- daily routine-ish

worked out with my mom today, last time i'll have a chance to do that before moving. she cried partway through, so we took a break and talked about shit. life has been really, really stressful for her recently -- my brother moving back to our town and still just being the double-handful he always is, plus now my grandmother has gotten really sick, is in the hospital, and probably can't move back into her apartment for a while because she clearly can't take care of herself right now. and of course, me moving away is hard for her; she'll miss me a lot and i've been physically close for a long time.

i have more reflections about this but they'll have to wait. gotta get some dinner together.

gotta find another way to do weighted pistols

why? there are like 8 bajillion ways to strengthen your legs that are easier to load. or you could do more reps. plenty of ways to progress.

at least you're not in haiti.

Mate it's all 1st world problems here. We've got nothing on the rest of the world when if comes to natural disasters.

not to say it doesn't suck when a huge storm hits, though! best way to deal with it is to be like this guy: https://www.facebook.com/lane.pittman/videos/vb.542376723/10153984485731724/?type=2&theater.

yesterday:

- tennis x 1 hour
was windy as hell. ball doing funny things on the toss-level windy. so it was a sloppy session, but still fun and worked up a little sweat.

combination of post-party sluggishness and wanting to maximize time with my family before i leave in one week (!) meant no gym.

so as to cut off the acole thread hijack: i think you should email the >35 track and field group. if you explain that you're an amateur/noob and are having difficulty finding training partners and competitions, they might let you come by and train anyway. i mean, you're canadian, y'all are nice. worst case scenario, they send a polite "no."

vancouver. yea i did some googling but only found a track and field club for people 35+. that'll be more than a decade for me before i can join lol.

i think it's worth emailing them. lots of people are nice, they might let you come train anyway if you explain your situation.

that is one goofy-ass street grid. normally when streets are numbered it's because they're consecutive to each other, not with 82nd branching out of 81st!

last night:

- mangled daily routine

today:

WEIGHT: ???
SORENESS: upper hamstrings
ACHES/INJURIES: none
MENTAL STATE: blah, woke up with pre-migraine and took the last of my medication for it. it worked but i'm still not 100%.

- warm up

- skater jump x 20,10

- full-court SLRVJ x 2/leg
just awful, haha

- one-step RVJ x 5
bad

- DLRVJ x 5,5,5
quite bad, so did these more or less consecutively in sets instead of as singles.

- high-rear-foot BSS x 20/leg

- stretch

ran out of time because i'm having a going-away party tonight and needed to pick up some stuff before getting ready and heading over to my buddy's place. if i'm not too devastatingly hung over tomorrow i'll jump again.

"45 45 45 25" is a hilarious notation for 365

cool that you have amateur track and field competitions btw. we don't have any here, and i already graduated highschool, so i missed my chance for all that stuff.

yea, that sucks that they missed your time. try this out though if you wanna self time yourself though:

where do you live? there aren't bi-weekly comps in my area (metro DC) but there are a few all-comers meets over the course of the summer and a couple of indoor ones in the winter. had to do a bit of googling to find them but they're there.

WEIGHT: ???
SORENESS: abs a little (from the fucking, bow chicka bow wow)
ACHES/INJURIES: right ankle, everything
MENTAL STATE: good

- warm up

- SL SVJ x 5/leg

- drop-step jump x 5,5

- MB OH toss x 5,5
surprisingly powerful

- paused squat 275 x 3,3

- DB row 70 x 12+3+3+3/arm

- dip x 12+3+3+3

everything a bit stiff an achey, that's what i get for taking so many days off.

@lbss & @adarqui
Agree on fat shaming. If someone is out there trying to improve themselves then fantastic and good on then. Like adarqui I've been skinny shamed for most of my life although it never really bothered me.

I'm not sure if I sound like a douche when I say this but my main issue with anyone entering an athletic endeavour is settling for mediocrity. We can't all be world beaters but we should understand where we stand in the grand scheme of things and be comfortable using ourselves as our main source of competition to be better every day. This is the issue with AOA. There are two running groups in my area (predominately women in their 30's and 40's) who celebrate their mediocrity and shame those who strive to be better. They're also the first ones to call themselves athletes and marathoners even if they finish in 5-6 hours. Just because you can run doesn't make you a runner.

bolded is the only part that matters, to me. if they want to call themselves athletes and celebrate their mediocrity, who cares? if they want to slag on other people for trying harder then fuck them.

your metabolism really does slow down when you're eating below maintenance. so what previously felt like a maintenance level of calories, or even a below-maintenance level, can become a surplus.
