Wow you were in Kelly Baggett's latest article! http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/HowMuchCanVertBeImproved.html

Didn't know you were working with him.

Anyway after reading that, I was thinking that you (Ori) still haven't had all the improvement possible on movement efficiency. Your run up looks different than what most high leapers do. ANd your penultimate looks really small. I don't know if the large penultimate is the way for everyone, but certainly yours is smaller than I'd expect for a 40+ jumper and furthermore, your depth is pretty high during your RVJ in your dunk vid. Baggett didn't mention that though so I was a bit confused I guess. And I'm sure you've already thought about this.

What do you think?

edit: not all great leapers have a deep depth during their RVJ, but most do. Maybe you have more FT fibers so you take a shorter stepped more reactive run up

i never believed the argumet that there were people sprinting faster barefoot than anyone does today with spikes on a track. would have to study the footpsrints myself to come to a conclusion

however, there is definitely truth to some ideas. It is true that sperm counts are decreasing, and fertility is lower and lower. The male standards for fertility set by the WHO have also decreased since so many fail to meet the standards. here's a very short documentary on it. linking this entirely to BPA and other endocrine disruptors, it's probably a combinatin of things not all chemicals

That's why the world population continues to increase at the highest rate ever (Highest was technically in 1963 but they project it to be higher)

Please go

Haha, as if that proves anything. got any links? Also this fertility problem is mostly restricted to industrialized nations. Statistics of the whole world do not apply.

ALso the math could get pretty confusing. Even with a decreased fertility rate, you could have an increasing rate of population growth if more people are conceiving even if at lower rates. So what you said does not show anything at all.

Fertility rates are lower than they were in 1960 http://www.google.com/publicdata/explore?ds=d5bncppjof8f9_&met_y=sp_dyn_tfrt_in&idim=country:USA&dl=en&hl=en&q=fertility+rates

That doesn't indicate lower sperm counts per se, but it's pretty much a fact that sperm counts are decreasing. Most of you probably have lower sperm counts now than your father tdid at the same age.

edit:

" Professor Niels Skakkebaek of the University of Copenhagen presented data indicating sperm counts had fallen by about a half over the past 50 years. Sperm counts in the 1940s were typically well above 100m sperm cells per millilitre, but Professor Skakkebaek found they have dropped to an average of about 60m per ml. Other studies found that between 15 and 20 per cent of young men now find themselves with sperm counts of less than 20m per ml, which is technically defined as abnormal."

RDLs have the advantage of a stretch-reflex in a potentially important ROM (of the hips)

Right, I think it's possible to have some intense amortizations with RDLs if you don't go too heavy and stop right before the plates hit the ground. After reading this I realize that I typically mix up RDLs, stiff legged and regular deadlifts in my dlift workouts, and sumo..i highly enjoy amortizing in this fashion during a deadlift session

The only thing that has not been mentioned is foot width. Try a closer stance, less than shoulder width, or sumo, while keeping the hips high, that would be more stiff-legged DL but it works. Even with conventinoal, you are definitely hitting your hamsrtings hard. perhaps some single leg hyperextensions or single leg light dumbell deadlifts could be another assistance exercise. RDLs are pretty heavy of a lift to be considered just an assistance exercise.

To answer your question dreyth, unracking 455 wouldn't be dangerous if your max was like 600+, but it could be if your max was like 465. I think it's a good test of will to just go for it, and not be afraid of the danger but that's just me.

cuz i'm being nice. I don't know who harvey is but he is asking a question, and everyone else is being a bitch.
I never said that achilles tendon length has anything to do with knee bend..

I said I have average achilles tendon length (probably), andhuge knee bend. James White, a black dude, with long achilles tendon, does not have much knee bend in 1 footed jump... i didn't make any conclusion I offered my thoughts. happy to repeat everything I said i nthe first post..

cool vid.

My lower leg form base of heel to top of calf, measured with a 90 degree knee bend is about 33cm. From base of heel to bottom of calf, hence top of achilles, is 19-20 cm. Heel is 2cm. so my achilles length is about 17-18cm, and achilles + calf = 31cm.

I don't know how that stands with averages, but I definitely don't have extremely high calves like someblack people, but definitely not low calves. They're somewhat high though.

And my one footed jump has a huge knee bend almost like a lunge

But I've seen other black people jump with less knee bend so i don't know. Sch as james white

lol. people like vagina just react so strongly. stop reacting, take a step back and think. glad to see at least vag was able to do that.

I'm like that too, always reacting, especially on forums where everyone is anonymous. But seirously, both parties have techniques that work..

I've increased my running vert 2'' instantly by trying to have my feet plant at the same time on an RL plant. As I reached out to plant with my right foot, I prepared my left foot to shoot out in front ready to jump.. bam instant 2'' is HUGE.

But in a game, it doesn't matter if you have a 45'' max vert with perfect technique, and can still dunk over your competition with 40.. there is no demand to use good technique.

if vertical jumping was an olympic event... there would be EXTREMELY HIGH DEMAND for good technique. just my thoughts. I agree with lance though, train for a few years, then start talking. It's hard htough everyone wants to talk all the time including myself! Be nice.

yeah probably.

I say so because today, I came across a jump mat. Without warming up (was mentally prepared and very recovere), I pulled a 31 in my dresspants and formal wear, tie.

It was very accurate and convinved me this stuff is good, because I know frm measuring rims with measuring tape for a whiel that I've been at 31-32 for a while. But that jumpmat is not the same as the one you're using but probably works ismilarly.
