LOL.  I'll explain my opinion.  Kevin Durant is a GREAT, and I repeat GREAT shooter.  I don't believe scoring champion = greatest scorer.  KD's ball handling is not good enough for him to consistently create for himself.  A lot of his shots come off picks and catch and shoots.  Maybe I'll value him more, if he was shooting like 50% FG, because 50% playing the way he does, you can argue he's scoring to be efficient.  Also, did you watch the Thunder in the playoffs?  People were hating on Westbrook for jacking up shots, but he HAS to.  No one else can create on the team that well, except James Harden.  Whenever KD got the ball, he literally just jacked up a 3 from wherever he was.  He also struggles with physical defense.  He lacks a post game in the NBA.

Melo on the other hand, thrives against physical defense.  Has arguably the best post game for a perimeter player.  Has an UNSTOPPABLE mid range game.  He catches the ball, triple threat 20 feet out, just send the double team already.  He has better handles, and can crossover and create for himself much easier.  His 3 pt shot, while not as good as KD, is still pretty good.  He finishes with the best of them at the basket too.  He literally is GOOD at EVERY aspect of scoring.

KD on the other hand, is NOT GOOD at creating for himself, against physical defense, ball handling, post game.  I feel that, without a good PG and unselfish teammates who can set good picks for him, he won't be as dangerous, although still quite dangerous because I do see him as a top 10 NBA player.

Haha. I don't believe in generalizing, so I did not mean to say everyone has a front, it's not completely true, but if I were not to generalize my thoughts would take longer to write out. Sadly you can't get the most out of what I'm saying because you choose to ignore it and create this mob mentality. Those who do agree with me on some points won't speak out for the most part.

Raptor: unfamiliar things are always scary. Scary = unfamiliar. Something that is true for pretty much everyone who commented on my posts is that most of you don't actually like to think as much as yo like to rant/get emotional. I've said this before many times, but getting emotional is "gayer" than staying rational as I try to, and the person who intelligently criticized my generalizations. I stand by what I say and am not afraid to speak my mind like some of you here because once again, my confidence comes from within, not from what people on a forum have to say.
One IM PERSONALLY laughing because you were HORRIBLY TROLLED. DUH they are going to hate on darq not because of some karma bullshit but just because. Whenever you see any kind of video on youtube there is always some weak ass slob saying thats not ATG or those arent deadhang pullups or someshit like that. HALF THE PEOPLE WOULDN'T SAY SHIT LIKE THIS IN REAL LIFE. What everyone forgets to realize is that HATERS ARE GREAT. AMAZING ACTUALLY. If you don't have haters you are doing nothing with your life. You have to have something for them to be jealous of. No one hates on a fatass.

Two you have to understand that half the shit you just said sounds like some new age shit. No matter what you say about it. You sounded like sicken vendetta there. That is horrible company. Even if meditation is good for you, you made it sound GAY AS HELL. A lot of us meditate, but we dont call it meditation for the most part, its just alone time. You have to remember that when we read your posts we are on a training site and you really have to be careful how you word things.

Third this comment
"It's okay for men to cry. I learned this recently at ultimatemenssummit.com, where these older men are promoting the idea that being stern and unemotional was the old-school concept of masculinity. It's okay to harbor grief, and can be quite therapeutic with a circle of men."

Why must you say it like that. If someone said that to me in real life is no thank you i wont join your circle. Again remember your demographics. For the most part everyone is between 14-30. Would you say this in a high school/college weight room? if not, then don't say it. For a lot of us training is our way of expressing our feelings. Idk bout many of yall but without i would be pretty depressed/smoke weed/become overly sexual. I know it is with darq. Idk his family situation, but from what i do know this is his way of getting away from everything and expressing his feelings.

Fourth, My personal annoyance with you is that you think so freaking much and the way you keep saying confidence from within. To compare it vertical jump training...you sound like a scammer like a luke lowry/alex maroko. We all have our guards up for a reason.

NO ONE WILL READ THE WHOLE POST EXCEPT A FEW PEOPLE. EXPECT THAT. DONT BE SURPRISED. IF YOU LEFT IT JUST AS
WE WOULD ALL BE COOL
The MAIN point is that, Adarq gets shit on starting strength because he puts out an equal attitude in some of his videos, belittling others, calling people pussies, etc. I think it's cool, but you will always get hate as a result. That answers adarq's question in the first post. If you want to maintain integrity of staying on topic in this forum, maybe we should just end with that knowledge, unless you want to intelligently argue out some opinions instead of using your amygdala unconcsiously to generate emoticons. If the latter, I'm done here.
Edit: done as in with this thread..
MY MAIN POINT IS TO WATCH HOW YOU FREAKIN SAY THINGS...KEEP THINGS SIMPLE AND APPEALING ENOUGH FOR THE AVERAGE BRO AND THEN ELABORATE.

