Well Im confused, do you like the  ldisos or not?

hahahahahahahah :)

LOL nah I know those were ridiculous claims and that James dude that kept trying to use extreme lingo to try and ward off potential arguments kind of gave him away.  I didnt know he was such a d bag though and wondered why he wouldnt say what gains he made in the thread.

yup, because as "smart as he is", when you have NO REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE with what you claim you have, in terms of getting results with yourselves and others, then you simply cannot make up any lies that are worth believing.. it's too hard, especially when you're trying to sell a method would is supposed to turn avg people into archuletta's.. imagine if he said he had gained 5" on vert and gained 10 lb muscle in 4 years, can't sell iso extremes with that.. so instead, it's:

"i didn't gain anything for a few years until i finally figured them out, then i turned into a freak in one month, but i have no video or any way of proving myself, also i have absolutely no credentials or testimonials from any athletes i have helped over the years, but take my word for it iso extremes will make you into archuletta". -- lulzguy

It was fun to stay up and read the whole fucking thing for nothing then.  That being said I did a couple of iso holds for 1 minute today before my workout. hahahaha.

hahahahahahahah!@$!@$!@%!@%!@

nice man, it takes a minimum of two years to be able to do them correctly though.. did you PULL YOURSELF INTO POSITION? bwahahah! if not, pull... if you didn't gain anything in 6 months, pull harder... if you're pulling as hard as possible, then you're not pulling hard enough, or you aren't thinking about sprinting.. if you are doing all of that and still no gains, did you flinch? if you flinch they don't work.

Andrew , with my current schedule i seem to always skip the DJs:
I leave my jumping session for 1 day before "next" weightlifting session so i get the most rest from the "last" session. But the jumping sessions are quite stressing for ankle/shins area so next day i skip the DJs.
I figured that its not a big deal because:
-Jumping max 2xweek is already covering most of the needed plyo work.
-Im doing that explosive workout too ( 8x2 explosive box squats ) almost every week.
-Gym supscription ends next week and then it closes for summer , so ill be off the weights for ~1month so ill have the chance and im already planning to engage more id Depth Jumps and Depth Drops that that month.
Doesn't really mater as i only have 2 more lower body workouts left , was just wandering if i was wrong and i should have gone ahead doing the DJs too...

replace them with MR tuck jumps for now, sets of 10-20 :D just work on quick ground contact with good height (not max height though until you get real good at them).. that way you can get some kind of reactive "overload in" while saving the dj's for next month.. I still think you should do some kind of reactive exercise, so 3x10 on the MR tuck jumps should be good and shouldn't kill your shins.. try one session, see how you feel.

hm, in fact, why not just do the MR tuck jump stuff at the end of your jumping session, when you're nice and warm.

peace mang

Ahhh, very nice!
I am doing tuck jumps , 2x5 of them in every dunk session , between dynamic warmup and jumping , not max height though and also not stiff legged , probably less stiff than your semi-stiff vid:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQMyI_Be-Vo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQMyI_Be-Vo</a>

-3x10 at the end of jumping sessions seems a great idea! Should i push it more if i feel ok? like 3x15 or 4x10?
-Should main focus be:
1) Maximum leg stiffness?
2) Minimum ground contact?
3) A good combination of both without getting too dramatic?

Id go for 4x10 with style (3) :D

Thanks a lot man...

np man..

if you feel great doing them, then I would use sets to add volume, not reps.. though, i like to do one high rep set.. so say, if you feel good, do something like:
- 3-4x10
- 1 x max-rep (<=50, no more than 50, stop on any form breakdown)

^^ so pretty much like in the video i uploaded.. i took ~1 minute breaks, but you can take even longer breaks to recover more fully.

i would focus on very quick GCT with as much height as possible, BUT, not as much height as possible regardless of GCT, if that makes sense.. so not just bouncing real fast like an RFI, and not going max height spending too much time on the ground.. pretty much in between.. really fast arm swing will help do the trick and "thinking about fast GCT".

this will help you focus on your reactivity still, and build a better base for those dj's next month.. dj's will be alot better having done this than not having done it.

peace man!

  http://wgfforum.llsint.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=62

that thread ruins athletes :) people have been derailed for years because of that thread.. it is evil.

if you want to see some real good dialogue on iso-extremes, check these threads:

- ldiso questions: http://wgfforum.llsint.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=638
- attended evo-sport seminar: http://wgfforum.llsint.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=671

colbert/others get blasted in those threads.. those two threads helped break a few people out of being brainwashed.

