have you ever done anything like MR tuck jumps/pogos/depth drops for improving your force absorption?

I used to do 2 strenght days and then 1 jump/depth drops day and my vert went up and it was according to my strenght level but the 2" diference between my cmj and running was still there and then I lost some strenght lol and my vert went down.

ya well, that gap might increase a little, but it'll be nowhere near a "naturally reactive jumper's" gap.. i mean we have people on here with 10+" gaps between SVJ/RVJ, so, if you got 2-4" more inches of gap between SVJ/RVJ you'd be maxed out there.. it's doable with adding more reactive work, not only drops etc, but things like tuck jumps, pogos, low box dj's, sprints, etc.. the idea is to get the reactive work in with a higher frequency than you normally would, so, each training session you do (say you do 4 a week) would have reactive work in it.. this will help you achieve & maintain more "bounce" (reactive ability).

The funny thing is that 2 months later, after a night of alcohol (to clean my body and spirit) and only 4 hours of sleep, I went to the court and I was explosive as never before. I hitted my PRs and maybe 0.5-1" higher.

that is odd........ heh!

could have been some dehydration, not sure.. you weren't training leading up to that right, in those 2 months? if you weren't training, then that is odd.. if you were, then it makes more sense.

peace

bw = 153
soreness = none
aches/injuries = back a little, left knee a bit(still bugging from that 225 @ 4 x 15 session on squat, F that shit)
fatigue = low

workout #1: jumps + lifting
- jumps started out shitty, felt weak, focused though and got up better, still a bad session today, what can i expect though, havn't been jumping max in the last 5 days or so and bad sleep today (8am to 2pm).. whatever, will jump again max on thurs..
- hit 30" on RL plant from 2 step (which is good)
- hit 33" on LR plant from full runup (not great but i did hit it like 10 times, so at least happy with that.. took like 10-15 jumps just to get to 33 then i was hitting it more often.. thursday will probably be better, might caff up again dno.
- OH YA, my glute cramped/strained early on in the jump session.. might have had a little to do with it.. glute cramp is a good sign though.

- PIN 9 SQUAT (PARALLEL OR BELOW, dno): 205 x 3 (actually tough, but kept it light cause of my glute)
- pullups: mostly neutral grip, one set chinup:  5, 10, 10, 10, cup(10), 8, 8

workout #2:
- glute bridges, 1s pause at top: 4 x 100
- CURRENTLY DOING: calf raises: going for 10 sets of 50, glutes are dying hah

peace!

Damn nice on the video!
It's actually so good that it looks more like a bad pro work than like a great amateur one.
^^^
That's somehow a great compliment! :D

haha thanks!

if i had a team helping me, like, telling them the kind of shot i wanted etc, it would have come out alot better.. seems to be my recurring problem, shooting from too far away.. i need to go with my gut on how far to put the cam, THEN move in 10-20 feet closer hah..

i want to make some really weird/insane vids, it's kind of hard going out there and shooting that kind of thing by yourself, it feels a bit nutty hehe!@$!@ finally manned up though and got one of these videos done, that i have in my 'todo list'.. i have so much more, have to keep manning up and make some cool stuff.

it seems most of the stuff will be a bit eery/sadistic/creepy, dno why.. i'm kind of taking stuff i dream about, and put it on vid.. i mean if i could get good at doing that, i'd be very happy.. !!!!!

peace man

workout: dunk session, caff'd up hardcore!
- drove 45 minutes to a court that should be open until 11pm based on the website (FAU outside courts), got there at 9:50, lights were already off.. fml

Yo I HATE it when that shit happens! You heard of Kevin Billerman? He coached FAU men's bball from 1995-1999. He now coaches a hs team in NC

nope never heard of him.. ya i ended up going to bed at 8:30am cause of those stupid shits not keeping the lights on.

And caffeine??

Anyways, nice vid man. You build an atmosphere.

Is there any video surveillance in that parking building? Just wondered what the manager might think seeing you crazying it at night,

haha nah i checked, nothing out in the open anyway, no cams.. which is odd because there is a bank right next to it, although it's 2 stories high, i'm 4 stories up... no cams though from what i've seen, eventually there will be once an incident happens, reactive vs proactive.

it's safe up there though, i like it on parking garages, cool scenery too for a vid like that.. it's almost doom-like.

pc!

Yeah its very futuristic. Can almost imagine a post apocalyptic scenario.

haha cool! ya i seem to go after that vibe, i guess i'm drawn to it somehow.. i really like post-apocalyptic scenery in movies etc.. dno why.

pc!