LOLLLLL relax man.. I think what Avishek had to say was cool (seriously).  He's just expressing his own opinions and he's not afraid to show it.  If it doesn't relate to you or you don't agree, just ignore it.

Avishek, you brought open a topic that was very unexpected.  It was unexpected because this is a training site, so I guess it was like "umm wth is that about?"  Whether the topic relates to some or not, it is a valid opinion of his and that's all it is.  No need to hate, and also it's not like he started a topic called "confidence within" on the "strength, power, speed, reactivity sub-forum" lol.

And don't take JC's captioned picture responses seriously.  I don't think he's what you were saying "asserting his dominance" or "hiding" or whatever.  He's just not giving a damn what you have to say and putting up pictures I think were funny.

Everyone should relax, and listen to an Alicia Keys song, because her voice is powerful enough to relieve stress, and improve muscle fatigue/recovery/protein intake/and fat burning.

everyone gains fat when they gain weight. except steroid users. and sometimes even them. the proportion you gain of muscle and fat depends on (not in order of importance):

1. your genes,
2. your size and how fat you are when you start trying to gain weight,*
3. your activity level and the types of activities you're doing, and
4. your diet.

*e.g. very fat, untrained people are generally the only people who can really build muscle and lose fat at the same time. everyone else is stuck with at least a little fat gain.

But I recently, gained some muscle mass, while losing fat.  I started at ~13%BF, only 153lbs at 5'8".  This was my goal and I asked Lance this before and he said it is very possible to gain muscle and lose fat simultaneously.  I'm not saying you don't know what you're talking about, but yeah...

I use short sprints as part of my plyometric routine to jump higher.  On top of that, sprinting is actually my 2nd favorite sport to do/play after basketball.  I just love sprinting, it feels great, and I am fairly fast.

However, I never really learned the proper way to sprint.  What are some tips, and technique/form principles I should incorporate?  How do I put myself in the proper starting position to accelerate as fast as possible in the beginning?  Only thing I literally know of right now is that after the initial phase, I my body should be kept straight up lol...

^ This is a great example of how people live with a front.
JC is trying to assert his dominance by insulting someone else, but he is merely expressing his insecurity in being called gay himself, or expressing his true thoughts, open to interpretation and perhaps destructive criticism of which he is afraid, perhaps due to his past complications with ED or w/e that was, (it's okay, my first gf sometimes couldn't give me a hard on, just wasn't sexually turned on by her much, so there are many reasons), but mostly just because of the front he has in order to gain status. I am not using these tactics to gain status, because my perception of status is generated in my own mind, not in the minds of forum members.

See I'm not speaking maliciously, this is just what I am thinking and I am most probably right. Most people on this forum are living in fear, and promote mob mentality, use pictures/emoticons to assert their dominance by attempting to ridicule others when they themselves are incredibly weak inside.

This is all good and all, but please don't assume and generalize that MOST people on this forum are like this.  Have you taken the time to get to know each individual on this forum?  No you haven't.  I'm a sociology major, and I KNOW a lot of people are the way you describe, but at the same time, it is not cool or fair to generalize a group of people this way.  Just because the case may be common, does not mean there isn't anyone out there who has no self-confidence issues.

Either way, calm down bro.

Durant is great but he is not the best scorer in the world.  Sorry.  Carmelo is better, and Kobe probably even at this age might still be better.  Also, I love Durant and this 66 is impressive, but seriously anyone diminishing Kobe's 81 because it was against the Raptor's is delusional.  The Raptor's sucked, but the worst NBA team would make the best Rucker Park team look like little kids.  Add to the fact it is more competitive than a streetball game, so the defense was not only better, but trying harder.

Durant's pull up 3's are amazing though.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Barefoot training
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:03:24 pm »
Adarqui or Lance pleaz answer this cause I got the same question.

Yo, I asked Adarq on IRC and he answered me.  He basically said, bare-foot training is cool and can help, but he doesn't PROMOTE it.  That it's not absolutely necessary or required or anything.  And then he said that, you can do some plyo's bare-foot if you want, but you're going to have to do some plyo's in basketball shoes too (if you're a basketball player), and that it'll be different.

And just incase, bare-foot should jump higher on a stable surface for SVJ's.

