yeah i like that one, too. WCW sure did know how to pare things down. but i love "musee des beaux artes." i actually don't know much of auden's work otherwise but for whatever reason i come to that poem back over and over.

joe posted something about auden in another thread. here is a poem of his i know by heart, and which has been on my mind even more than usual the last few months:

About suffering they were never wrong,
The old Masters: how well they understood
Its human position: how it takes place
While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along;
How, when the aged are waiting passionately, reverently
For the miraculous birth, there always must be
Children who did not specially want it to happen, skating
On the pond at the edge of the wood:
They never forgot
That even the dreadful martyrdom must run its course
Anyhow in a corner, some untidy spot
Where the dogs go on with their doggy life and the torturer's horse
Scratches its innocent behind on a tree.

In Breughel's "Icarus," for instance: how everything turns away
Quite leisurely from the disaster: the ploughman may
Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry,
But for him it was not an important failure; the sun shone
As it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green
Water, and the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.

And last but not least.... he can walk the 5km in 18 minutes. Faster than most runners can run the 5km, he could beat them without even running.... The bird can fly but chooses to walk.

that is stupefying.

hiruni wijayaratne is my hero now. not enough runners with short, muscular legs. respect.

- run warm up 2 km

- tempo 1 km x 2 w/1 km rest [3:56, 5:01, 3:54]

- run cool down x 1 km

- stretch

total distance 6.01 km, total time 28:24

low back a little tight, oddly. run well after dark so it wasn't so hot out. mostly was trying to get a sense of how it feels to run <4:00, how fast that is. the tempo intervals had me breathing harder than usual but seemed bearable, like i could string at least a couple of them together.

we shall see soon enough: rest tomorrow, time trial tuesday.

- run 4 km

- run tempo @<4:30 x 2 km
pain and suffering, it's too fucking hot

- run 1 km
felt cramps coming on

- alternate walk/run 1 km
nope

- walk 2.6 km

- stretch

total distance 9.56 km, total time 55:41

scary to feel cramps starting. it's too hot to run hard. also i need more extensive tempo work, that 2 km sucked and it wasn't even that fast.

Mens 10k final is today in an hours time.

I can probably post a link to the video of the race after it has happened today.

niice!! if you find it online sure link it, thanks!  :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

just saw some of it from Zane's IG stories (he was recording his tv)

damn Jake got 5th @ 27:31 or something, but was right there up until the last lap or so I think.

Cheptegei got it as suspected. He's that dude now.

set a national record though. wonder if he'll file the paperwork this time.  ::)

saw a couple of canadian buddies last night who love the raptors. they're terrified of the wiz just because the raptors are every bit as much the classic late-season/playoff heartbreakers that the wizards are. who will collapse less completely? tune in to find out.
