yeah this week has been a total loss so far. had time and energy to run tonight but boss advised me not to leave the house. shit is hitting the fan because of the aasia bibi verdict. (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/10/pakistan-pm-calls-calm-aasia-bibi-cleared-blasphemy-181031173052989.html) the area in which i live and work is pretty secure and i'm almost never given any kind of security restriction or advisory. so on the rare occasions when he asks me not to go out, i don't go out.

- jump rope 3'/1' x 5

- superset x 2
-- KB swing x 10
-- ME SVJ x 3

- pull up x 8

- push up x 21

- stretch

- SMR

lolololololol very weak push ups and pull ups. thinking about starting 20 pull up/100 push up challenges on alternating days. maybe before work.

so obviously with a couple of exceptions training hasn't been great in october. it's going to stay in the back seat in november as well. i've got an insane work week ahead, then back to pretty normal next week, then traveling for two weeks (south africa, botswana, namibia - stoked; adarq i'll try to get a pic of a cheetah for you). then i'll have four weeks of relative normalcy before heading home for the holidays.

focus will shift to losing as little fitness as possible. if i can get to 50km in any given week, bully. if not i won't beat myself up. one other thought, because i won't be able to work out 5-6 times per week, is to crank the intensity on the days i can run. so shorter, harder, more rest.

thoughts?

cool about the indian race. india's a hot country with a billion-plus people in it, stands to reason there would be a lot of naturally talented runners there. will be interesting to see what happens as they start investing in athletics.

i hope he can live up to his gifts. would be fun to watch.

dumb point of conversation: how do you define "generational" talent? generations are usually taken to be 20 years. so the most talented/greatest player in a 20 year stretch. right now that'd obviously be lebron, but would you call giannis a "generational" talent? he's unreal, every bit as much a physical freak as lebron just blossoming later. anyone else in the NBA in that tier? people talked about anthony davis and KAT that way but i don't think so.

curry isn't generational, he's sui generis.

after i started running decided to drop the hammer at the 4 km mark. hit 3:27 per mapmyrun. never tested 1000m before but i was shooting for 3:30 and hit it so go me. en route hit 800 in ~2:47. walked 100m and then gradully picked it back up to normal pace.

he is stupefying. like giannis, lebron-level physical talent.

i used to follow college basketball religiously but i've fallen off in recent years. my question is how the hell is duke ranked 4th? didn't they have like 3 of the top 5 recruits this year?

EDIT: yes, they do: 1, 2, and 5. also the #15 and #33 recruits. zion isn't even the top-rated recruit ON DUKE.

bummer. moving and gentle stretching is probably the way to go.

mapmyrun measures pace continuously and works on laptop and phone. i haven't used it to program workouts since i got a garmin but iirc the phone app does that as well. adarq uses strava.

as with many things, the basic version of mapmyrun and strava have decent but limited functionality (although it sounds like more than samsung fitness app), and if you pay you get more bells and whistles. for example i get 1 km splits in addition to the timeline of my pace*, but if i paid for an mvp membership i could get 100m and 500m splits. mapmyrun syncs automatically with my garmin, as would strava if i used that.

*and elevation, although the garmin is pretty inaccurate on that.

well that's a little more exciting than what jalen rose calls "hoooold me back" fights.

nothing will top the malice at the palace. i was watching that game live, on the shitty little TV we had in the house i shared senior year of college. unforgettable.
