ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Weight lifting shoes
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:32:36 am »
totally, I wouldn't worry so much about the height of the heel. I got my adidas power perfect IIs purely because it was the easiest option for me. I'm very happy with them and they make squats/deadlifts/jump snatches etc... feel a lot easier and better.
I hope to hit 2.5bw in the next few months (82kg/180 lbs bw)

I have read good things about the ironworks shoes although they've proven to be rather difficult to get hold of (I was reading in forums that they were discontinued and these were posts from 2009).

I've ordered some of these instead http://www.sugarrays.co.uk/shop/adidas_power_perfect-ii-weightlifting-shoe.html

I'm looking forward to trying them out when they arrive, hopefully will improve my lifting ;D

If you wanted any of the shoes they do here they might ship to Romania, it's an option on when you're saying your address and they say they ship internationally.

sweet :) it all sounds good.

I think I'll stick to getting some actual weightlifting shoes, I would get the VS ones but I'd have to get them imported and I don't really want to do that.

when I get paid I'll get some adidas ones, just cos of the name really although everything I've owned made by adidas has been good so I reckon it'll be cool.

Thanks for your input, guys.

Peace

haha yeah, I never thought of wearing dress shoes. I guess they would be quite similar. I know that mine are pretty hard although I doubt I'll take them to the gym with me :P I can imagine the looks I would get.

I think what I really want to know is what is the benefit of having the hard sole and heel?

What do you guys think of weight lifting shoes?

my squatting has come along quite well in the last 5 months or so and I've started using about 180 kg (roughly 400 lbs I think) in most of my workouts and I'm hoping to increase that soon. Whenever I pick the weight up and step back I can feel my shoes go squish in the heels (just lifting in basketball shoes atm). Surely that's a sign that my shoes aren't up to the task.

It's always nice to have gear that's designed for a certain task but weightlifting shoes are a bit pricey for me although if it's really important I could deal with the one off expense.

Are there any alternatives you could recommend that don't break the bank as much or should I just go for the real deal?

I've read that you should use shoes that have flat soles when lifting although the weightlifting shoes I've seen have a raised heel...

Good luck, you could always get in the pest removers like they do in family guy

Article & Video Discussion / Re: Interesting Jump snatch variation.
« on: May 21, 2011, 06:47:09 am »
you would have to either buy yourself a new heavier bike or use someone elses, hardly convenient.

For those laughing and being rude about what I said: "it sort of looks like what you would do when you want to do a jump on a bike. Maybe he's trying to simulate that with weights so he can do higher jumps, just a guess"

I never said it was the right thing to do, I was merely suggesting what the guy in the video might be trying to use it for. If you can think of any better reasons he might be doing it then let us know. Who knows, it might be working wonders for him... ? But then again it might not.

hey hey,

I found this site by the bit that calls people out for being scammers and inadvertently found a great place with useful people and free information.
It seems with scamming all you need to know is how to seem like you know what you're talking about and some people will probably bite, which really sucks.

any super awesome info from your trainers/nutritionists you think is worth mentioning without a specific topic?

Nutrition & Supplementation / Re: protein intake limit per meal
« on: April 29, 2011, 06:53:55 pm »
I've heard two things from different people. one is that your body can't absorb a high amount of protein at once so it excretes out most of it. Others think it's fine to eat loads of protein in one sitting.

Personally I think it's better to have your protein gradually throughout the day in smaller meals with protein shakes maybe to make it easier for you.

What I've been doing is making a protein smoothie in the morning to take to work with me. I put in a bunch of frozen mixed summer fruits, about 200g of plain yogurt, some honey to taste (I probably have about 2 tablespoons) and about 2 and a half scoops of unflavoured protein powder.

I usually get up in the morning and have my breakfast (6 weetabix with skimmed milk) at about 6.20 am, have my break at work at about 10 am and have that smoothie along with a little box of pineapple and maybe a few little cakes for extra calories. go to the gym at about 3pm and have a protein shake with 3 scoops afterwards at about 4.20. get home at about 5pm and cook up a huge plate of pasta and grate cheddar cheese on it, let that go down and then cook up 5 fish fingers (not the best thing in the world but I don't really mind) with a bit of ketchup.

I'm trying to gain a little bit of weight/muscle at the mo although I'm still reasonably lean. seems to be working for my strength gains. I weigh 182 lbs.

I went on a bit there didn't I? Hope it's of some help although I'm def not an expert on nutrition (just thought you deserved an answer from someone), this seems to work for me though.

hey hey,

I think we need a few details to be able to help you out with a program like what your past training has been, did it work well for you? what are your typical lifting weights in squat, deadlift etc... and what are your 1 rep max's for those lifts.
How much do you weigh? age?

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Squatting weight and vertical jumping

good question, I have no idea. I just put the bar where it's most comfortable, I'll try it lower next time

Right, got some video of me doing some 1 leg box squats. I did a couple of sets with just the bench they have at my gym in the leg room and then put a 20kg plate on top, the plate made it so much easier. Am I in the right area for depth or is it too low/high? Any lower tho and I feel like I'd be doing a pistol squat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DXGqq8u6j4

my foot is about as far out as I could get it, any further and I just couldn't get up...

I think my knee might be a little screwed, seems to happen when I jump a lot (in the summer when I can actually play basketball outdoors). Only really hurts when I do squats though, will knee wraps or a support help me with that?

hopefully that won't be the case for me. I know when I did them with my right leg i felt it in my hip flexor big time because I could do it with my foot a bit further out than my left.

personally I've not tried step ups with a bar (normally just dumbells in each hand) so I can't fully appreciate your position but unless there's a serious balance issue I would have thought it might just be in your head but who knows, I'll have to give that a try as well and see for myself.

anyway, I'll get some video of me doing one leg box squats in the next few days

update monday: started doing squats today and had that old familiar feeling of pain in my left knee. I tried a few more just to be sure but then stopped after that cos it wasn't just a momentary thing. although it's not too bad I'm going to rest it for a week and then get the video next week. hopefully the pain won't be there next time. I think perhaps i didn't warm up enough.