Quote
I have been up all last night and finally finished reading EVERY single post in the thread and I have to admit it was probably the most interesting and thought provoking thread I have ever read in my life.

ya, most everyone has that reaction.. but what you don't realize in that thread, is that most everyone who has been "trying as hard as possible to master iso extremes", has been doing so to no avail for years. Furthermore, james colbert is basically a fictional character with no credentials and no real experience.. he claims it took him years to master iso extremes, then when he finally did, within a month he put on like 10 inches on vert and gained 20 lb muscle, or some stupid shit.. Plus, he thinks athletes are capable of max sprinting 100% every single day and 1RM lifting every single day after you master iso extremes.

Quote
First of all, I dont for one minute buy into all the magical claims of the isos and blah blah blah.

good, those iso extremes are utter bullshit.. iso extreme lackeys buy into them because of jay schroeder's claims.. if you read the call em out on here about jay, you'll see his claims verbatim in quotes, such as doing depth drops from 20 feet or 80 year olds deadlifting 700 lb every day for months etc..

Quote
The intriguing part to was if they could really be used as such a good recovery method that many of the posters were talking about.  I have read about the "extreme stretches" as used in DC training, Parillo, etc. and it seems that they might have similar properties.  The one thing that no one mentioned in this thread was the possibility of hyperplasia occuring from the stretched positions.  I realize the extreme stretches differ alot from what the Schroeder guys are claiming the isos do, but seem very similar in SOME of the positions.  Another confusing part to me was why not reach times congruent with hypertrophy/strength protocols, then add load?

well, RJ brought up a good point about kaatsu and iso extremes, so their seems to be a correlation between the hypoxic environment created with 5 minutes straight of blood occlusion if a "contraction were to be held that long", but really no one has hypertrophied to any significant degree using them, or actually improved anything.. everyone "feels faster" when doing iso extremes, but if you try and bend a spoon long enough with your mind, you might actually think you bent it a little too :D

Quote
I mean that would seem to make the iso much more effective from a strength OR a stretching/ shock to the whatever the hell they think they are shocking that is eliciting these awesome hormonal and neural changes they are claiming.  We all know that an isometric done at the weakest joint angle carries over to the stronger joint angles as well, so wouldnt this make perfect sense to do shorter duration/ heavier loaded isos once a baseline level of competence has been reached?

ya, that's my point and other's point on ldisos.. but that's what WGF does.. WGF uses loaded isos, such as say iso lunge with barbell.. james colbert and folk say that you can't possibly work the correct muscle patterns by loading the ldisos, because then it becomes a form of 'yielding isometric', which in fact "they arent" (lol) they are in fact "maximum velocity eccentrics by pulling yourself into position and thinking about the sporting environment without even flinching" (lol).

Quote
I also would have liked to have heard more from RJ as he seemed to be responding well to them as far as what type of strength increases and speed gains he may have made.  I know he said he felt better recovery but that could easily be from the similarity to the pnf stretches if not much other gains were made.  If so I would really like to hear about them.

he stopped, as well as most everyone who has done them.. the only people who have kept doing ldisos for years have absolutely nothing to show for themselves (unfortunately) other than the ability to hold a position for 5 minutes.

iso extremes are full of shit and that thread should be deleted from the internet.. chris K, if you are reading this, I would gladly delete that thread for you.

fuck i hate that thread lol..

james colbert basically got run off of charlie francis's forum for preaching the iso extreme bullshit, but nobody bought it there, everyone laughed at him including charlie & james smith.. so he found WGF and made it his home, completely transforming the enhanced inno sport WGF forum into a pile of dogshit iso-extreme forum.

