ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Barefoot training
« on: August 08, 2011, 12:37:59 pm »
Well I do that because I just want to train at my apartment. But I would wear shoes if that's better. My concern is that if jumping barefoot on porcelain floor would give me bad knees. I feel like pain in my knees, like jumpers knee, but I am not sure because it's not very severe doesn't happen all the time. I feel like when I am landing when jumping barefoot I gotta land 'carefully' on balls of my feet or it hurts.

* Btw I'm clintzyc24.

Why did you change ur name to the name of my journal? LOL

700 calories or less?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? GOD DAMN!

Are you serious about the 135lbs? If so, you think you'll be able to maintain strength at that weight?

What part of your back..?

I've had sore traps and upperback from bounding before but only if I took a long break from it.

For shins I recommend drop jumps (depth drops rather, altitude drops, w/e). Worked for me once so i think it can work not sure if it's the best advice but try it. I get shin pain sometimes from one footed VJs, also this may be due to excessive quad action so the tibia gets the blunt of it rather than the hips

Same as me bro, traps and upper back is super sore. I did take a plyo break for like 2 months before starting just this week though. So yeah, I did take a big break.

would it be too much if i added weighted leg raises to exercise my lower abs if not then which exercise would good to replace it with.

Thanks

just do weighted leg raises and don't do weighted sit ups. weighted sit ups suck. leg raises work your lower AND upper abs anyways.

sometimes i do it on indoor bball gyms, sometimes outdoor turf/grass. i did plyos last 3 days. 1st day indoor was fine. 2nd day turf was fine but started feeling it during pogos. 3rd day = death.

my back was going nuts from the morning after my first plyo session tho.

Injury, Prehab, & Rehab talk for the brittlebros / Pain from plyometrics
« on: August 07, 2011, 09:02:29 am »
My plyometric routine consists of sprints/ single leg bounds/ depth jumps/ pogos

Lately, I have been doing them at a high frequency. Weird thing is, the following days, my back is super sore, and my obliques as well. I did feel my obliques working hard during my sprints though, and my lats a little bit from the arm swinging during the sprints. How the hell is my back so much more sore than when I do a weight lifting for volume day on my back?

Could this possibly mean, I have weak obliques or something? Would strengthening them help my sprints somehow? Or nothing to worry about?

Also, my INNER shins start hurting a lot. It's like they absorb a lot of the impact on each landing. I don't think doing dorsiflex exercises would help, because they work the outside of the shins. It's the inner side and they hurt...

Anyone ever experience any of these things and know what's up?

D-Rose:

Why do we always try to analyze people? You're trying to figure out 'why I had to say it like that.'

Get the f*** over it. I actually have improved on getting to the main point, the problem is that there are quite a few points to make...I would say everything I said in a college weight room actually since I aim to share my different thoughts as much as possible without those extraneous worries like "what are my demographics, I should know my demographics so people don't shit on me..." It's again a confidence issue.

If you ever think something sounds 'gay' or 'new age,' realize those are your subconscious programs and judgments. You're basically a robot not a free thinker when you react like that. So you're not thinking, you're reacting. We all do this (look up the amygdala). What I have taught myself to do and preach to others is to detach yourself from your preconceived notions. Takes lots of practice and it won't make sense overnight, maybe over a year...

But it is still relevant to peoples' goals on this forum. Learning these techniques and viewing things openly and non-judgmentally could take your training to a higher level, and help you absorb more information whether it be related to nutrition, or power training. Just some more food for thought.

I could elaborate more, because the way you think is really closed.. you said I almost sound like a 'scammer.' Your perception of a scam is dependent on the open-mindedness and your attachments to your beliefs and generally an inability to relax and view information without judgment and emotion. That's what most of the 'call 'em out' threads demonstrate.

I really like listening to your points. I am a sociology major and this stuff are things I study and agree with. I am being completely serious btw.

