself. Except I don't think my shit smells like roses or whatevr the fucking fuck that means. What were discussing is opinion. Congratulations for saying "I exaggerated a little," that shows me you understand that you are starting to ameliorate your judgment. You didn't get my point though

I wasn't talking about his ARM FUCKING SWING as the main thing he should work on. He could benefit from whatever will improve his VJ, and not just SVJ (which matter quite a bit in ability to get rebounds), but vertical in general, clearly you missed the fact taht his one footed vertical is also below average. I was not condemming the athlete at all, he probbly is a great basketball player.

So what you're saying is you doubt that basketball players care about their vertical jump. That is what I was referring to as BULLSHIT. Because
a) Sure, they may not need to work on it, but that does NOT IMPLY THEY DON'T WANT A HIGHER VERTICLA LEAP. LOGICAL FALLACY FTW. GOOD JOB.

And that's my point. You don't know if he doesn't WANT a higher vert. Get a me a list of bball players who've said, NAH I DON'T WANT TO JUMP HIGHER THAT SUCKS... Going from the low 20s or wherever he is, + 5'', and 10'' would vastly imprpove his game. He would be able to get more rebounds, dunk better, and score more points. He can improve his vert 2-3 inches just by changing his form, another 1'' by learning to move faster, and the rest from becoming more powerful which includes moving faster