A.P. Day 8:

- Warmup: Light jog, sprint drills.
- SPRINT WARMUP: 2x15 yard sprints.

- DOUBLE-LEG BOUND: 5 x 5 bounds
- MR tuck jumps: 4 x 10
- MR pogos: 4 x 5

- SQUAT: 3 x 5 @ 190 lbs.
- GHR: 3x5
- CALF RAISE: 4 x 10 w/ 135 lbs.

- Stretch. (and crazy huge post workout shake because I got braces and eating hurts like hell. But I still ate later in the night anyway... cause I'm manly like that)

Hamstrings feeling all better. GHR actually felt pretty good. I've found 5 reps is usually my AF, can't get any more.

I think I'll be adding short box jumps for speed daily (or as often as possible) to my routine. It was suggested by one of my coaches, but of course I need to start light. "Athletes don't hurt themselves doing too much. They hurt themselves doing too much too fast" -Erik Bates, my head coach. (not the one who suggested box jumps)

Squats felt pretty awesome. I'm going slightly below parallel every time. I just don't feel comfortable going absurdly deep on them. Last year I could barely manage getting to parallel, now it's my comfort zone.

nice!! good workout today..

man i hated braces, so much.. hell

Sup everyone, my name is Martin (some friends call me guga). Ive been surfing the forum for over a month reading the journals and the funny theards (sexy pics, off topic and some of the hilarious crap that adarqui posts) but I was too lazy and too weak to register ( I wanted to increase my numbers a little bit first lol). Why I train, because my dream has always been being able to dunk hahaha.

welcome man!!!

So I guess that Im gonna add my stats and training background here and also on a journal.

Current stats.

Age: 26 (fuk)
Height: 5'11
BW: 150-152lbs
Squat (oct-2-2010): did 85kg x 6 reps (190lbs) (left 2, maybe 3 on the tank) so I guess my max is around 105kg (230lbs.. yeah it sucks badly).
Current VJ/CMJ: 24"
Current 2 leg running VJ: 26"

PRs
Squat around the same number maybe 5kg+
VJ: 26"
2 leg running VJ: 28" (crappy explosiveness even when at that time I was feeling smooth on my jumps)

well, you're not too far off your pr's, so make a good push & stay consistent, improving your strength / getting in max jumps, you'll get past those in no time.

Training background.

Ive been training (if you can call that training) for 5 years. Yes, only 1.5xbw crappy. Used to do only ATG Squats (I mean going downnnnn, not breaking parallel). At the beginning I was making quick gains, but at a certain poin, the lack of quality food (im skinny) didnt let me improve anymore, in short resume I was getting strong, then loosing weight (muscle mass ofc). so I got stuck.

At the beginning of 2010 I stopped lifting since I lost my motivation and I didnt lift for 4-5 months, then I bitch slapped me to stop being a pussy and started to lift again now taking more notice about my diet and adding supplements since a was lacking on proteins (using whey now). Still not as motivated as before but lifting. Now Im squatting parallel since I think it helps more with the force absorption, that is something that I always lacked when I was jumping (I just can jump at my max tacking 2-3 relaxed steps, not from a run).

have you ever done anything like MR tuck jumps/pogos/depth drops for improving your force absorption?

Since there isnt a single decent gym at my city I bought my own stuff to train at home (I havent found a gym with a squat rack) and I only have pins so I cant squat till failure.

I rarely train my upper body, well I do pull ups and push ups two times a week, sometimes some tricep/bicep.

I guess is too much shit for an intro.

it's alright man just look forward, forget the past.. btw, still improve strength on upper, even if it's just weighted pushups/dips/chins/pullups, it helps.

peace man

Great atmosphere in that video. The clouds and music and your stance go really well together, good shit.

My only problem is the implications of there being 6 Andrew Darquis. The world can only support so much bumness.

haha

i wish i wouldnt have messed up the close up footage, that shit woulda looked evil.

Unfortunately, I only have an audio and still pics...but in order to provide "proof" that I'm actually the one in the vid, I've included a "review" http://www.cvnc.org/reviews/2004/may/RSOFuture.html from the classical voice of nc...I'm mentioned briefly in the 3rd to last paragraph; they misspell my name as Sreeniker Ram instead of Sreeniket Ram, lol...

It was back in 2004, when I was 16 and I still played bball, could dunk a tennis ball, and wasn't on anti-depressants lol...

dayum :)
