Got cleared to do some light lifting. Tried squatting Monday and he knee jount isnt too stable and had some patella tendon inflammation so I stopped at 135lbs and just did 3x10. Bleh. Knee joint feels amazing until i gp below parallel thennn it flares up some. Tried a few box jumps. 30" box was a barely make it type deal lol! Packed it in.

Today.... figured id deadlift and see how it feels since it doesnt have mcuh knee flexion. Light warmup (dynamic but much less than my normal) and the 30" jumps were slightly better. No depth jumps or repetitive jumps just to be safe. I'll wait til its 100%. 135, 185, 225, 275, 315, 365, even pulled 405 rather easily (surprising considering the time off). Did 3x8 at 225 for sets. Curious to see how the knee feels tomorrow.  General plan is to slowly work back to a solid 365 squat, 425 dead then start some explosive lifts/plyos. Tried a single one step jump post lifts today. Touched 10'3" and landing was unstable so no more for a minute. BW was 183lbs today btw.

2 things of note, 1 rather large the other...not so much.  First, the gym has decided to have a 1000lb club! Yay!!! I would like to be at the top of the lb for lb list so thats a goal. Currently the gym owner has moved 1250ish withroom to go at a BW of 200lbs. So thats the benchmark. I wont make the overall lbs list as theres some 240+lb beasts that come through lol

Secondly, and the big one. The docs have discovered what has been plauging me for the last 5-6 months medically. Thyroid issues run in my family and apparently mine ran amuck and shut down my test production. Blood work last week revealed it to be on the extreme low side of normal. (explains my exhaustion, slow recovery and healing, lethargy and stalling on my lifts overall). Im now on meds to hopefully stabilize my thyroid AND a super low dose of test cyp that should bring me back to normal ranges. I had my 1st injection Wednesday which scared me to death (needle phobia) and the dr says itll take a few weeks to stabilize and come up. Blood work every month because he refuses to allow me to go over normal levels of test (I dont blame him and dont really want to). That said mentally its a struggle right now because well, fuck, im only freaking 30 years old and thats messing with me some "as a man". And then theres the whole, well chris is on gear now BS which i dont really care for seeing as Id still test clean in any competition. But it is what it is and if it helps me be me again im going to do it. so yea, theres my huge 'fuck my life' rant.

Welcome! Great advice in here and as a hooper myself I must warn you. Vert training and skill work are not always complimentary. Usually they are not in fact. Skills and drills are more cardio/stamina which is good but no marathon runner is bouncy. Theres a fine line. My suggestion, after every bball workout, just go jump for 15 mins or so. Low rim dunks, ME jumps on a 10ft rim, etc. Go til you see a significant reduction in vert then hang it up for the day. When i do this my vert usually goes up 2-3 inches in a couple weeks vs when i only lift and do plyos in the weight room

Hmmm. 🤔 Super interesting points by Fast and Adarq... mostly because everyone whos ever hooped or dunked with me says it looks like I'm not even trying. I think thats the key tho. You HAVE to be relaxed and then just turn it on. I guess it comes naturally for some and others its engrained through training but the ability to turn ON INSTANTLY is, IMO, DIRECTLY wired to your CNS. Watch slow mo of sprinters or high jumpers and watch how quickly the muscle bodies contract and subsequently RELAX after output.

Damn and here i thought i was relaxed 😁

I have to agree on your landings scoob. You're over thinking. Think landing as soft as possible toes first. If it were me training you, I'd have you do.depth drops until you had the landings down pat THEN start back on DJs. As is you arent getting the rewards from DJs because youre cutting out the rebound effect (SSC) almost entirely.

Yup that would be why I haven't posted any dunks or anything lately to ig lol! Side note, the extra energy I have from not doing legs is shooting my upper body lifts up! I DB flat benched 120s the other day at 180lbs bw. Inwas shocked.  As for recovery... Its a struggle but I have to take it easy because the alternatives are worse.

Quick update: something had to happen smh. Got down to 178lbs while maintaining strength, very explosive and hoops were going well. So my knee gave out. Strained MCL and partial tear of the medial meniscus. 2 weeks off so far and improvement is slow. Sucks not being able to do legs. Physical therapist is hoping Im only out for another 4-6 weeks. Bah. Motivation to come back is already gnawing at me intensely. 😡

Boxing / Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Saul Canelo Alvarez

I see 2 factors to this fight. 1 being GGGs age because he looked almost human in his last bout with Daniels. 2 being if going up in weight slows Canelo at all since hes a predominantly counter puncher. Either way this is going to be a great fight considering the style clash. My heart says GGG but like Adarq said, Canelo is a boxers boxer.

Did back work Tuesday. And hooped so I skipped Wednesdays speed work.

Thursday:
BW: 181.8lbs.

Deadlifts: warmups to a single 475 pull.
5x5 at 425lbs. 1st set...last rep. Tweaked back. Successive sets much easier.

Skipped everything else because back was sore and I decided to pick daughter up early.

Good thing. Spinal erectors are fried. All from the ONE rep. I knew it too as it happened. Ugh. Heating pad currently then im going to hit the gym and get some blood flowing to the area and see if it helps. 5x5 was strong tho!

HOW?!?!  :o😂 I have split the crotch out of mediums!

Battled small depression last week... bounced back on Monday some. Quick recap. Hooped some. Have a couple meh dunks in vid I'll prolly throw together. Cant remember Depression week squats lol but on Thursday i deadlifted and dtruggled at 475 x1 so instead of 445 5x2 I did 425 x2,x2,x3,x3,x5. wth? The BSS 225 x3. Ok. I'll take it. Decided to swap back to a little more volume.

Monday:
warmups to a 425 single. then 2 405 singles and a 5x5 at 335. Not bad. FS to a 315 single then 3x5 at 225 and 1x12 for speed at 135. Not a bad workout. Bw at 180.2lbs. Trying to hit some speed work later.

Meh. The sweats and extra tee over my shorts and cutoff only weigh about 2lbs according to the scale and they keep me sweating. Theres no damn way i could fit kids compressions lol! My quads and glutes dont even let me fit a mens medium (which is what im supposed to wear according to waist size). I actually rarely play in compression anymore. I may bust out some pro combat gear this week.

Ok weird week... Had that dunk session on Tuesday...

(shorter highlight clip)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyBU4Lopik0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyBU4Lopik0</a>

... and felt GREAT. Come out Wednesday and try to loosen up and knee is KILLING ME. Crunchy. On fire. Just painful. Hang it up. Wake up Thursday and can barely bodyweight squat without pain. WTH. Skip leg day obviously and just stretch periodically. Wake up today and... it feels fine? Can BW squat easily? So i go lift back and biceps and warm up the knee with lightweight leg work (REALLY LIGHT WEIGHT SMH) and immediately drive to the gym to hoop some. Feels good. About to leave and a 6'7 and 6'2 guy ask me to dunk with them. I thought he was recording it (we went for about 20-25 mins hard!) but he was livestreaming on IG. Well... I hit this windmill and I had to take a video of his livestream on my phone because....

That HAD TO BE ON VIDEO! So hyped up! Was so close to a few eastbays and 360s i can taste it!

Edit: In other news im in a black pants gray shirt mood apparently this week lol

7 mins of a few dunks, some misses, some jumpers, a little messing around with the handle and me just being me. Enjoy!

If you watched it all I should have hit the pump reverse and that windmill was probably the 'easiest' so far in terms of effort.
