Hope i didn't sound patronizing or criticizing or something like that, my bash was against smoking, not smokers. I was fully aware of how stupid it was all those years decades that ive been smoking, yet i couldn't quit. And when i did, for 2 and 4 years, i started again. And even now that im more determined than ever, 10 months clean now, i am not even saying i quit it, im saying im not smoking lately and im trying/hoping to keep it for ever.

No not at all man and I'm in total agreement with you! 10 months clean, that's fantastic!!! No turning back now! My addiction didn't even run that deep and i totally appreciate the struggle with stopping so props to you!

Run ~6km slow as heck and my shins were SUPER sore, maybe even posterior tibialis tendinitis? Idk... Walked the rest as it was getting stupid. My calves feel like a big knotted mess.

Much foam rolling and stretching needed and a little break I think

Been in a course this weekend so not much time for anything else. Going to hold off running for a few days, get some walking in and see howy legs are feeling... Probably only have a couple v easy short runs this week

Yup, from someone who has been addicted to smoking for about 30 years now, with a couple of 2-3 years off periods, smoking is the dumbest thing ever.
A whole bunch of tar and carbon oxides and other deadly poisons slowly killing you, making you less fit, more stinky,  imposing social restrictions , in exchange for an untold pleasure that doesn't really exist.
There is no real organic addiction too. Nicotine addiction goes away in 48 hours or so, the rest is all mental.
You're a meditating doctor, you know all that better than me, should be a piece of cake for you to dump that shit. Go get it!

Lol yeah, there was a point where I just stopped caring.. Life got stressful and I just went in for escapism. mostly used an ecigarette and then for the last few weeks weaning off with gum. It for sure is a stupid habit, if you have no tolerance it makes you feel sick and if you're addicted then it's using just to avoid withdrawals.

Thankfully i didn't use cigarettes too often. But yeah you're totally right, it's dumb as hell and I'm glad to be over it now!

I saw big jumps randomly in the first few weeks, strange. A lot of it just came down to motivation on particular days.

Fair enough on the strava, I try and not get sucked in to that side of it that much but its definitely there.

Run - 11km total, 3x1500m repeats in the middle roughly kept kept 4min/km pace but felt like DEATH.

been feeling inspired by gukl's long runs, planning to run all the way to the park we used to bike to as kids (~18-19 km round trip) on sunday. writing it down here to make it less likely that i'll bail.

morning

- push up x 31,20,26
less rest than usual between first and second sets.

afternoon

- pull up x 3,3,3; close grip chin up x 3,3,3; wide grip pull up x 3,3,3

- run 11.05 km in 54:36
dew point 69/20.5, forced myself to stay at four-in-four-out pace until the long hill in the penultimate km.

- stretch

Enjoy!! Long steady runs are the best feeling.