Trust me, Vince is so much more than what he's being advertised in the media. People are just ignorant and judge before seeing hundreds of his games like I did.

As for Melo, I hate that fat puertorican piece of shit.

whoa whoa whoa... Melo > Vince

LOLLLLL

Vince was great, one of the most exciting players of all time, and a beast offensively. Him and Melo are great offense players, and average at best on defense. When they try hard though, they can be decent defensively. Maybe you can argue Vince is better because he was a better play maker for his teammates, but Melo's scoring ability is just insane/unstoppable.

Btw: I don't judge NBA players off of what media says IF I have watched them play myself. Now I haven't watched Vince play 100's of games like you, but Melo is Melo.

@Jard, I've only heard of Sleepy Floyd once. Never saw footage of him. That quarter was amazing haha thanks for the video.

That relentless stretch in the 4th rivals T-Mac's 13 in 33, Lebron's 16 in 2 minutes, and Melo's 33 in a quarter.

Actually only T-Mac's 13 in 33 rivals it, considering the fact that, Sleepy did that in a comeback effort against the showtime lakers. And T-Mac doing it in a comeback effort as well against the Tim Duncan Spurs

@K6MI

I said arguably, if there's 1 better person, then it's still arguable. Regardless, you think I forgot Kobe?
Melo has an easier time in the post than Kobe. I said it. Melo > Kobe in the post. Kobe has a nice array of moves, resorting to fadeaways a lot, Melo has a nice array of moves as well. He just does it in an easier fashion. Many times, just bullying his way in like he's a center. Charles Barkley (or Kenny Smith, I forgot) doesn't call him "the bully" for nothing

Do you know your vertical measurements?

Honestly, you're worrying too much about over-doing it. I would say, you should take some days of basketball out. 4-5 days of basketball is great if you want to get better at basketball skills, but not great if you want to make good athletic gains in that short amount of time. Play 2-3 days a week maybe. Unless of course, your 4-5 days a week are like 1-1.5 hours each and you are not really fatigued by it.

Anyways, weight room buddy. Squat, and do some glute/ham/p-chain work like dead lifts or GHR's. Having a lower body weight room day 2x a week is sufficient for you. Also add some calf work, body weight or with weights if too easy.

Let's say you start squatting and after 2-3 sessions of squatting and learning the movement. You have a 1 rep max squat of 200 lbs. If by that tournament you're squat goes up to 240 lbs, providing that you are consistently playing basketball during your training to keep your bball movements sharp, and providing you are practicing jumping/some plyometrics to keep those strength gains converted into power, you will be more explosive. The more your squat goes up, the more explosive you should be.

Some people will have there explosiveness/athleticism go up linearly with there squat numbers, while most people like me, will not. Our athleticism and explosiveness will go up as we do some plyometrics as well, to convert the newfound strength into speed/power.

It is simple, but don't expect magical transformation in that short amount of time. However you might gain a decent amount, since it will be newbie gains.

Good luck.

Also, eat enough. Don't overeat, but eat fairly enough to keep gaining strength and etc.. Rice and chicken sounds fine. Chicken for protein, rice for carbs/energy that you'll need at your age ;) . If you modify your diet nicely and keep up with this routine, you will also get leaner, which itself will help you become more explosive.

he did the same against memphis , but he didnt get blocked he shot all backboard.

Those two situations against a (post-)season full of stats? Seriously?

LOL. I'll explain my opinion. Kevin Durant is a GREAT, and I repeat GREAT shooter. I don't believe scoring champion = greatest scorer. KD's ball handling is not good enough for him to consistently create for himself. A lot of his shots come off picks and catch and shoots. Maybe I'll value him more, if he was shooting like 50% FG, because 50% playing the way he does, you can argue he's scoring to be efficient. Also, did you watch the Thunder in the playoffs? People were hating on Westbrook for jacking up shots, but he HAS to. No one else can create on the team that well, except James Harden. Whenever KD got the ball, he literally just jacked up a 3 from wherever he was. He also struggles with physical defense. He lacks a post game in the NBA.