peace man

ps: check out all of my challenges to james colbert in those threads i linked, not one was answered.. i actually do wish they worked as claimed, but they dont, and the people pushing them are full of shit.. not to mention they try to get you hooked on ARP.

thanks for the great reply about a week back re the GHR!

np man, check pics and vids section for an insane ghr.

ps

i dont if you have ever done a hip flexor strain but if you have how have you rehabbed it?

mine is type 2 i think with type 3 being the worse.

i can run, stretch, bw squat but at some angles or explosive movements it does hurt.

any tips apart from complete rest? i heard boyle's hip flexor strength movement ie holding it iso for 20 sec helps rehab it

cheers

jon

well, i have strained my hip flexors, i never really worked with anyone who had those issues, as that would be the PT's job, then they would come to me healthy..

as for myself, rest became the primary method of healing them.. but i would do things like light warmups etc.. i would try not to sit, either lay down or stand, legs straight, lots of walking for blood flow..

that's about it really. I don't have anything fancy for that issue :/

peace man hope it gets better quick.

nice vid, never saw that before.. i wish i would have gotten into sprinting alot younger, it feels so good to run fast.

Looks excellent. Couple of questions:

What's a single leg buck?

i'll make you vids of all this stuff.. it's basically a hamstring isolation exercise.. picture a single leg glute bridge, except, ur mid-foot is on some 18" box (edge), so it's like an elevated glute bridge.. it's a very nice exercise.

Quote
Would light cardio (e.g. brisk walking, C2, stationary bike at first, longer extensive tempo/light jogging as ankle improves) be okay on some, not all, rest days?

yup, it definitely would.. i'd pick walking over most anything right now.. it would allow you to recover alot more on those rest days.. put some classical on your ipod and just walk 4mph for 1-2 hours lool :D so relaxing.

Quote
Also, what are all of these:
Quote
-- C1: SHORT-SUICIDE:
-- C1: SHORT-LAT-SHUFFLE-GASSERS:

-- C1: 5-YARD-LAT-SPEED-SHUFFLE:
-- C1: 5-10-5:
-- C1: MULTI-SHUFFLE-TO-SPRINT:
?

Thanks again.

i'll drop you a vid on wednesday, can't film tomorrow.. if it's not raining i'll do a quick vid of basically everything in the complexes for those movement days, and the single leg buck/glute/hip extension stuff.

cool?

Hi I'm Swish. Some of you may know me from TVS. I don't post alot so maybe not though. I've been lurking here for a while. Finally decided to make an account.   Anyway I'm no expert on training but can maybe offer some help and  I am hoping to learn from you guys to help train myself and others.

welcome man.. any question you got, go ahead and ask it !

ya i have seen you on tvs..

cya!

^^^Exactly. Toes behind a line, jump, measure from the farthest-back heel. If you lose balance and fall on your ass, measure from your ass  :D

And it is fun, unless you do it on concrete. Then, as adarq says, it hurts like a bitch. I'd recommend a track or gym floor (that kind of bouncy black stuff they put down in weight rooms).

lol ya don't do it on pure concrete like my dumb ass :)

do it on a field or something.. broad jump is actually the most intense test, of all of the tests, imo.. the landing is what is most risky.. we used to use broad jumps over hurdles to minimize the stress of the landing, to constantly test hip power, it worked very well.. for example, if you could get 120" on broad jump, then you could get around 70" over a 30" hurdle.

Yup... for my RL plant I kind of try to make it look good... I'm getting up fine though, about 75 cm I think. But there's a big difference in between a small ball and a "big" ball in terms of technique (expected, but nonetheless annoying).

My one-leg jump hasn't increased in the last two years or so though... despite the gains in strength. I think one way into that is cutting the bodyfat a bit...

you always bring up the bodyfat issue.. i think it's time you did it, hell, it'll help your knees out alot too, it sure has helped mine.. i can withstand so much more being this light, i can't even imagine how good i'll feel when im finally at my goal of 145-150.. i feel so light it's amazing.

i love to eat, regardless of how skinny i am, so cutting this fat really was pretty hard.. but i adjusted and feel better than ever.

you got to do it mang, if you got to 160-165 you'd be BALLIN`.

