- run 4km in 18:36

- stretch

late start because gf decided at the last minute she wanted to come to the track as well. wasn't feeling great this morning in any case. but ~4:40 is a very sustainable track pace now, which is good.

ETA: also, shoulder feels none the worse for wear after saturday's experiment. it's not healed but it's not worse. will continue adding upper stuff back in cautiously.

EDIT: evening

- GMB warm up

- tiger tail calves and soleus

- pistol work x a little bit
got two clean on left leg, right leg and rest of left were top-to-bottom with a rock back.

- front levers x a couple

- KB rows x 14/arm

- band pull aparts x 10

just to do something. easing back in.

facebook is blocked here right now because the army and police are fighting thousands of protestors in the streets and they don't want them to be able to communicate with anyone. so i'm resurrecting this thread to say:

god fucking damn it.

yeah it wasn't a comment so much about quantity as about content. you're adding and taking away whole categories of food all at once, that alone could be messing with you.

yeah often they're longer. anyway.

- run 6.62km in 32:44
went out pretty fast for me and kept feeling good, at some point decided to see how close i could get to the december goal of 23:00 5k. hit 4.77km at 23:00 and slowed down. good to know. not terrible considering first ~2.3km are uphill and i didn't go into it thinking to push hard. kicked a brick or rock or something around 2km and it hurt like shit. still hurts in fact.

- stretch

- some push ups and pull ups and assorted calisthenics with gf. shoulder never feels as good as post-run, and i'm sick of not doing any upper anything.

weird about stomach. have you thought about talking to a dietician? you're freestyling these adjustments. pro might be able to get some explanation for what types of foods make you feel good and bad and give you a little more structure.

idiopathic. alcohol can be a trigger but wasn't in this case: it started at about noon and i was at work.

- migraine x 6 hours
fffffuuu

feel better now but decided probably best to just let myself rest. first migraine in something like two years.

I got a post-doc position literally out of the blue on my first attempt.

So i went for a run for 1.2 miles. Sprinted/jog/walked.... was out of breath almost....

This is good, but i definitely will not be doing this too much.

counterpoint: do it more.

on the football players dunking vid, NB: cole beasley is 5'8" at most. the pump reverse two-hander he throws down at 1:05 is awesome. saw it originally on deadspin where the headline or caption or whatever was, "pro athletes are different from you and me." true.

aaand right back to 5:03/km. this felt hard, though that might be in part because it was so cold this morning (below 50). i need gloves. no repeat of the weird right foot thing but knees are a little achey now ~20 mins after run finished. careful.

- stretch

16:00 is elite. there's no way on god's green earth that 16:00 is the 90th percentile for all ages, let alone masters.

just checked actually and 16:00 would have placed 12th at the 2015 world masters athletics outdoor championships in the M35 category (i.e. 35-39 year-olds). that's pretty good.

the only person i know personally who could do it argued against the assisted chin up machine because in the real OAC your body twists. training with fixed knees doesn't help your body learn the movement at all.

here's his tutorial: http://www.beastskills.com/one-arm-chin-up-pull-up/

also, on the pin squats, it looks like your butt is drifting back after you set the bar down and you're losing tension. try to just tap the bar on the pins while keeping form intact, don't let yourself relax in the bottom. recipe for low back injury IMO.