Melo on the other hand, thrives against physical defense. Has arguably the best post game for a perimeter player. Has an UNSTOPPABLE mid range game. He catches the ball, triple threat 20 feet out, just send the double team already. He has better handles, and can crossover and create for himself much easier. His 3 pt shot, while not as good as KD, is still pretty good. He finishes with the best of them at the basket too. He literally is GOOD at EVERY aspect of scoring.

KD on the other hand, is NOT GOOD at creating for himself, against physical defense, ball handling, post game. I feel that, without a good PG and unselfish teammates who can set good picks for him, he won't be as dangerous, although still quite dangerous because I do see him as a top 10 NBA player.

I see your point, but I have to disagree.

You're saying KD needs a pg? He's got arguably the most scoring minded PG in the NBA and is still putting up 30 a night.
Let's look at dude's playoff performances this year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7NQOtMDwhQ
I counted one three of a semi-drive and an tough floater off a feed. That's it, on 42 points.
All of his other points came from 1-1 situations, creating off the dribble/in the post or working against double teams.
It's a single game, I know, but there's this misconception that Durant just jacks up shots, he creates a lot of quality looks all by himself. What's more impressive, is he does not have an inside scoring presence on his team, all attention goes to the backcourt.
There's no Stoudamire and no high octane fastbreak D'Antoni-type offense for instance.

However, I'll have to agree he gets more looks from others creating for him, just 'cause he's so adapt at a catch n shoot type of game. Dude also has quite a lot of turnovers, so yes, I agree he's not as adapt as creating off the dribble as say Anthony.
However, in my opinion, dude is much better at creating an oppertunity to score off the ball, uses screens very well and is a constant threat, while Anthony is more of a spectator at times.
I feel that you're underating that aspect of scoring . Scoring =/= best 1 on 1 player. I agree Anthony is a better 1-1 player, but I do feel Durant is the better scorer.

So as I already mentioned it's kind of a toss up between Anthony and Durant right now, the stats point towards Durant* and I feel a scorer that doesn't need the ball in it's hands all the time is a more effective one, that's why I give Durant the edge.

Also
- Dude is the league leader in free-throw attempts. Jacking up threes much? Meh.
- Dude is the most consistent scorer in the game today;

- Dude was the leading scorer on the NBA squad by far that won gold in Turkey, has to count for something.

Durant is better at offense off the ball, but Melo is no slouch neither.

The thing about your argument about KD getting 30 a night with a scoring PG is flawed. Yes, Westbrook takes a lot of shots, but he also gets 8+ assists. But the point is, why can't KD get 30 with Westbrook also getting 25-30, when the 3 other starters are freakin Perkins/Ibaka/Sefolosha LOLL. Honestly, I cringe at that starting lineup offensively. Sefolosha is limited to only defense, same with Perkins, and Ibaka has some scoring ability, but he's still not reliable.

I like your argument about KD not having an inside presence, and that is true. I don't like the argument of KD being leading scorer of team USA though. He was appointed superstar of the team before it even started and they didn't get anyone in the league on his level that year. If he was on the 08 Redeem team, it would have been different, which of course you'll agree to as well.

I might have exaggerated KD's tendency to jack up 3's, but I'm saying I have seen him one too many times in pressure moments, when he is confused, without a go-to move except his infamous pull up 3 from wherever on the floor he is, even if it's 5 feet behind the arc.

I'll take Carmelo in the clutch over anyone btw. Stats prove it. He proves it night in night out. He is a killer in the clutch. KD in the clutch = "oh shit what do I do, I'll just jack it up right now" Melo in the clutch = "Too easy, I can take it to the hole, pull up, whatever I want"

@K6MI, I don't see what's to facepalm with my argument. Can you name me 2-3 perimeter players that's better than Melo in the post? I said arguable, not definitely.