I like his attitude

that's how i go out and like to play...F all coaches who try to act serious all the damn time, i like to play around but have super concentration and what not at the moment i am doing work haha

any1 with me?

it's 90%mental and 10% physical, seriously

well most football player's have that really aggressive attitude.. hardly anyone has that basketball swag attitude, such as chad johnson/deion/usain.. they got more of a "swag/flashy" attitude, which you don't see much on the football field, ESPECIALLY with coaches.. coaches usually have that attitude because honestly, most of the coaches who try and "be friendly" with the player's get used and abused, especially on the high school level.. as a coach you have to make people respect you and listen to you every minute, so being a "player's coach" usually doesn't work on the high school level, because immature athletes will get lazy/goof around too much if you allow it to happen.. so i understand where alot of those 'hard ass' football/basketball coaches are coming from... that stuff is fine on the college/pro level, because people are very serious on that level, so it can work.

i am too friendly as an s&c coach by default.. i mean I AMP PEOPLE UP hardcore in person.. kind of like a damn ray lewis of sorts.. when I just let my guard down and be too friendly with the h.s. kids, many of them start acting like little bitches, then it ruins the relationship.. if you look at my youtube videos, a kid like "jake rudock" or "russel", you can mess around with those kids and keep it relaxed.. because regardless of how much "fun you're having during the workout", when it comes time to do the set, they flip the switch and bring the intensity.. other kids you can't do that, they don't know how to flip the switch.

Track & Field / Re: hs track and field coaches suck
« on: July 12, 2010, 07:00:54 pm »
ok i know from experience that my high school coaches are idiots

I had 2, one quit after freshman year

we never get a chance to lift, when we do we go and they tell us to squat on our toes, which is very very bad

they made us do box jumps for 20 reps x3 sets, which was endurance and we are the sprinting team

never once did we have recovery days, we went hard all the time even before a meet

we ran alot of distance running for being a short distance squad, alot of times coach was lazy and made us do 30+min jogs, which i have to say are just a recipe for disaster as it really got everyone with shin splints

we never practiced with blockes enough

we are a 4a school and we compete against the biggest schools in indiana, and most the guys ended up leaving half way through, or got hurt....so I ended up running against 2 of the fastest kids in the state and got schooled

they both did many things wrong, don't say HS coaches know what they are doing because  I had 2 and they suck and were very well respected among coaches....there may be a few who know what they are doing but that's another story   i amd talking average

damn that's a pretty bad testimonial for your coaches.. it's unfortunate they know so little.

nice, thanks for those posts..

i have no idea about his training or anything, i've only read a few excerpts and saw one youtube video of him training..

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAC1qLiJSA8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAC1qLiJSA8</a>

what a beast triple jump.. that's one of my favorite videos.

here's some video of him training:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY1jyoFJ76U" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY1jyoFJ76U</a>

check at 2:20, this is what i was talking about in your journal, and other people's journals... using a mindset during lifting to help translate to the track and vice versa.

This is hard!

I tried it yesterday, i never cheat so this is legit
my back foot hit 9ft @ my best attempt and that may not be legit, I probably hit 8ft..so 8-9Ft which is pretty sad
It was really hard, i had no form for it

anyone else try this out?

best ive hit was 104 or something, i forget.. im like 96" or so on it now (8').. broad jump always wrecks my knees.

this is jamie mcowen, went from like 110" broad jump to 123" in 3 months, shit was ridiculous:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bur4-pjwzJA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bur4-pjwzJA</a>

that's the biggest broad jump improvement i've ever seen, shit was rugged.

i personally hate broad jumping, kills my knees, but i like doing MR hurdle leaps for distance etc.. i just don't like landing real deep and breaking all that momentum.. i love watching broad jumps though, i can't imagine being able to jump 11' like that, like some defensive backs do.