Andrew, they just hating on you, because they are fat when they want to be shredded, but they keep on GOMADing so they can't.

Either way, fuck them, they are of no significance.  The more haters you get (usually haters are extremely ignorant), the more success you're having.

Kobe - huge success / lots of haters
Lebron - huge success / lots of haters
Justin Beiber - MAKING BANK AND GETTING HOES / WORLD RECORD FOR HATERS

I don't like Beiber, but I don't hate him.  I would love to be in his position = no skills but fame/fortune

lol ya wtf

ya dude i don't get it.. these guys are insulting me pretty hard, not just in that thread, i was linked some other threads.

Fuck it, the more known you get, the more haters you get.  It's inevitable.

Besides, it's funny to have such ignorant haters.  All hate comments towards you leads to laughs

That explains why I have a lot of haters in Romania (seriously). They all hate on me because I actually help people for free and then these retards come in and try to act smart while doing basically NOTHING positive for anyone, just trolling around and calling names. Fucking idiots.

Example of the sad state of human society

That video was messed up! He equates success to dunking a ball and nothing else. He calls himself an "elite" athlete... which doesn't make any sense. There is no way that he is an elite basketball player. He is shooting 3 pointers and missing by a 1/2 a mile only to run up and barely dunk the ball off a big bounce. You could never pull something like that off in the NBA (which is where the elite Basketball players are). He needs to be able to dribble up there, palm the ball, and slam dunk it without a running start. That would at least get him 2 points. What he is doing won't get him anything but a lost ball!

The sad thing is that I don't follow basketball or watch it often. If I can see the flaws, imagine what a real NBA coach would think?

- by some guy in the thread

OMFG LOLLLLL I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THIS POST

Apparently, Andrew Darqui is an aspiring basketball player trying to make it to the NBA and compensates his horrible 3 point shooting by dunking it after the miss.

Apparently, dribbling up to the basket and dunking is considered not having a running start.

Apparently, Andrew Darqui thinks he will be trying his famous lob dunks in a real game.

Apparently, calling yourself an 'elite athlete' means you are a basketball player.

This guy needs to STFU if he knows nothing about nothing.  But then again, it was hilarious

Basketball / Re: Why does my layup look like crap...
« on: August 02, 2011, 11:19:24 am »
lots of people on here are better qualified than i am to offer advice, so all i'll say is, why are you taking all your layups with the same leg/arm combination? shouldn't the ones from the left be off the right leg and with the left hand? even i can make layups off both feet and with both hands and i suck at basketball.

^^ learn to use your left hand/ right leg on the left side, right hand/left leg on the left side.  Also, being that youre a two leg jumper, practice jumping off both as well.

the right/left layup he did on the left/right side seems to work for me so i can skoop under guys arms and get a foul. sorry off topic

Its fine to do reverses and all sorts of variations to the basics.  If you cant ACTUALLY DO THE BASICS though, its a good idea to learn them.  Jumping off the right leg and using the left hand and jumping off the left leg and using the right hand are basic skills, that keep the defense further away from the ball.  There is a reason that every basketball coach in the world teaches these skills to players at a very young age.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:59:00 am »
Hi.  I am a 28 year old male who has had a goal of dunking for a long time.  I go in spurts where I focus on power and then lose it.  I think it was more because I haven't been holding myself accountable.  I have been reading posts from adarqui on t-nation for awhile and just stumbled upon his site a few weeks ago.  I have been reading for the past few days and am ready to finally rededicate myself to my goal.

A little about me athletically...I am 5' 11" and right now I weigh about 190 or so.  I am carrying some extra fat, as I was recently injured.  I hurt my knee playing softball...sprained mcl and partially torn pcl.  So for the past 2 weeks I have been working on getting my quads stronger to take the pressure off the pcl.  I can do pretty much anything (walk, bike, most lifts, save for squats and deads...) except run and jump for now.  So I think for the next two months my focus will be on upper body and rehabbing my knee.  In addition, it will be to take some of my extra chunk off.  I think I need to get to about 175 or so.

So I am pretty comfortable with my plan for the next two months or so....getting healthy and changing my body composition.  However it is once I start moving towards the power goal that I am not quite sure where to start.  So I will be doing a lot of reading!!  And if any one has any input on where to start, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction!

JMS

Yeah, you can't do anything for vertical strength/power right now with that knee.  That is a great plan for the next 2 months.  Rehab, get that knee strong, and change your body composition.  That alone will have you jumping higher anyways.  I guess you can do some calf raises right now as well.
